Not gonna lie, in Rugby, lack of helmet made people tackle safer.
100%. Rugby tackles aren't nearly as chaotic as football tackles.
Ironically, polycarbonate helmets and padding make the game more dangerous. They absorb a lot of energy, but they also allow for a game speed/collisions that wouldn't be possible otherwise

Helmets while doing a great job of protecting the skull have not done great for guys brains. By massively increasing the contact radius for heads they’ve created many more plays involving contact to the head and moving the brain

Honestly football would a lot safer if they didn’t have the helmets. The helmet gives a false sense of security so guys get lazy and use poor tackling techniques which get their heads in the absolute worst spots. Ironically if the helmet was gone concussions would drop. Look at rugby league and rugby union and even Aussie rules football. All of which are explosive collision sports like gridiron, none of which have use helmets and all have comparable concussion rates to the NFL, which sounds like it contradicts my point until you realise the top tackler in the national rugby league makes 1000-1200 tackle a season and will more than likely be tackled 100-150 times. Obviously there’s many factors at play in any sport. But being in a helmet is like being in a car. The sense of security you have leads to more reckless or aggressive traits than if you were on a bike or in footballs case not wearing a helmet. Plus it would eliminate a lot of blindsided shots.

So on one hand you have player safety, rules made to protect QBs or defenseless recievers, cte, and so on and on the other hand you have players not wearing the right size helmet, no mouth guard, recievers with no knee pads or thigh pads in thier pants and so on. It is a dangerous sport, and a player can have his career end In a single play or worse, but do what you can to protect yourself, wear the pads, wear a mouth piece, and I'm no pro athlete by any means, but I do wear many helmets, motorcycle, snowmobile, snowboard, to name a few, and anytime you buy a helmet or get fitted for one they tell you "you want it snug and comfortable, but never loose, the tighter the better without hurting or being uncomfortable" so your head isn't bouncing around in there and if it's too loose when something does happen it can injure your neck. Aj calls it how it is though, he is great, one video of McAfee I watched last week was when stephon diggs told the pats fans "you, you, you , have a nice day" haha and pat said something about language and kids and AJ said "your watching grown men give each other brain damage, does language really matter" he knew what he signed up for in football, in college and NFL, and I'm sure if asked he wouldn't trade it for the world.
