Love this series of discussions and different perspectives from different generations. In terms of iconic gay media, I could introduce you some early English gay films like My Beautiful Laundrette and Maurice etc in the 80s! They are so impactful and influential.
My parents did not even have a television in our house until I was 10 years old and even then we could only watch game shows or black & white reruns. So my gay icon was Uncle Arthur from Bewitched and Hollywood Squares. Yes I was a messed up gay kid. Later in my college years I discovered Jack on Dawson’s Creek. 🥰❤️
I love your podcasts so much! Such a great idea. Btw, the tv spinoff to Love, Simon is called Love, Victor. It’s a great series on Hulu. Definitely worth watching.
My first gay movies were ¨Making Love ¨ a 1982 American drama film directed by Arthur Hiller and starring Kate Jackson, Harry Hamlin and Michael Ontkean. The film tells the story of a married man coming to terms with his homosexuality and the love triangle that develops between him, his wife and another man. Also Quinton Crisp naked civil servant, 1975 movie starring John Hurt, from Aliens Fame. Both wonderful movies for me… 1. A positive movie about the possibilities of gay love… 2. About the hard times we had, and a positive spin of those day’s…
Elton, guys! Give Elton John some credit here. Elton came out (first as bisexual) in 1976 in a cover story in Rolling Stone. The blowback damaged his career for several years. He was the first major pop star to come out -- before the Georges (Michael and Boy). And his work battling HIV/AIDS worldwide is remarkable. David Bowie sometimes presented as gay in character but was pretty clear in later years that he wasn't.
Before there was the Love Simon young love movie, there was A Beautiful Thing (1996). It actually took place in the London projects. Check it out. Very good but I bet you can’t watch it without shedding happy tears.

For me, definitely Lady Gaga. In terms of movies it's so hard to remember what was the first exposure to gay media but I distinctly remember the film V for Vendetta where there was a small lesbian storyline that was so heartbreaking yet beautiful. Amazing film! If you have not seen it yet, please do. Otherwise I remember Milk (2008) and Black Swan (2010).
Great chat guys, thank you Films like Performance (1970) Jarman's Sebastian (1976) were iconic. Prior to the 1967 enactments of the Wolfenden report gay life in the UK was criminal and references were oblique, gays were grotesque comedy characters in films, not forgetting Julian and Sandy on radio, Round the Horne, in the late 50's early 60's. There were certainly gay themed books if you knew where to look! But yes by the 80's there were on screen kisses. There may have been in Fellini's 1969 Satyricon. European cinema was a bit more progressive imo. My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) was quite groundbreaking in the UK even then.
I'm probably about the same age as "the old gays" and I'm surprised they didn't mention Bette Midler as an ally. She was singing in the Continental Baths in New York back in the 1970's and has always been a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ community.

I've heard you use both gay and bi to describe yourself but Ant's comment while you were talking about Boy George made it sound like you longer identify that way. Do you identify as gay, bi or as both? Also Miriam Margolyes would be an amazing podcast guest. She's hillarious and has no filter. And she'd offer an older lesbian perspective.
I love Harry and Louis 💙💚. Those who know know, yet it would be nice for them to come out and make it official. I will always be a Larry regardless of they never do.
Nicholas did say after Red White that he felt guilt about playing gay. As did Andrew Garfield, and Darren Criss. It's not about whether they're good actors. Brad Pitt's a good actor, but he wouldn't be cast in a Black role. It's about letting gay people tell their own stories, just as other minorities do. The other thing is, discrimination is still common. When a str8 actor takes a gay role, it's taking work from an out gay actor who has trouble finding work.
So sorry to be the negative Nacy here, but Nick's really starting to bug me now... He's such a control freak... A real camp "husbandziller!" He constantly makes sure he's talking the loudest in the group, rudely butting in over Ant as well as Frank & Dan too... You can really tell who thinks he's centre of all the attention and controls their relationship with Ant... Not a husband I could put up with. On a lighter non moaning note... Films I remember from my much younger years, here in the U.K. Jeffrey Beautiful thing Torch song trilogy Maurice All must see movies of the past.. I implore anyone to check them out if you can))

My first media contact with being gay were pretty negative and scary, eg the movie starring Henry Fonda based on Alan Drury's ADVISE AND CONSENT, which I also read. The message for me was "DON'T EVER GET CAUGHT! I was 13. Another was Lillian Hellman's THE CHILDREN'S HOUR. And most of the OBVIOUSLY gay celebrities never came out: Paul lynde, Liberace and others. I hated the mvie THE BOYS IN THE BAND. The sitcom BARNEY MILLER comes to mind with a gay positive pair of recurring characters (70s), ALL IN THE FAMILY's 1st episode too. Phil Donahue, who recreated daytime talk show, was the first to have gay people on and talk openly and honestly. He was the first real public friend to us.
Dont know if you have watched the Gwen aruago story but you should it is messed up what happens to her at the end but it is inspirational in that fact he was trans and be to true to who she was she is mtf
With all the Back slapping here , if the old Gays or young Gays are Canadian it's sad to see how limited their exposure to Film & TV ! " Boys in the Band " Cabaret " Bette Midler ,"The Rose" " My Beautiful Launderett" Canadian TV Degassi street , "My Own Private Idaho " ,just to scratch the surface! It is no wonder that I hear Gay Men saying they didn't know they were Gay until long after puberty ? I totally understand if a person or a preforner doesn't Want to be Open about their Sexuality, its a personal choice ( Being Honest Publicly) . I hear so many Men in the USA, where unlike Canada their Rights are Not publicly Country wide enshrined in the Construction & have a huge wave of Anti LGBTQ people . I just think it's Very short sighted to listen to Vloggers who consider themselves to be " Inflluencers and know so little about historical media that was hard fought for , and sit around congratulating themselves with little information !
Thanks for your response! I think what's important to mention is the older gays couldn't come out till later in their lives and even considering that they know and seen a whole load of LGBTQ movies/tv shows. As for my partner and I we learn so so much from the older gays and it's exactly why we created this podcast, for fellow young gays to learn! 🥰
The way that kid corrected his boyfriend about "Love, Simon" coming out 2016 and not 2019 doesn't sit well with me. In fact, his boyfriend was closer as the film came out 2018. He always has this attitude it seems. Throughout the interview, he has these micro-controlling-agression behavior. Just watch this again and watch how he speaks over people, and tries to direct the convo. So annoying.
Can any american tell me like how it is in America.like do society and stright people like gays i wanna know being an non american Or may be I'll move to america some day
You were definitely wrong Nick you shouldn’t have tried to publicly correct your husband like that. Your husband was right of when that movie came out. Doesn’t look good to publicly correct him like that for a RUclips video. You even visibly surprised Anthony when you said that. It was very obvious. But he was very mature in not carrying it on and just staying quiet. I’m sure you heard about it later when you two were alone though lol. Just saying.
Another great video and so interesting. You both always look and dress immaculately too. My guess would be Troy Sivan😊. Take care xxx🤗
Awe thats super kind, thanks for being here!
@ItsJustNick_ I look forward to your next episode! You both speak so well and enthuse others. Always have my support guys. Xx🤗😃
I love Harry and Louis 💙💚. Those who know know, yet it would be nice for them to come out and make it official. I will always be a Larry regardless of they never do.
Tom Daley would be good!
Wed love to get him on!
Jeffrey
Beautiful thing
Torch song trilogy
Maurice
All must see movies of the past.. I implore anyone to check them out if you can))
Yep. He’s over bearing and not reading the room.
The tv show was "Love Victor" ❤
How are gay rights restricted in Australia? Facts please!!
I thought the older guys were my age but it seems I'm older.
We have gays from all generations here ahah!
Definitely the music icons - Mariah, Celine, Cher
Julie Andrews for her role in Victor Victoria. Nicholas Galetzine.
Love Simon (2018) and Call Me By Your Name (2017)
I really liked Beautiful Thing that was made in England.
Fergus Dublin Ireland
Ant,, I luuuuuv your hair like that. Your eyes are stunning! How about you call yourselves The Younger Gays and The Older Gays? So much more nicer then calling the uncles, the old gays. Maybe give it some thought, thats all I ask Fergus ❤
Fergus Dublin Ireland
Hey Guys,
Get Nicholas Gallitzine on the show. God he's Gorgeous and oozes class, from every pore! Plus, I'd say you'd have a Gr8 chance of getting him, if he's in the UK or when he's back🙂😘
Ant is right. Love Simone 2018🤭
one of our first gay movies we watched together
Who is that boy band member 😢I'm dying out of curiosity

Sorry Nick, Ant was right the movie Love Simon came out in 2018!
did you watch it? 😍
@@ItsJustNick_ Yes ! But I had to Google it to find out when it came out and it said 2018! P.S. Love the Old/New gays podcasts!
I have a basic doubt why don't you add old gays name in caption why its always nick and ant i just asked it becoz its old gays and new gays right so it should be with there names too right if im worng ignore it
Usually we do, we will update the description soon! In our titles, we like to use nick and ant so the audeince recognises who it is. Thanks for letting us know
My first media contact with being gay were pretty negative and scary, eg the movie starring Henry Fonda based on Alan Drury's ADVISE AND CONSENT, which I also read.
I dont know nick if you have seen this movie but its is a lbtqa film called the geography club its also i book
Dont know if you have watched the Gwen aruago story but you should it is messed up what happens to her at the end but it is inspirational in that fact he was trans and be to true to who she was she is mtf
Tschaikovsky was my Icon
You guys should watch Derek Jarmans Sebastiane about saint sebastiane who was a Roman Soldier its brilliant !
Happy pride month ❤🎉
It might aswell be pride again!
BBC police show, the Bill ,had a gay cop
omg need to watch this!
Lil ñas came out during pride after old town road blew up. He did not start “out”
Ah yes! I didn't mention this but very true
Always Freddie Mercury ❤
Agree!
Philadelphia Story? Give me a break, it was called Philadelphia and it was 1993 not 1991. Making Love predates many movies released in 1982.
You didn’t mention Lady Gaga. She is a HUGE gay ally.
Nick, you are to cheeky 😷
ahah 😆
#JoeLocke would be a great guest
right?! lets get him on
Elton John
LOVE Elton John!
I also love the movie Rocketman
I love the movieThe philidephia story
Love Simon is really good movie you should try Love Vicktor too
Cyndi Lauper would be great!!!!
❤❤❤❤
The movie Get Real in the 1990's
Hey I have a question how can you tell your parents your gay
Lady gaga for sureeee
David Bowie was probably Bi
The way that kid corrected his boyfriend about "Love, Simon" coming out 2016 and not 2019 doesn't sit well with me. In fact, his boyfriend was closer as the film came out 2018. He always has this attitude it seems. Throughout the interview, he has these micro-controlling-agression behavior. Just watch this again and watch how he speaks over people, and tries to direct the convo. So annoying.
Can any american tell me like how it is in America.like do society and stright people like gays i wanna know being an non american
Or may be I'll move to america some day
You were definitely wrong Nick you shouldn’t have tried to publicly correct your husband like that. If you don’t believe Anthony was right research it on Wikipedia. Only takes a few seconds
Ah. We love the young gays. And they are both very supportive of each other. For reals.
Shut the f up trying to police their conversation and relationship. Get a life
