    I would like to point out that activated charcoal is not sentient.
    It cannot distinguish between chemicals that we label as 'good' or 'bad'.
    It simply has a very large and porous surface area that traps larger molecules which color molecules tend to be.

      Activated charcoal? I heard that bamboo activated charcoal is better for air purifying then the others types. do you know if this is true?

    yeah its because of adsorption and not absorption, the surface molecules tends to attract the surrounding molecules in order to balance the unequal tension from the bulk inside.🙂

      After the charcoal has removed as much as you want mix in an equal amount of diatamaceous earth. Mix well for some time. Filtering should be much easier and far more complete.

      For color removal, we suggest using a hardwood or coal based activated carbon powder. For this demonstration, I used our Hardwood Neutral pH powder.

    • @deliciousdude24

      I used powdered and granulated hardwood charcoal. I stirred it into 12oz of a cocktail I was making. After stirring it up for a minute or so and letting it sit for a couple hours, I then strained it through a 4 micron filter (scientific paper). The liquid that came through was still black in color (instead of what it started at which was red) and tastes NOTHING like what it was supposed to. I'm looking to color clarify an alcoholic cocktail. What did I do wrong? How was grape juice so easy to clarify with coffee filters but mine so difficult with scientific filters?@@CharcoalHouse

    Hi.
    I tried to filter some gin that I'd made that was slightly brown using a new water filter that I'd bought. I ran water through the filter first 5 times then tried the gin. However it made the gin much more blackly brown.
    Then I came across this RUclips and bought some charcoal that was designed for spirits. It wasn't the but liquidy though. However it made it black in the test I did. I then used a coffee filter and it didn't work.
    Eventually I tried using more charcoal and it came out clear. So I tried with about 500ml of gin. It seemed to come clear but then suddenly went black and got progressively worse through the coffee filter. What's happening? Coffee filter paper not fine enough? Wrong charcoal? What?

    What to add in charcoal so as it can be active charcoal

    • @CharcoalHouse
      @CharcoalHouse 3 года назад

      We have a separate video on this. However, the short answer is there are two processes to activate charcoal. One is steam activation, and the other is via chemicals. Attempting this at home will likely lead to partial activation, and a subpar carbon. Buying it from a reputable company that can give you exact measurements as it pertains to surface area and purity would be cheaper and you'd be guaranteed a quality product.
