Oof, that near miss with the hot oil looks terrifying! Looking forwards to finding out what you eventually decided to do

It wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. But.... yeah :P The final solution is a mix of "Thanks, I hate it!" and "Wait, that worked?"

So, the lesson appears to be 'However big you THINK the container needs to be, double it.'

Dude your Bat'leth looks a million times better than most of these wood replicas I have seen all over the net for sale! For one reason above any other... Yours has a truly rounded handle! It isn't practically flat and super skinny, it actually visually represents the time effort and LOVE that you put into its creation! It didn't look good for quite a while there but as you approach the finished product it has really taken shape and started to look very awesome! Kudos from a mega trek fan! 1966-2005 only! If it ain't Gene or Berman it ain't Trek! lol I'm commonly referred to as a purist when it comes to my Trek... I'm very serious about it and I say you did a fabulous job! Now get some proper hand grip wrapping around those handles and sand that thing to a shine and mount that thing on your wall with pride sir cause it's starting to look very honorable! :)

There are places that rent large barrel Smokers and grills that are probably large enough to heat it up to at least 500 degrees. They actually have a trailer hitch on them. May be worth a shot at least for the heat treating.

If it’s a show piece why go through the trouble to quench it ?

I took the job with the understanding that I was going to use it as an experiment. Try and see if I could. And it proved such an interesting technical challenge that I’m glad I did.
