- Today I am sewing a 1950s vintage milkmaid dress. I wanted to use some fun halloween fabrics to make a spooky cottagecore dress. I used an authentic vintage sewing pattern Simplicity 3917.

Wow! It looks so modern. With that style being in fashion, no one would ever guess it was a vintage pattern. Fabulous!!!
The combination of this pattern and the fabric make this super unique and pretty! Wonderful work!
Thank you!
Wonderful! This is how I sew too. I feel like I do it for videos as well I only explain the more difficult things. I adore the pattern with this fabric 😍😍😍. I even moved my ironing board next to my machine and lowered it to the height of my machine so I don’t have to get up.
Thanks for mentioning that quick doesn’t equal sloppy. I French seam everything and I hand sew all my hems. Once you get used to things you end up picking up speed naturally.
Yeah I feel like the more you practice the quicker you can get because you have the muscle memory!
Haya. Wonderful dress & you look great 💙Pretty fabric. 🤩Always enjoy watching you sew; it is like having a sew sista to hang out with🧵Thanku 'sew' much for sharing ✂
The tips for faster sewing are so helpful. I am not new to sewing but I'm trying to get more skilled and I think now I will try some of these, and also change the layout of my sewing space... thank you. The dress is adorable!
Glad I could help! Since my sewing space is so small by default everything is close together lol
Beautiful dress,
Hi Haley Marie. I love your dress it is so colourful and one you could wear to work or on the beach.
Great cutting with regard to the lines in the fabric pattern!
It came out perfect!! Looks great on you
Very pretty dress. Love the material. The green blouse you wore was lovely. I am a new sewing lady. No way can I tackle this project but still learning. Take care.
Congrats on starting your sewing journey I wish you all the luck and patience!
Very cute. Well done.

The stripes really work with that pattern
I love the back drops that you share with the dresses.
Thank you! I take a bunch of time scouting locations so I am glad you enjoy them!
You look so beautiful in that dress. Great job!!!
I love this. The stripes are perfect!
I am loving that pattern!
You look so cute this dress is amazing❤
Pretty.
I absolutely love how this came out the fabric you chose gives it such a Tim burton feel and I’m 100% here for it xx
Super cute! I love how it turned out ❤
Beautiful! Thank you for the Halloween inspo!
I adore how this came out! You did a great job! Also, I am here for the "we hand sew and annoy a cat"!
I ❤ it!
The dress looks so modern. Perfect!
Love how the dress turned out, it looks really good on you.
Oh Haley this dress came out beautiful! I honestly love this stripe fabric! You look adorable in it!
I've been thinking about making a milk maid dress. I wonder if there is an age appropriate factor to consider? I started an Ann Adams vintage pattern today. So exiting. Your dress came out very cute. It's nice to note when we get better at a skill. Like zippers!
In my opinion age appropriate never matters, as long as you feel good about how you dress that is all that matters!
Where do you buy your vintage patterns?
I buy my patterns mostly off etsy!
what stitch do you use to sew down your hems?
Blind hem stitch mostly

Same thing for me and Joanne fabrics, like even of this is quilting cotton why is it so nasty? It still goes against your skin.
Yeah it is wild how scratchy some of their quilting cottons are!
