    Honestly people hated Walker on his arrival to the universe... Maybe that was the point.. But I felt bad right away. The pressure, and the expectations for being the next Steve shouldn't be placed on anyone.
    Also loved the return of Zemo. He's honestly still in my top 3 MCU antagonists. More like anti hero now though. So when i saw him returning I just got a huge smile in that episode. I honestly never considered Zemo a true villain like Red Skull, Ronan, Thanos. I could never blame him for doing what he did in Civil War.

    The interactions of the main characters is definitely the highlight of this show. The feeling that the Flag Smasher antagonists are a little under-cooked is a pretty common one. This production got hit hard by the Covid shutdown and needed reshoots and reworking of the plot (rumors are that it originally included a bioweapon subplot that they understandably didn't want to pursue during Covid lockdowns)... In any event, the show needed enough reworking that it was shifted from being the first Disney+ release to following after WandaVision instead.

    The comment about maybe bucky should have been the next Captain America... I think that would have been a disastrous PR event. Remember that the world thought that Bucky assassinated the King of Wakanda, and with that, they must have learned about his history as an assassin for Hydra. Captain America, after all, was used as a symbol in WWII for selling War Bonds, before he became an actual hero. That's how the world sees Captain America. The government saw John Walker as the next Cap, not because he was super, but because he could be a symbol for patriotism, like Cap was (of course both of them were more complex than that, but we are talking about appearances). Bucky would not make a good patriotic symbol.

    It wasn't just The Blip that caused Sam's financial problems. He was also a wanted criminal and on the run from the end of Civil War right up until he blipped, so I doubt he was getting paid during that time.
    As for giving Bucky the shield, based on all the guilt he's carrying at the start of this series, I doubt he would've accepted the shield even if it was offered to him.

    • @TheIcemanthomas
      @TheIcemanthomas Год назад +3

      It’s not that either. Superhero’s just don’t get paid for what they do in general. It’s not technically an occupation. Even before civil war, Steve couldn’t afford to live in Brooklyn. The last job sam would’ve had was before winter soldier when he was still in the military.

    • @carlgibson285
      @carlgibson285 Год назад +1

      @@TheIcemanthomas that's true, but we do know for a fact that Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye were all working for SHIELD, at least until the end of Winter Soldier, so it's fair to assume they got paid just like other SHIELD agents until SHIELD was disbanded.
      There was also a line in one of the movies (maybe Age Of Ultron, but I can't be certain because I'm old and my memory isn't great lol) where Tony Stark said "he (Captain America)'s in charge, I just pay for everything." While Tony could've just been referring to paying for Avengers Tower, Quinjets and other tech, it could also be a subtle reference to the comics where Tony Stark does indeed pay the Avengers a wage, although even if this was the case, Tony would've stopped paying them once they went rogue in Civil War.

    I don't know if anyone else pointed this out but Steve choosing Falcon is a callback to the first Captain America movie. The scientist who invented the super serum chose Steve because he was "not a good soldier but a good man".

    • @laura_gieger
      @laura_gieger 2 месяца назад

      Well…. Bucky certainly is a good soldier but he also is a good man. None of the things he did to hurt or kill people were choices he made willingly. and to come back from multiple *decades* worth of brainwashing and manipulation the way he did is in itself an achievement. despite all that Hydra did to erase his mind, they never managed to fully delete Bucky. and to recover from all of that and still be a person who feels pain and guilt and remorse for those actions, I‘d say that also makes Bucky a good man. So I think it‘s both for him.
      though I do get what you were saying and in terms of why Steve chose Sam you‘re spot on. Sam certainly is a good man beyond and above most other people

    This show was everything to me, John Walker's character was so interesting to follow and see how he developed and i don't think i noticed just how self absorbed he is until later on, he's just such a well written character that i kind of ignored things and related to his journey of trying to live up to someone's legacy and do the right thing even though it's the wrong one, and you can't really define the difference anymore and i also thoroughly enjoyed Sam and Bucky's relationships and other relationship as well, this is such a captivating show, and it was easy to follow and fun to watch and it made me cry and feel all the feelings and seeing your reaction just gave me a whole new outlook on it, and I can't wait for more.

    I've been very much looking forward to you getting to this show. Especially with how much you favor the more serious stories in the MCU. This one hits hard, with Steve's two best friends struggling with their grief over his moving on with life, and not having him there anymore. It really breaks my heart to see how hard it is hitting the two of them, but it makes complete sense. And while they may have been on okay terms with one another, they were never really... friends, themselves, but now... they are both reminders of Steve, and some of the last parts of him left for them. I get why Sam didn't take up the shield at first. I really do. It isn't a simple thing for a black man to take up that shield. Also, it wasn't Hydra that experimented on Isaiah. It was the US government who experimented on him and the others in his group. This show is really hitting the point that the governments aren't necessarily trustworthy in this world. We've already seen that in the MCU, but this one makes it a core part of the narrative. Either way, they don't get into it in the show, but in the comics, the others in his group - the ones that he was imprisoned for going to rescue - were all physically deformed by the experiments. Isaiah was the only one who still looked normal.
    But, hey, on a more humorous note, yes, even at the time, people latched onto Zemo's dancing... it really was spectacular. And, one of the jokes going around my group of friends was building on the "That's America's ass" joke from Endgame... where Steve was America's Ass, while John Walker is just America's asshole. You really do start seeing it pretty early on, especially with how condescendingly he wants Steve's "wingman" to lend him legitimacy. Not spoiling anything, but I can't wait for you to continue with your journey through this series any more than you can. I still just remember having to wait a week for each new episode back when it came out...

    Glad to see so much enjoyment from you for this series. There are lots of things going on in this story, and I hope the second half holds your interest just as much.
    The small spheres that you saw Bucky picking up at the end of episode 3 are called Kimoyo beads. They're a special kind of vibranium-based technology created and widely-used in Wakanda. Ayo left them there on purpose, as a warning to Bucky that she was there, and sure enough he noticed.
    Isaiah Bradley's story is both fascinating and horrifically tragic. When you're done watching the show, if others don't fill you in on Isaiah's background, I'll be happy to. I'm glad that Marvel decided to include it here -- it fits very well, and not just because he's a Super Soldier. As other reactors have noted, in a series that explores the idea of finding a new Captain America, it makes sense to take a long hard look at what America is, and think about what it ought to be in the future.

    The high quality of the Marvel streaming shows during COVID is what derailed the MCU's movie plans. Most people justifiably point to movies being postponed during lockdown, but Marvel Studios through all of their energy and money into making really great high quality streaming shows and it turned the public's expectation from having to dish out money to go see more Marvel movies to being able to watch them at their leisure at home for less. Marvel started going that direction creatively, but The Mouse wanted the movie phases to continue and the public didn't. Marvel was riding the high of the Infinity Saga and knew it was only a matter of time before fatigue set in, but Disney wanted the money they assumed was still there in the movies. It was a misstep on Disney's part.

    It definitely would not make sense to give a mentally unstable person with the reputation of being an international terrorist and assassin the power to represent the entire country. I never understood people saying Bucky should I’ve gotten the shield. Lol. I know buck has the powers and was close to Steve. But Sam has all of Steve’s best qualities that made him a perfect cap. Bucky doesn’t have those qualities. Which is why Steve chose Sam. San is a pure soul, a good man, which is the most important quality for the role.

    I wonder what it'd look like for many of the other main people coming back from the Blip? Bucky and T'Challa and Wanda reappearing in an empty field/glade... Or the Pyms.. "Where the hell is the van!?" And Strange and Spidey on Titan? "Where's Mr. Stark??" And, how would they leave - oh yeah! Portals!
    Now I'm wondering (this is gonna get dark)... What if the chair Monica was sitting in when she Bliipped out, was moved? Or if someone else was sitting there? How about the helicopter pilot in Infinity War's post-credit scene? Okay, I'll stop there. Let's just call it Comic Book Logic and be done with it. :)

    Re: a 10PM date, I'm pulling the "ASK ME ABOUT BEING A MANHATTAN NATIVE" card, because God forbid I don't endlessly talk about living in and being from New York City (try growing up in the place approximately 50% of all media is set in and NOT being a bit braggadocious about it). Bucky is supposed to be in NYC in that scene (it obviously is really Atlanta, for many reasons, like the vibe being all wrong, and alleys like the one he and Yori duck into not really being something that exists in Manhattan, despite what movies and TV would have everyone believe), and here in NYC, 10PM is not a late date time, really. 24-hour city, and whatnot. The pattern hews a bit closer to Southern Europe than the rest of the US and Canada. Dinner is later, going out is later, and so on. I honestly find dinner prior to 8PM bizarre, for instance. I'm certainly no Lothario, but, from my experience, I definitely wouldn't find a 10PM date out-of-place, and I know I've been on two or three, including one that ended with my date high-fiving me because she and I had stayed out long enough to see the "New York Times" trucks making their morning deliveries.
    For my own part, I really like this series. It feels like a natural continuation of the vibe of "The Winter Soldier" and "Civil War," and those are two of the best MCU films. And I'm with you, the chemistry between Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan is ridiculous. They need to put these two together as-much-as-possible.

    Bucky would have been the absolutely worst person to receive the shield. Let's forget that the new face of Captain America would be the face of a man all of America saw got on a murder rampage. Let's focus on the fact that he is a ticking time-bomb. We've seen some random yahoo with a book turn him into a personal puppet; who's to say what else is in his head? Also, I lied, let's not forget that he _went on a murder rampage._ If I was living in this world and I saw that man get the shield, I'd start protesting, picketing, and packing my bags because America would be even more screwed than it already is from all the _other_ "enhanced".
    Bucky doesn't deserve the shield. Maybe it's sad, but it's certainly true. Much of it isn't Bucky's fault, but that isn't relevant. It's not a weapon's fault it unalives people, but it's still a weapon, and the moment you forget that, the moment you treat a weapon as anything else, that's when people pay the price with their lives.
    More philosophically, a black man deserves the shield. Who better to stand up for a country than one of the very people that country grinds under its boots? Who better to stand up for justice, for mercy--for hope--than one of the very people to whom those are regularly denied? Captain America has to more than just a guy with a shield, more than just a super-cop in a spangly outfit--he has to be an icon, a symbol of all that is good with the country, the standard of what we could and should be, even while recognizing that we often fail to live up to that standard. That wouldn't work if there wasn't a standard to live up to, and that isn't something easily provided.

    It was amazing, the amount of hate the new Captain America got from the viewers in the 10 seconds he was introduced in the first episode. He didn't have to do a thing, just the fact that he was replacing Captain America made us instantly hate this guy. I don't condone the hate the actor got, that was completely unwarranted, but even I'll acknowledge I loathed this character as soon as they announced he was the new Captain America. It is amazing how visceral the reaction was
    But that 10 seconds demonstrated exactly why so many people dislike Rey Skywalker in Star Wars or any other instance where a replacement gets intense hate from the fan base. When you take an icon, a character who is beloved, and you replace with a newer version (I don't necessarily mean recastings as those are a mixed bag, but you know what I mean, when the torch is passed to the next generation) without putting in the work to show why this character deserves to be the replacement, it feels disrespectful of that original icon. We all wanted Sam to be the next Captain America, he had earned it. But the government gave the title to someone else who hadn't. It's not that Captain America is being replaced it's his place is being taken by someone who hasn't put in the leg work but expects the title as Captain America
    I know this is a rambling; I'm more talking about how audiences react when beloved characters are replaced in franchises. It's so funny to me that Marvel understood this concept with this one character, capitalizing on it to make us dislike him, but that Lucasfilm did not, and continues not to understand it

      At that moment, it immediately felt like a banner saying "Luke's not all that much of a hero because he failed, but don't you worry, Rey will succeed where he failed." That was the moment where I felt they were trying to replace Luke
