I appreciate the fact that there are some really brave people in the world. And I'm perfectly content to watch them from the comfort of my own home.
I didn’t want this video to end as I was enthralled in the cavers’ journey. Sleeping in a hammock in a pitch black cave…call me crazy but it sounds wonderful. Thanks for recording, editing, and sharing this. I know it was a lot of work and I appreciate it so much. I will never be able to go caving so living vicariously through those that do is very fulfilling, satisfying…stay safe.

Really dug this video, it really captures the enthusiasm and passion of everyone I've known in Canadian academia.
OMG! When they were squeezing into the unexplored part of the cave I felt like I was there, because I couldn't watch any more; I felt my anxiety getting really bad when I thought to myself what if they can't get through. How did they know they were going to get through that tight spot? Then one of them says, "Do we have to go back the this way"? I'm going crazy!! These guys got some balls on them, really!!

Actually science is science fiction.
I have a feeling that they could've turned this into a 4-5 hour long documentary and it would have still felt too short and interesting. Documenting explorations and adventures is so fascinating, and all that we're watching is people gathering and analyzing sand lol...

Excellent technical details throughout the program - this is what a documentary SHOULD be like! With the web, we can easily look up the researchers featured & look for scientific papers that they've published on these subjects!

Absolutely great documentary covering two different subjects that I've always been interested in. I used to do a lot of caving when I was younger, and now that I'm old, I have seen the havoc that's super bugs can wreak. I also know that there is not a large financial incentive for pharmaceutical companies to research new antibiotics to combat superbugs.
There will be someday when customers start dying...sigh.....

Question: if the “carbon acidified water eroded away the limestone but left the marble untouched causing the stripe pattern of marble we see in the cave” then what caused the scoop out patterns seen in the marble in the cave? Can’t be the water, so what scooped out the stone? 🤔🤷🏼♀️

Yes, except geologist clearly state the carbon acidified water did not and could not erode the marble. If, as you say it was some type of water, how did it erode the limestone in evenly spaced striped patterns and then erode the marble in scattered grouped scoop patterns and to uneven depths of those scoops? 🤔 This argument seems very illogical to me, but I don’t know everything so to me it is worth further investigation. 🤷🏼♀️

It was phrased badly.
This is the chemical reaction H20+C02 H2CO3. The acid is weak and it is dilute, and that is why it takes a very long time to dissolve the limestone. The water alone is not enough to cause the erosion, at least not as the main agent.
Karst itself is very porous because the gypsum and CaCO3 it is associated with doesn't exactly have a tight structure and as a rock it is softer than many others. Passages first get carved out of the rock, but if moisture remains you can get solutional calcium based rock and formations and color patterns are dictated by how something dripped or what other minerals were present.

Not being a scientist, I have a stupid question: Is it possible that by bringing up new microorganisms, these brave explorer-scientists may be introducing something extremely dangerous?
There is a chance, but the data suggests it's very small. Until it isn't -- just kidding.
Did you know that Russian scientists recently revived a life-form that was frozen in permafrost for about 30,000 years? It even went about its existence like nothing unusual occurred. It didn't seem to behave like it was handicapped, is what I mean, despite being frozen in time.

That would be unusual. It is not impossible, just improbable. Most stuff down there is adapted to absolute darkness. The little brown bat cannot see very well but it can detect ultraviolet light: anything brighter than a matchstick would be like the surface of Venus to the poor thing.
PS-Mammoth Cave. Currently the longest cave in the world is a plane ride away from Toronto, Vancouver, etc. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it has had millions of visitors over the years, but keep in mind that the part you are permitted to tour is a very tiny fraction of a YUUGE system that is mostly wild. The cave system is approaching 500 miles long and the only way to survey it is to explore it.
Explorations have gone on for 200 years. They are STILL finding new places. In the past couple of years more than 25 miles have been added and members of the local caving clubs that work with the National Park System are all in good health. The NPS in the USA estimates Mammoth could easily be 2x the size mapped currently.

All cave divers should be using special military rebreathers, like the ones used by special forces…good video, documentary….
Tom, your comment caught my eye. I am assuming that you are not a US special forces veteran, trained in the use of re-breathers or a "certified cave diver". I would like to share some info regarding "re-breathers" for your consideration.
1) The US military currently issues the "Draeger LAR V re-breather" to the special forces. The Draeger LAR V is a gen1 re-breather have a malfunction rate of 24%.
2) When compared with open circuit scuba, re-breathers have some disadvantages, including expense, complexity of operation and maintenance, and more critical paths to failure
3) re-breathers are fragile & mechanically complex, relying on electronic instruments & control systems to monitor and maintain a safe breathing gas mixture.
4) Due to the complexity of the re-breather, the potential failure modes are far more than that of open circuit scuba, being safety-critical and not easily recognized by the diver without technological intervention. A major disadvantage of a re-breather is that, due to a failure, gas may continue to be available for breathing, but the mixture provided may not support consciousness, and this may not be apparent to the user. With open circuit, this type of failure can only occur if the diver selects an unsuitable gas, and the most common type of open circuit failure, the lack of gas supply, is immediately obvious, and corrective steps like changing to an alternative supply would be taken immediately.
While there are situations that would benefit from the use of re-breathers, this particular cave exploration is not one of them.
A lot of it is in Quebec (French Canada), which is a nation itself.
I'm so annoyed by freaking English Canada erasing Quebec out of existence with the century-old slow cultural genocide.

Yes, it is, but I would be far more scared if we had to deal with bacterial infections like our ancestors before Alexander Flemming and the advent of Penicillin. Frankly, I'm still amazed we have such a tool at our disposal -- it's a triumph of science + human ingenuity (edit: with some inspiration from nature). And I say that as someone who believes in intelligent design (to an extent).
Big pharma has to reap the revenue benefits of treatment first...before unveiling the cure.
As a caving video, this is alright, but it's much more about bats than caves. If you want videos that showcases caves, not bats, check out actionadventuretwins channel on RUclips.

Oh, _that_ is likely because it would cost a lot of money just to even get such high-tech equipment.
Unfortunately, not every science-based exploration actually has the budget necessary for their activities, so, it tends to limit what tools they can work with.

So I have just watch a cave dive in china, they spoke English, now I’m watching this in in Canada we’re our native tongue is English and it is being translated. What’s wrong with this picture, not to mention the translation is horrible.
I thought Canada's native tongue is English except in Quebec, where it's French.

At 8:08 caver asks" "So what kind of rock is this..." Oh please. Any experienced caver would know without needing to ask that the rock is limestone. This tells me that the video is scripted, and the information conveyed is only for the viewer. As a former caver myself I find the video interesting. But it could have been improved by getting rid of the childish script, and by getting rid of the annoying background music especially near the end. The visuals are fine and speak for themselves. Although White Rabbit may not be as photogenic as other North American caves, it and all caves are beautiful for what they are.
