It's hard to believe a man of his talent had to be reassured! The guys said he was very insecure, in that way. The first question he asked after a show or concert was how was it?

So no approval was needed from the guys there :) But what really happened here is that they were rehearsing this song to play it live on stage. Originally Elvis recorded the song with other studio musicians than the one gathered there. They needed to learn the song, but also the essence of how Elvis wanted to perform this song on stage.
