First time I've seen those smaller format of the First Little Golden Books, was in the 1990's. First Little Golden Books, which are much smaller in size than the regular Little Golden Books. I was told that the books are provided and served as the stepping stones to the world of Little Golden Books. Those books were slightly smaller than the Whitman/Golden Tell-A-Tale books (6" b 5 1/2"), and they were 24 pages long. They also had the Little Golden Books silver spine, which made that connection from the smaller and larger books recognizable. Many titles from this series range from brand new stories and some reprints previously published LGB titles such as The Happy Man and His Dump Truck, Richard Scarry's The Gingerbread Man (formerly titled Richard Scarry's Nursery Tales) are exactly the same format as LGB. Others have adapted previous books with new illustrations such as Richard Scarry's Christmas Nice (originally titled The Christmas Book and The Santa Claus Book), I Can Fly, What Am I?, Busy Timmy, Katie the Kitten, The Three Little Kittens, Baby's First Book, and earlier titles such as Baby Animals on the Farm, Bambi and the Butterfly, and My First Book of Animal Sounds. A few Tell-A-Tale books were reprinted under the First Little Golden Book imprint, including Sesame Street: The Count's Poem, and Sesame Street: First Times. Many are now into multiple reprints. Lasted from 1981 until 1998, at least 8 years. I own 4 of them, and I used to have 5, and I'll will purchase and get more soon.
