As someone who is keen to get into long form documentary in the future, this is really intriguing man! Keen to see more and glad to see you back on RUclips.
Joshua, this is the most exciting news of 2025! I don't know another doc filmmaker on RUclips who's making these kinds of practical, detailed tutorials on how to build out long-form documentary content in Resolve. I could not be more stoked. I'm currently shooting/editing my own 90-minute documentary in Resolve. Needless to say, I'm insanely excited to see what you share in '25. As it is, my current Resolve project is already heavily influenced by all that I've learned from you (right down to the bin colors). You'd feel right at home working in my project. 😂 Anyway, thanks for everything, mate!
Love this! I struggle with the balance between the actual work and sharing with the community. Trying to be better at this myself. Keep up the great work!
Hey, I don't use to comment on videos here on Yt, but I just wanna say thank you. I found out your Channel 3 days ago, because I was trying to learn about editing. After watching a couple of videos here I learnt a rips of great content and tips, I am going slow with the keyboards shortcuts you gave to us, but it are going very smooth it whats matter. Waiting about more content of you, doesn't matter what you upload on here I beat it will help us a lot. Once again, Thanks mate!
Heck yes mate stoked you had some time off over the holiday period. Love every video and eager to see any and all of the future videos. Wish you an amazing 2025!
Subscribed when you uploaded that video on organising documentary footage in Davinci. Doing my own feature now too so super excited to see what you're doing on this feature. Hoping to shoot in NZ this year too!
Your channel is a great resource and in this "2025 Channel Update" you said you are retiring your tablet and will be using a mouse. I'm very keen to hear why you decided to do that - the other editors who moved to using a tablet swear by it once over the learning curve. All the best.
I'll talk about this in a future video. I do love the pen tablet, but the main reason was ergonomics with the resolve editor keyboard on the desk. With a pen tablet off to one side the width of the arm span was a lot and I hate having the tablet close to me in front of the keyboard. I'm using the Kensington trackball (as a mouse) which also feels great (It's the same experience as moving the tracks balls around on the colour panel)
It's been the biggest mindset shift with the keyboard. I ended up relearning all of the default shortcuts as they are set on the main keyboard which has helped. But yes, lots of simple tweaks could be made in the software to added a bunch more to it. I'm not holding out hope though, it doesn't seem to be on their priority list anytime soon.
I am in my 70's and get inspired by your editing and colouring skills. I made a documentary called Wolf Lands which is on Amazon prime. A personal great acheivement for me. There was literally no budget we only paid for travel costs. Shot on sony camcorders. Edited primarily in Edius with a short scenes edited with Resolve. Subtitled in Resolve. Music was studio produced by one of the music engineers who mix for the band U2. They graciously did it for a nominal sum. Hundreds of DVD's of it have been shipped also. Who would have thought there was still a market for them. Second film is in the works with some interviews already done, shot this time with BM cams , Ursa G2, 6k pro and 4k pocket. ( I decided the production levels had to rise ) probably not reaching the levels of what you and your crew can do. Been trying to hone my skills in grading and getting " that look " so been watching all of your videos. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to what you may put out on here. All the best from the UK.
I’ve literally been emailing this guy and his business partner about the LUTS and Power grades on his site and it’s a literal scam. The nuts don’t work and they don’t answer emails and charge you to purchase it.
Hey sorry to hear the frustration. My bad man, I didn't reply to your emails that came through because I thought it was scam :-) - I get a lot of those everyday as I don't actually sell anything online - If you are referring to my Gumroad site, I simply have a few resources on there that you can download completely for free of charge, so there is no scam. The powergrades are a DPX file which populates your node tree. They aren't LUTs so they won't work the same way. All the best from NZ.
Just finishing a feature documentary about Ukraine. Your tutorials have been key in keeping it organized and getting it close to the finish line. Really curious to hear about your issues with the Cloud. Tried it for a remote assistant and it was a nightmare.
Sounds awesome - Yeah the cloud sucked big time for us. I think in theory it has everything going for it except the lag it introduces into the project. IMO we spend so much time optimising our workflows and systems to remove any minor bottle necks, and for the cloud to make your machine feel sluggish is a deal breaker. For this project we ended up sharing around DRT files (Timelines) and importing them from remote editor.
@@JoshuaKirkNZ Had exactly the same experience and did the same solution. Hopefully they can make this better in future versions. If so, it would be a game changer.
You're one of my favorite people. Cheers to the new year - I look forward to everything in the works.
Cheers Chadwick!
Totally agree, wonderful work.
Actually your channel is great as well, more in-depth then many out there.
love your channel man. We organize our projects based on one of your video. Cant than you enough for walking through your setup! Keep killin man!
Thanks mate!
Super jazzed! No one else on RUclips dives into the hard stuff like you do - making it much easier for the rest of us. Thanks!

yes !! much needed content, something finaly for documentary film makers
There's been a gap on RUclips in this space I think so hopefully something I can add to.
Love the editors keyboard :) love to hear your thoughts :). Boy do I wish we would customize some of its custom keys.

Awesome, can't wait to follow along from Idaho!
😊
Hope to see more colour grading tutorials !! Bangers
Thanks!
Keep going!
So Good bro! Crush it in 2025

I bet they won’t answer this comment and address the issue
