    Anyone else, work for a company that's operating in a new different time zone? If so, how big is your time difference, how have you managed your hours, do you like or hate it, etc?
    Would love to hear your guys' thoughts and perspective. Thank you!

      My main headquarter has a 13 hour difference! It's hard to have meetings with the other teams.. either 5am morning or 8pm evening. I had to set boundaries and limit those meetings to only essential ones.

      I am also EST and company is in PST. Except, I'm a semi-morning person. I wake up at 8:30am and start at 9:30am. My most optimal focus is 10am-12pm.

    I'm a UX Researcher in the Atlanta area. I work remotely for a company in the Midwest so I work 10am - 6pm and I love it. I wake up before 8 and I either go to the gym, watch TV, or just relax before starting work which is nice. I get off at 6pm which isn't too late and a lot of times I stop working at 5:30. A con is that sometimes I have 5pm meetings and 5 is when I start to mentally check out.

    Super cool video. Was waiting for your latest! I just started a new job about 3 weeks ago. The company is based in Northern California and I am here in Atlanta. It’s all pretty flexible as far as schedules go. I’m usually signing off around 5:30/6 EST but freedom to start and break up my day as necessary to accommodate my workflow. My design partners are both on the West and East coast so everyone is pretty understanding! Great video Wesley!

    I am starting a new gig next week where I will be working for a company in the CDT. (I live in EST). 😅 Am just excited and at the same time my mind is blown as to how RUclips can sometimes show you content so freaking relateable. 🤨 Anyway amazing video and thanks for the tips.. 🤗

    Thanks for your insights! I am currently based in middle Russia but have to work for a company based in Lisbon. The 5-hours difference does become an issue sometimes especially when my colleagues would like to schedule the meeting at the end of their day and it’s midnight for me. Gotta say, I am not a fan of these working hours but it’s hard to do anything about it, considering we have to have some overlap with the guys.

  • @AhmetEfeoglu

    I used to work with one hour difference but not anymore. So there was no impact. But having work start at 12.00 does sound like it has its perks like having an extended quality morning just for yourself 😎

    Last year I was living out of the country and worked 2pm-10pm my time to match up with my company in EST (6-hour avg time difference)! It was really interesting but I'm a night owl for sure so I didn't have much problem with it. My "lunch break" was dinner 🤣🤣🤣
    I've since moved back to the US but still not in the same time zone as my company, I'm now in MT and 2 hours away from them in EST, now my work day is 7am-3pm and I'm mostly NOT a fan. But the pro is that I'm off early in the day and can do a lot after work.

    I'm also in the east coast and I think working for a company in the PST time zone will work great for me but i think MST is better. Not too late of a start and not too late of an end either.

    Cool video, Wesley - I'm also living in EST but working remotely in a different time zone (MT; 2-hour difference). The way you effectively use your mornings is inspiring me to get up earlier and to be more productive (instead of getting up 15 minutes before work begins LOL)!

    • @WesleyHongUX
      @WesleyHongUX  2 года назад +1

      HAHA hey, I used to do that all the time. I figure if I'm in bed by midnight, and get a good 8 hour sleep, I should wake up by 8ish, and then do something productive.

    My company also works on the West Coast while I am in ATL! When I first started I worked 12-8pm but did not like ending so late so I asked my manager and HR if I can adjust it to 9-5 (ET). Since it did not affect my meetings it was approved! I’m not a big fan of meetings first thing in the morning so it’s quite nice to work ahead of everyone on the West Coast and not have to check my Slack or emails for the first 3 hours ;) Sometimes I start a little later since no one is checking for me lol

    Very insightful video bro! I’m lowkey interested in being a UX designer but I feel like being an introvert would hinder me in this environment. I’m afraid of the constant collaboration and presentations/meetings most of the day. Do u think I’d be cut out for this role or any advice?

    Just came across this video. I work as a UX designer for a London based company. They have an office in the US and I would like to work PST time since that’s where my partner is living. I tried working this time zone for a week. I enjoy the freedom and independence and had 3 hours to work with my manager but aside from that I was not able to attend morning meetings. I’m hoping my manager and HR will approve this transition. Any suggestions on how to have this conversation?

    Does your work hour varies between days of the week? 12:45pm - 7:00pm is 6 hour and 15min of work time for that day. Thank you for the video. It's great to see how other ux designers work

    • @WesleyHongUX

      LOL thank you for confirming and letting me know the exact amount of hours I put into my workday! 🤣 Don't forget to add the Morning check-in that I do in the morning as well haha.
      But to answer your question, yes it does vary. I am not always putting in a full 8 hours every day and I'm not clocking in and out. Some days, it can be 6, 7, 8, 9 hours, depending on the workload.

    Worked from CA for Japan.. loved the time difference! Hey do you ever conduct tree testing before going to wireframing? And is wireframing something that has value or something that tends to be skipped? Thx ☺

    • @WesleyHongUX
      @WesleyHongUX  2 года назад +1

      I actually never used tree testing before for wireframes. I'm sure its very helpful, especially when you're trying to understand the UX architecture of an app/product.
      I don't think you can have an app/product without having a wireframe to build from, and creating prototypes for testing? So yes, wireframes are extremely important when you're in the weaves of UI design.

    • @swhite802
      @swhite802 2 года назад

      @@WesleyHongUX Thank you so much! I am more of a researcher and the few times I've mentored UX beginners, as soon as we hit Figma/Xd, they wanted to jump over the wireframe stage and add a look and feel asap. I am not proficient in Figma/XD and I wonder, is there an efficient or well established way to go from wireframe to visual UI other than creating and updating components?

      Hi Joyce! May I ask what you mean by "can't find good ones?" Which ones have you looked into?
      Just because you're asking such an extensive question and it's hard to answer this through comments, I recommend booking a time with me through my Superpeer, so I can actually talk to you in further detail.
      Thank you.

      Hi Wesley! Can’t believe that you really reply my message. I am so happy and grateful for that. I just finished my associate degree and looking for a job, but seem like it’s pretty hard to find a job without any professional skill or major. I studied design before in my country, and i want to keep going in this UX/UI design. I start looking for a school or boost camp which is trustable. I search it on google and google give me a lot of options but I don’t know is it fake website or its good or bad. And than I saw your video that mentions a lot about boost camp. That’s why here i am

      @@joyceleung2959 There is definitely a lot of bootcamps and programs out there that you can take and choose from...but its about making sure you find the right match for you. In Chicago, I know there is a General Assembly chapter there, so I'd look into that. There are also programs at some of the colleges in the USA as well.
      If you can, id recommend you book a time with me, through my SuperPeer mentorship, so I can talk more in-depth with you.
