just so everyone's aware, they're in a nursing room, not a "jail" and this is not their regular enclosure, i've never been to this zoo but with how healthy momma and baby look here I'm going to safely assume they have a nice big green outdoor area, its just unhealthy and unsafe for the newborn to leave the sterile nursing room just yet all humane zoos have nursing areas like this, even well known US zoos like the san diego zoo, so the baby and mother dont get sick, as she gets older they'll start letting her into the normal panda enclosure

Maggiedroid is right, Taipei zoo has a big outdoor area for the pandas, it's just that this nursing room serves as a den for the panda mother and her cub, it's easier for the zoo staff to keep the cub healthy like this
Glouboux it also gets very cold in china, the baby could freeze to death outside the nursing room, the warmth of the nursing room may be why mamma's panting but i doubt it, its her heightened anxiety from taking care of her first baby that's making her pant like this, i've heard that pandas get nervous easily in a situation like this

Glouboux Taipei zoo is in Taiwan, not China though. It is warm in Taiwan, so during the hot season the pandas often stay indoor where there is AC. There isn't much stuff in the nursing room while yuanzai was little. I believe they do so to keep her safe and healthy. Besides a few "inner room" (including 1 outdoor area) not seen by the zoo visitors, there r 3 exhibition rooms, 1 outdoor, 2 indoor (both have natural sunlight.) sharing by the mom, dad, and Yuanzai.
This is not the point. They still on a cold hard ground! We get that they have to be safe but this floor is too rough even for animals or human! Why don't they put them on a carpet or something like that?!
This is ver sweet. This video should be shown to young and older mothers to be better mothers. A good kid is a result of a good loving parent., even animals give love
the light looks annoying but it's necessary because the baby has to be monitored at all times to insure the mother doesn't accidentally smother or injure it....these are very endangered animals after all, the loss of every cub hurts.
