Circus friends sound a lot like military friends. You may never see them again, or you might cross paths further on down the line. That's the life of all nomads. I'm really enjoying this series of videos, thank you. Also, thanks for the fun and wonderful corgi content, it was nice to see her again.
same goes for my daughter's dance friends... she may go years without seeing them, but they stay in touch and love to get together when they do cross paths.
You can never have too much corgi😂. Your vlogs are charming and I love getting to see little parts of the show. Don't worry about us just continue doing you 😉.
your vlogmas vids are keeping me company as i crochet a micro mini plush dragon for my brother as his christmas gift. why i decided to do something so tiny and finicky for the first project after 1.5yr medical break from crocheting, i have no idea but you are keeping me sane and i'm almost done.
Aah Cannel is such a joyful little peanut. Always love a bit of Corgi content. It’s also been nice seeing a bit of Phil. I don’t know about anyone else but I always wonder about the invisible partners of the RUclips creators I follow. I like at least having a face to put with the name when they are mentioned.
This method of counting stitches is brilliant! I'm stealing it 😂 And please, tell me, how on earth do you get so much done? You do shows, knit, sew, film and edit, even ice skate in such a short amount of time. If I start knitting I lose more than half a day and then I do 3 things at home and it's 10 pm. I would gladly watch video with tips on time management 😂
Well I'm not doing a video per day, and I have much fewer responsibilities while on tour - just not having to exercise the dog gives me 2-3 extra hours per day!
@@ShannonMakes Oh, I haven't thought about that, that makes sense! And I wish everyone would spend as much time exercising their dogs as you spend with Cannelle, she sounds like such well taken care of doggie! I never doubted that, but I'm even more impressed how do you find time for everything.
We vicariously get to run away and join the circus! What’s not to love about these vlogs, sewing/knitting/crafting plus - something traditionally painted as subversive. Similar to, say, pirates. In fabulous banyans. 😉
Thank you for creating the videos while you are on tour! ❤ I have never really thought about the life of circus artists and now I am seeing this I wanna know more - so please keep up the little updates of your shows. I love your creativity and skill ❤
I love hearing about the fast-friends dynamic in the circus world- it actually reminds me quite a bit of how it is in the games industry (where I work) - people change studios, change countries, but they tend to do a shout-out like "Hey, I'm going to be at X event, who else do I know who's going, we should catch up!". Networking is HUGE in the games industry because - much like being a circus artist! - it's a passion-driven industry.
Ce théâtre est magnifique et la ville semble avoir plusieurs beaux bâtiments restaurés d’une époque plus glorieuse. On nous présente si souvent une vision déprimante de Detroit .
I am absolutely stealing your stitch counting trick next time I need it. It's genius. That theater is drop-dead gorgeous! Also, thanks for the episodes. They are moments of calm and enjoyment in the insanity of the season and I love seeing the stuff you're making.
Three shows in one day sounds grueling!! Although it seems to be a good thing for getting lots of knitting/crafting done! Thank you for letting us know about your fur baby and the darling video of her enjoying her frolics in the snow. My daughter’s cat gets super anxious when she pulls out the suitcase knowing either Moms leaving or they will be traveling. Either way, she doesn’t like it. So happy to hear you will continue to make the blue sweater. It’s such a lovely color and the pattern is so nice. I love the idea of making “fast” friends! ❤️It sounds wonderful and necessary for the lifestyle you live. I do have one question… does all your crafting and sewing make you popular with fellow cast mates? Especially when they have a costume crisis? Has anyone asked you to teach them to knit or sew? No pressure to actually answer! Thanks for another entertaining video!
I am, alas, not a member, but I can't imagine anyone was upset to watch corgi content, even for the second time. So *cruel* to make us all sit through that cuteness!
Thanks for another great episode, and there are definitely not too many, I am loving having you to keep me company for all my busy crafting. Glad you are continuing with the original sweater, I think it is going to be gorgeous!
Since 2020, most of my vacations have been road trips to various parts of the USA (pandemic restrictions meant staying in the car more helpful, and then I just kind of liked driving around), and Detroit is such a slept-upon city to visit. It's really got a lot of great things to see and participate in.
After a full, busy, tiring week I just binged all of these videos while doing some good life admin and house cleaning. It was lovely to have a virtual hangout with you while doing all that. ☺️
Here's a tip for you - large paper clips (metal) make very good cable needle. Just unbend so you get an angular needle. Use the short end to take off the cable stitches and the long end to knit off the held stitches. I find this provides a crisper looking cable with smaller holes on the cable sides.
I am so glad your gauge is not far off! phew! It was like watching thriller movie for me!! that means at least sweater is going to be bit bigger, possibly one size up I guess. There's trick to match your gauge to work favor on your sweater size. calculate with your st count, find out how many stitches required for matching chest circumference - for example, if you wear chest circumference 36 inch sweater, pattern with 23 sts gauge requires 207 in round so about half of that with extra seams requires (probably less because it is all over ribbing), but your actual gauge is 21, which requires about 189 sts in round ( if you follow original gauge instruction, you notices 18 sts different that means about 3 inch bigger chest circumference finished garment. so I think it is not bad especially if you want to put some clothes under but I am not sure that's what you are looking for), so you can find a size that matching your total stitches and use that pattern to match your size. Not always comes out right length (but length is easier to modified horizontal decrease or sleeve setup) so you can fix up way much easier. Sorry if I babble so much, but I love knitting so I can talk about it all day! hahahaha
I am not worried about recalculating (one because it's just math, so I'm fairly confident I can logic it out), but also because this pattern is very flexible - the same size fits bust 32" - 42" or something like that, so it's really not fitted
Omg! So funny to see our regular dog walking park here in Nuremberg in your vlog! my Shiro loooves Corgies just as much as myself - sadly only found your channel a while later. Scottish greetings from Germany!
Suggestion re: measuring: measure convenient bits of your hands and arms so you can use yourself as a ruler. The inside of my arm from elbow to wrist is exactly 25cm, so I use that a lot for measuring. The width of your hand at the base of your fingers is another good one to know. I'm glad the tour is going well, and I'm looking forward to seeing all these wonderful projects done!
Have to watch? NEED to watch. You are keeping me company as I deal with the massive to do list. My teenage son enjoys checking in on your videos while I'm watching and sees the joy it brings me.
Wow - you're hitting all the areas I lived near. Detroit - Yes indeed! I was born in Pontiac and raised in Rochester, north of Detroit. I was a teenage and early 20's when I lived there. Back then, every band on tour would hit Detroit, so was fortunate enough to see so many bands perform back in their day. I left Michigan in the early 80's and headed for Florida, Tampa area. I'm enjoying catching up watching all your Christmas Tour Videos and seeing you visit places I have lived.
The Detroit theatre looks absolutely magnificent! Glad the gauge check came out so close to the pattern, because I really like the yarn you started out with!
Yes, im watching this around start of January!! I just need something to keep my head busy when crocheting and preparing for exams, so thank you for that!!
The gauge swatch is definitely in the same stitch pattern as the one noted in the pattern, Shannon? The footage of Canelle was so adorable, she’s just a cracking little dog and beautifully trained. She makes for very heartwarming footage!! Just wanted to tell you how much I’m enjoying your channel, you are a delight and I spend such contented time watching your content while I’m sewing, it’s my happy place on the internet ❤ You are SO ‘my’ kind of person and you’re spreading a lot of positivity and joy as well as fascination with these insights into your circus world! Very impressed at how fast your knitting progress is! I hope you aren’t too shattered after the shows!
Your Vlogmas is keeping me company today while I fold laundry! I forgot to mention that I do like the pinafore style apron… I love the apron book we bought years ago called Tie one On… lol
Welcome to Detroit! You are very near my hometown of Lake Orion. Just so you know, there is an amazing yarn shop in downtown Lake Orion. It has a second chance nook that sells donated or consignment yarn and equipment at very affordable prices! Proceeds of the sales in the second chance go to a non-profit, Knit Michigan. They make comfort care items for chemo patients.
Your videos are generally very low pressure. Easy to watch while I do laundry and dishes and they have been helping with knitting burnout. Which always happens this time of year.
Watching your posts has been such a treat. When I hear that ping ooooo time for a break yayyy lol so techicaly it gives me that much needed break. Hiyas from Ontario.
Another great blog. Not all projects work out just the way we’d like lol I just gave up on a sewing project and I spent hours getting it to that point but no matter I did learn several important things that will help me with the next! Love seeing your sweet pup such a scamp! That stage is stunningly beautiful !
I am so happy to hear that your Drops yarn is going to work for the fabulous vintage cabled pullover Yay ! Love that blue...your eyes will sparkle ! Wow, your videography really showed the beauty of Downtown Detroit at Christmas time...I wish I hadn't been out-of-town for your show dates, bummer. The Fox Theater is truly a gem in our city...and I'm so glad you had time for ice skating, too. Your Vlogmas is honestly one of the highlights of my holiday season, so much fun to watch !
Morning coffee and Shannon Makes is a must! Interesting enough after your vlog on options for a sweater where you contemplated using one color for the front and one for the back, I saw a sweater in the store like that 🤗
Yay, puppy! I’m glad you guys are having fun, and Phil is so chill and down for shenanigans it’s awesome. That theater was spectacular and very dramatic which fits the theme I suppose. Your story telling is fantastic and I’m so happy to see another video. Thank you for sharing ❤
I am sick with Covid (mild) and am staying isolated so other family members don’t get sick (working so far!) so I’m very much appreciating all of your vlogmas videos and can’t wait to see what’s next. That theater in Detroit is stunning and with such a rich history!
Thanks for sharing your exciting life adventure with us. You are kind, generous and thoughtful and make the holiday season a far more pleasant and joyful experience.
Your Vlogmas episodes are the thing that's helping me through a very busy run up to Christmas. ☺ I look forward to sitting down with my sock knitting and watching the amazing work you're doing, both with the circus and the crafts. Thanks for the update on Canelle, I was also wondering where she was.
Another lovely vlog! I have loved corgis since I first saw one on the beach when I was a small child. Maybe someday I will get one but until then, your pup footage is filling my doggie craving 😅 great job on the sweater and holy cow, what an amazing theatre! I am so enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next episode to drop! Thanks for putting together such fun content for us all to enjoy! ❤
The cable sweater is looking really good! You may want to look into cable knitting without a cable needle. It sounds scary, but unless you're using very slippery yarn (like bamboo or silk) OR you're cabling some insane number of stitches (like 6 over 6) then cabling without a needle is a useful skill to have.
That's how I did part of my WW2 V-Necked vest - the instructions are meant to not use a cable needle, if I remember correctly (it being 2 years now?!), but I have plenty of needles on hand, so it wasn't a big deal!
Question (maybe for a future Q&A): is your circus partner also your romantic partner? Sorry for the personal question, now that we see him a bit featured in your video I am curious.
I enjoy watching the Vlogmas videos when they come out. They are so much fun to watch. It gave something to enjoy while I was recovering from the gnarly cold someone graciously shared with me. I suppose I can't complain since I rarely get sick. I think this is the second time this year. Only thus one took all my energy and my voice. So today I will be finishing off the vests and preparing for Christmas pictures and cards. I'm very late on them this year. Then tomorrow when the light is right I will do pictures and run down and make up Christmas cards and get them out in the mail. Homes stretch 😉 I really like how your sweater is turning out. I can't wait to see how it looks with the next color. I'm glad to hear your roommate is going to graciously buy you some more yarn and try to ship it to you. I have seen the jumper a few times. I think I started with the sport corset video, which was super cool. But I have to say that I have not looked at towels the same way since. There have been a few times when I have looked at my towels and wonder what else can you make with them. I have half a mind to try make a robe. Just something to wrap up in going to and from the spa during these chilly winter evenings. I love it that much.😂
Hi, Shannon. I eagerly watch each Vlogmas when they’re posted! Thanks for the update on Canelle (sp.?)… I miss her energy and cuteness. The blue sweater is looking great… I’m glad that you’re able to get more yarn. See you next Vlog❤️🎄
I’m enjoying watching your videos as I’m powering through knitting socks. I’m glad you got to see and showcase the pretty parts of Detroit. Have you ever been in a city where you felt unsafe to go sightseeing?
That sweater looks like it's gonna be so cozy!! also your "questionable hotel blocking process" looks eerily like my "washing my nylons on a layover process" sans pins I guess Flight attendant life is very similar to circus artist on tour life. Also you're not missing much winter weather here. The snow is all melting in montreal :( Also I don't know if any one else asked, but how did you and Phil meet? I want your circus act origin story!
You went ice skating in Campus Martius. Have you had pizza at Buddy's? Have you had a coney at Lafayette Coney Island or American Coney Island? It's great that you were in awe of the Fox Theatre. (I'm a native of Detroit, if you can't tell already.) For a LYS, I recommend Skeins on Main in Rochester Hills, and have an ice cream Sunday at Sanders. Have you tried a Boston Cooler yet?
Literally the only free time we had was the time to walk from the hotel to the theater, and then whatever was open afterwards, around 10 pm, within walking distance... and with limited energy to burn 😭🤣 so limited activities, including for yarn shopping (unfortunately, because I'd love to browse more LYS)
Someone else recommended that, so if I'm ever in a real pinch (without any spare needles) I'll give it a go - I do know that my cable twists from my WW2 vest knit were done without cables, the instructions were written so that you didn't *need* to own a cable need (metal rationing, etc), but I think I used a cable needle for the larger 3 stitch cables... 🤔
Circus friends sound a lot like military friends. You may never see them again, or you might cross paths further on down the line. That's the life of all nomads. I'm really enjoying this series of videos, thank you. Also, thanks for the fun and wonderful corgi content, it was nice to see her again.

There are several Fox Theatre’s of this style. We have one here in St. Louis. The architecture in ours is referred to as Siamese Byzantine style.

I am sick with Covid (mild) and am staying isolated so other family members don’t get sick (working so far!) so I’m very much appreciating all of your vlogmas videos and can’t wait to see what’s next. That theater in Detroit is stunning and with such a rich history!
Oh noooo, I hope you get better soon! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
@@ShannonMakes thank you!
Thanks for sharing your exciting life adventure with us. You are kind, generous and thoughtful and make the holiday season a far more pleasant and joyful experience.
You're welcome! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
So excited to see how the jumper knits up. It's such an interesting pattern. ❤
You are so lovely ❤️ just wanted to say that. Thanks for being on RUclips 🤗 God bless and enjoy the Christmas season 🥰
You're very welcome! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Love hearing that! ♥️🎄♥️
You're very welcome! ♥️🎄♥️
I feel like I'm stalking people when i see their videos as soon as they're posted. 😂
Same :)
Thank you for the corgi content! That theater is amazing!
Any time! And yes, it definitely is!
That theatre looks beautiful! And a ton like the Fabulous Fox in St Louis.
Yes, I believe they were designed by the same person!
Thanks for sharing your journey! Like to see more of the performances…… ❤
♥️🎄♥️
Glad you answered the question about Carnell,I almost asked but thought it might be to invasive.
🐶🐶
I’m loving these videos!!!! So awesome! Shannon you gotta learn to cable without a needle. It’s a total game changer!
I'll look it up!
Enjoying vlogmas! Thanks for the beautiful footage of my hometown.
You're very welcome! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Your sweater is coming out so well
Thank you!!! 🥰
I love your vlogmas and I can't wait for the next one.
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Ma ville préférée de ron tour jusqu'a maintenant. Merci beaucoup pour partager tes passe temps avec nous. Joyeux Noël!

Is that postbox still open?
Filally found something to send. But it'll take a while to travel from Germany....
Yes, I will have it through the end of January!
I love it that much.😂
Sorry to hear that you were sick, hopefully you're having a speedy recovery ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄 Thank you 🥰
HOW. HOW does Canele fit so much cuteness into such a little tiny body? Is it corgi physics?? 😂
Definitely corgi physics!
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Ooohhh the sweater is coming along nicely!!! :) It'll all work out.
Yesss!! ♥️🎄♥️
Our cat also enjoyed the snow corgi content
omg, that's amazing...!! 😻
I've used a paper clip (un-bent) for holding cables before 😆. I was expecting Phil (?) to be hiding in the shower 🤣💜
lolll love that! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Thank you for the corgi content ❤
You’re very welcome ☺️ 🐶
I’m enjoying watching your videos as I’m powering through knitting socks. I’m glad you got to see and showcase the pretty parts of Detroit. Have you ever been in a city where you felt unsafe to go sightseeing?
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄 (and no, but we're also almost always in small groups)
I need a full rundown of circus sub genres!
Yes, probably very similar in many aspects!
Inspiring sweater progress! Love the glimpses of circus life! I’m new to your channel and enjoying!
Thanks so much! 😊♥️🎄♥️
I´ve used toothpicks, pins and twigs as cable needles - until I learned to cable without a cable needle. Maybe if you try you'll like the technique.
Not seeing all yours vlogmas? Absolutely against that idea! You help getting in the Christmas mood!!!
Love that, thanks!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
