Elias is such an hilarious character. The actor who played him did such a good job at being socially awkward like with the avoiding eye contact and the way he speaks it’s just brilliant
The Lip balm scene with Jay is a reference to Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs". Also, the blonde lady playing Dante's wife is actually Kevin Smith's wife in real life. Her name is Jennifer Schwalbach.
I saw this in theaters when it came out and it was one of the wildest, greatest, funniest theatrical experiences I've had. Movies like this are why we should go to the theaters
Movies like this is why we should get rid of political correctness and censorship😂. Bring back the good old days where people wasn't so damn soft and could take a joke.
This movie is a LOT better when you've seen all the other movies in between Clerks and Clerks II in context. You guys should probably do those, from Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back specifically. Then you'd have all the context needed for most of the jokes in this movie.
This came out when MySpace was huge & Kevin Smith said anyone who put the MySpace page & his page in their top 8 would get a special thanks in the credits in this movie, Hubby and I both did it and got ours of course. We went & saw it opening night at the theater. We are going on a Jay and Silent Bob cruise in February, can’t wait!!
Randal's speech in the jail always makes me teary eyed. Jeff Anderson the actor who plays Randal had no intentions of being an actor and had to be convinced to do Clerks. Then he had to be convinced to make Clerks 2 for fear of ruining what so many people love. But man he is such an incredible actor in this and Clerks 3!
There are lots of reasons he didn't want to do the sequel and he now lives somewhere deep in the mountains. Jeff has appeared on Smith's podcast a couple times and talked at great length about his experience in the view askew universe.
Wanda Sykes & Earthquake was too funny in their scene baby you can't taste racism😂😂 & I saw this one before the first movie I like this one better I hope y'all do the third movie.
There’s only one return okay? It ain’t of the king it’s of the Jedi! My favorite line throughout the entire movie. Clerks II is a good sequel that delivers a lot of laughs and has a lot of heart.
The movie that inspired the donkey scene is legendary among 70’s and 80’s kids called Bachelor Party. It has a young Tom Hanks getting into all sorts of debauchery and is super funny if you want to see a classic 😄
I am so glad y’all are continuing this franchise. I wish, though, that you would go back and watch Dogma. I know that might be a lot to ask. Thanks for watching Clerks 2.
It's amazing how Dante refused to grow but Randall was content with his life in the original, now Dante is trying to find something new and Randall is clinging to the past. The first movie is the better film to me, but this perfectly feels like natural progression to me and feels very natural.
The original interconnected movie univey. Predating the MCU. Clerks Mallrats Chasing Amy Dogma Jay and Silent Bob strike back Clerks 2 Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Clerks 3.
I was a little young when the first clerks came out. It’s good, but I saw this one in theaters when it came out. One of the few successful comedy sequels. Pillow pants explanation nobody could stop laughing
@Dmoney8720 Not even close to a few of Comedy Sequels, there are many: Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey Scream 2 City Slickers 2: Legend of Curly's Gold Home Alone 2 American Pie 2 Gremlins 2 Weekend at Bernie's 2
It had me seething with anger. Because Randal was and still is, completely full of shit. To this day I still don't get why people like that scene because he was still objectively and completely wrong. And very blatantly obviously so. I mean anyone who has seen it, knows that literally nothing he said was correct. Just about a million other things happened in that trilogy, and you have to be brain-dead, or again, just never even having even remotely SEEN LOTR to have missed all that or pretend it wasn't there. Literally less than 3% of the movie was what he said it was. Unless the joke is that Randall is every bad-faith internet argument ever made from a dumbass troll and the joke is supposed to be that he's clearly in the wrong and acting arrogant anyway, than I still to this day, fail to see what the real joke in that scene was supposed to be.
Hey dudes. Found you guys thanks to the Clerks 1, Mallrats and now Clerks 2 reaction. So thrilled you loved this and the other 2 movies. Welcome to the Kevin Smith Fandom! BTW guys, you GOT to check out 1998's Dogma especially. SOOOOOO worth it. Also Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as well!!!
I come back every now and then to remind myself this is my most favorite movie. To have reactors I've been watching for awhile now watch this was my best week. Time flies by so fast.
This movie is a huge credit to Kevin Smith`s writing. He can throw you through emotions faster than any other writer/director I`ve ever seen. I suggest you guys watching ALL of his films. If you haven`t done Dogma, that one would be super fun to see your reaction. Also, you should totally do Silence Of The Lambs again as a reaction. It would be fun to see the difference in your reactions between "seen it once' and ' never seen it'.
I saw this in the theaters when I came out and it was a non stop laugh fest. The "would you f**k me" scene, as soon as the music played and he put on the chap stick, I got the reference and all but 1 of my friends laughed. When they showed the continuation "tucked scene" I LOL'd so loud in the theater and the same friend was like "why would they show that" and it made it even funnier. I love this movie.
Kevin Smith has said that filming got interrupted several times by people showing up thinking it was a legitimate restaurant. They were staying at the motel next door (which can be seen in the background of several shots) and Kevin would go back to his room at night and work on editing the day's shots.
when i first saw this movie i was and still am truly embarrassed at how long it took me to figure out the chick wasn't coming...but i love how randal just kinda shrugs and goes "fudge it...why not watch anyways"
Idk how people didnt think this movie was absolutely hilarious when it came out, I remember seeing this for the first time my first year of college and had so much laughs. I honestly didn't think a movie could get even funnier with time lol 😂😂 such a classic.
When I was at work earlier today I was randomly thinking about the Helen Keller / Anne Frank scene. Then you posted this like a half hour after I got home. You guys never let me down. Hope you watch Clerks 3 soon too! Its so good!
There's a lot of missed inside jokes and references when it comes to Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse. Because of this, to truly get the best understanding of each of his movies in order in which they were made. This really becomes apparent in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and any movie afterwards. There's references to Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back scattered all throughout. For anyone watching these out of order if you watch any of the movies a second time or more after watching the others, there's a bunch of parts that make a lot more sense. Also, for anyone not knowing Dante's Fiance is Kevin Smith's Wife.
Man, that late 80's Olds Cutlass really brings back the memories of living in the Northeast (I grew up in Vermont). I had me a 92 Dodge Dynasty, those old K-cars were just iconic
I hope you do Clerks 3 soon! Elias steals it for me. He is such a great character. Jersey proud, I grew up by QuickStop, so this is just home to me lol.
Man. I've been *waiting* for one of my reactors I follow to do this. Not many have done it for some reason. They always just do Clerks I. I just realized something though. The ending is a little like the lesson in The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy talks about if she ever goes looking for her heart's desire again, she won't look any further than her own backyard..." And the whole movie starts with black and white, goes to colour, and then ends with black and white.
check out part 3.. i loved two but went into the third not thinking much.. I absolutely loved it and very relatable .. mixed in with the usual humor had some serious moments that made it more dramatic than comedy of the first two. love you guys. much love from toronto.
I still quote this movie. "You're as blind as Anne Frank..." Kills me!! And the whole Pillowpants thing is iconic! Did you guys watch Jay and Silent Bob strike back yet? Def must see!! Great job as always guys!
I saw this in theatres when it came out (twice) & the roars of laughter and people crying from laughter continues to be one of my fondest memories. I could do without the whole Kinky Kelly side quest lol but the rest of this is gold!!
This'll sound bad, but this was my favorite movie as a kid. My parents were very uptight and religious, but my older brother had a secret dvd collection, filled to the brim with Kevin Smith movies. I thought Clerks was funny but Clerks 2 was the one I rewatched over and over. I thought it was so funny, and as I got older (and understood more of the jokes) it just got better for me.
While I don't think Clerks 2 has quite the same spirit as the first, it's still so good. It's awesome to see Dante and Randall dealing with the next step in mediocrity and working their way out of it.
I'm glad you guys are still doing these movies, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was my brother and mine's favourite movie growing up. Can't wait to see your reaction to it.
I finally watched the third one just a couple weeks ago...I was grinning like a little kid thru the whole thing. Hope you finish the trilogy! Dogma 's my favorite though.
They both have came a' very long way & grown up quite a bit (kinda, lol) since 'Clerks' (Well, I guess I could say all 4 have, bc even Jay & Silent Bob have grown up a lot too & some of their actions the past 2 films proves it. Without them loaning them the money, Dante & Randall never reopen the store. But anyways, I digress..) And Dante & Randall both continue that trajectory going forwars.. You guys definitely need to watch 'Clerks 3' like asap now..lol. ❤✌🏻
Love this movie. Always makes laugh out loud. Well done for reviewing this movie. Not many on here got the balls to cover movies like this. Fear and loathing next please.
My favorite part of this movie is the jail scene. When Dante and Randal confront each other and realize what they need to do to preserve their friendship.
My favourite go to feel good film. I understand that a lot of people hate Kevin Smith, but people need to realize not all films are made for their sensibilities, and this film has it's audience. Kevin Smith is a consumate storyteller and he tells a tale of how they rented a motel near the restaurant while filming Clerks 2. Jay (Jason Mewes) and Rosario Dawson stayed the duration of filming, and one day Jay had Rosario's nude scenes from "Alexander" playing on repeat. Apparently Dawson was incredibly good natured about the entire thing, and laughed when Jay pointed to her the plainly obvious nudity. Also, Jay was in the worst of heroin addiction during filming, and the story of crashing his car is based on his own experience. It was that incident that got him sober. Kevin Smith took Jay in and helped him stay clean. Whatever you think of his films, Kevin Smith is a great human and an amazing friend.
The horror music sting when Elias starts talking about the troll and Randall’s face drops is so good.
Kills me every time
Half of it was from the opening of The Shining
“Sure”
He delivered a one-word line with such abject horror.
the montage of dante driving around while smashing pumpkins “1979” playing is absolutely top tier kevin smith directing.
She is also one of the girls that stole the diamonds in Jay and Silent strike back.
And the little chubby girl waving from the window while Dante was stopped at the traffic lights was their daughter, Harley Quinn Smith.
Never knew that's his wife.
"Your chicks ARE your left and right" is one of my favorite lines! Randal is such the best character!

Like a pair of Chinese Fingercuffs !!
Fingercuffs!! The new (possible) name for a Netflix special! 😂

Reminds me of “Do the Right Thing,” the reactions to Giancarlo Esposito asking if they want to sign a petition to boycott Sal’s Pizza.
