I love going back to look at some good B.E.T. line ups from the 80s and 90s. Too bad our generation missed out on this and parents were blessed to have it😢💯💯🔥🔥🔥

You're not the only one. This brings back tons of memories when I was five years of age going on six in 1984.

According to Alvin Jones, they were pretty much forced to play several rock videos on Video Vibrations due to the limited supply of R&B videos which I find very bogus. They knew what they were doing. Once more African Americans got access to BET the following year, they put a stop to all that. They wouldn’t even play Autograph or bands like that on NY Hot Tracks. I understand BET playing Hall & Oates, Cyndi Laupher, Madonna, Foreigner, Billy Joel, and a little Pat Benetar, but Autograph is way too MTV and way too heavy metal, circa 1984-85.
Video Vibrations showcased many rap videos that Video Soul didn’t or wouldn’t dream of playing circa 1984 like GrandMaster Melle Mel, Roxanne Shante, and the original Jazzy Jeff. Video Soul played only a few rap videos that were cutting edge and were on the charts like The Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow, Whodini, and Afrika Bambaataa.

As much as I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything, I think, in my opinion, that BET played those white artists videos to teach MTV a lesson for not airing black artists videos, including those by Rick James, when that channel first got started.

Back then, that's what BET had to do. At the time, a lot of black artists weren't sold on the concept of music videos. Even the artists themselves said as much. Only when music videos took off was when black artists got on board. To fill the time slot, a lot rock music was played due to that. I remember A LOT of new wave and pop music getting airplay on BET during that period.

@jeffrey5165 facts I agree I never heard of video vibrations on BET I was 7 years old in 1984 all I remember was MTV back in but we didn't even get bet till 1988 so what's that true what you were saying bet what's playing rock and pop videos of white artists like a Cyndi Lauper Hall & oats instead of original black artist like to Earth Wind & Fire New Edition Prince Rick James and others???

@@pervertedalchemist9944 it’s not only just that they were not sold on it, the black music divisions of these labels weren’t being funded for videos.
