I'm seriously convinced that, if this dude was born in 1600 he would have been one of the greatest composers

He's still is a great composer. I'm working my way through his technique books with an aim of composing my own. I'm a big Adam jones fan. If I can add some Adam jones tonality with dann mumm theory and technique, I will be satisfied.

I see these videos then look at my banjo and think, "No way will I ever be half that good." Then I think, "Every great guitar player probably started out seeing some guy play like a Greek God and thought the same thing."

@@DanMummSolo I know I can't. I suffer from chronic pain due to an injury while in the Army and the meds I take impact my ability to play. Twitchy muscles might hit the wrong note or ignore my brain trying to hit the right. Slight spaciness from Vicodin makes me lose my place easily. But I still have fun despite knowing I won't ever be great, and fun is all that really matters for me.

@@natsune09 Man, I'm very sorry to hear that. I can imagine that that would make highly concentrated practice sessions extremely difficult. It's great to hear that you're still able to enjoy playing though. I will say not to throw in the towel on being great with it too early though. The brain is incredible at adapting and if you're still able to enjoy playing, you never know how far you can go with it until you get there. At the very least, you might surprise yourself. As you mentioned in your comment, highly advanced playing can seem impossible before you get there. But that's only because the road to getting there is invisible at that stage. The truth is, if you keep up regular practice with highly specific goals then your skill level increases exponentially over time. Just by virtue of practicing a lot, you even become better at practice itself which helps to spur you forward even faster.
