    I’ve had similar experiences in my time as a photographer. A recent couple examples is a woman chased me down in her car and accused me of taking photos of her house. She even called the police. My response to her was to tell her she can do whatever she wants and then I walked away. I had done nothing wrong and had no obligation to play along with her and wait for the police. She really did call the police too. I called them too once I was a good distance away to make contact.
    The second experience I had recently is I was taking photos testing a Polaroid camera. I had the camera on a tripod taking a photo of a local church. Suddenly I felt watched. I scanned around and saw an older woman recording me with her cell phone. I did not engage with that woman. Took my photo and left.
    I think people are a bit stressed out these last few years. I’ve been walking and shooting since around 2016 and never had issues like that until the last 3-4 years. I think since around 2020 I’ve had at least one or two confrontations annually. With the two events I mentioned happening within a month.
    You also can’t forget that people might be projecting. They might be calling you names for carrying a camera because they know what they would do with a camera and think you’re doing the same thing. People are weird as hell.

      Yikes! Yeah, like I said, most of my experiences photographing people have been positive. No police yet!

      @@stuffandthingsyoutubeyeah cause the people you've met are very low class and their first response after word splat abuse is to throw punches 👊 😳
      You've got to take people seriously and avoid them as much as possible.
      Out of 150 guys who went to the city to socially interact with the city, all 149 guys went to jail or died.
      Only I survived.
      Choose where you go.
      Don't let strangers get near you.
      Expect punches 👊
      Expect getting thrown into courtrooms.
      Etc...
      Defend Yourself!!!
      Don't let them cross the street and get near you.
      It takes 2 seconds for the low class to start bad mouthing you around town.
      Within 2 seconds of having a nice conversation with you, they're already saying horrible stuff about you to anyone who'll listen.
      Chain reactions are to be avoided.
      The old saying of loose lips 💋 think ships 🚢 is TRUE and it applies to YOU.
      EVERYDAY people are throwing people into courtrooms.
      You take charge of your life.

      Realise people are dangerous.
      Take control over your life.
      Don't casually walk up next to the low class.
      Don't open yourself to strangers.
      There's reasons why people get so frustrated by the public they go live on an island 🏝 somewhere and become monks.
      Jails are full of guys like you.
      Don't just roll up to burger joints.
      If we could put a camera 📷 on you we're going to get some exciting videos 📹
      Don't just go casually diving into rivers either.
      You know, THINK ABOUT IT before you do it.

    Tomatoes and potatoes have nicotine in them. Nicotine is a pretty common in low levels in many things. It's the tars and other volatile chemicals in burning tobacco that pose a health hazard. I'm in my mid 50s so a small health hazard from my pipe smoking is greatly outweighed by the mental benefits of slowing down almost meditation when I smoke a pipe.

    The best reply to the accusation of being a pervert is to lean in heavily, with something like, "Me, a pervert? Yes, I am a SEASONED pervert, which is why your are nowhere on my radar. Anything else?"

    It’s age. I could do the same exercises in my early 40s and suffer more recovery than my late 30s, it’s amazing how every 5 years recovery time increases, despite doing the exact same things you thought you could easily do just a short while back. I just don’t overdo it now.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  19 дней назад +1

      I'm sure age has a bit to do with it, but I was also just being stupid, doing the the same amount and intensity of dumbbell exercises and pull-ups that I had been doing previously, even though I hadn't done any for 5 months. Feeling better now!

    • @joelhuston1881
      @joelhuston1881 18 дней назад

      @@stuffandthingsyoutube I had the same issue from doing pull-ups. Maybe it was something with my form, but I think it was more likely the repetition of doing pull-ups multiple times during the week. I took a week off and then switched mixed in chin-ups instead of solely doing pull-ups. That has helped a ton!

    It's still summer in Japan, and I have my aircon going all the time. The heat isn't expected to subside until at least the end of the month. I''ll be glad when it's over.
    Indeed, you ran into some Karens in the wild. I'm glad they didn't accost you further because it could have turned out so much worse. There have been quite a few viral videos where Karens have made false accusations, double downed on them, and just made life completely miserable for the victim involved. There's two that immediately come to mind.
    There's that bird watcher in Central Park. An argument ensued over an unleashed dog, and the Karen involved in this story called the police saying, "An African American man is threatening my life." It was really chilling to watch her go from Karen into victim in a couple of seconds. Had I not seen the video, and only heard the 911 call, I would have believed her. Weaponizing police because she couldn't get her way. I'm not sure if she was charged for making a false report.
    The second case involved a Generation Z Karen who accused an 11 year old with his father of stealing her phone, and attempting to unlawfully detain that family. I still remember the guy's argument (paraphrasing), "Because there's only one iPhone in the entire world." It turned out that she dropped her phone in her Uber. In the interviews following that situation, she didn't seem apologetic or remorseful at all. I think the charges ended up getting dropped in exchange for community service or something.
    I too, got accosted a few times for filming in my previous neighbourhood. The privacy laws are quite strict in Japan, and you can't film anyone without permission. That's why I am careful to blur out anyone who appears in the backgrounds of my videos because you can potentially get sued if you don't. Even though I did everything right, it still didn't stop the Karen from bothering me at the park.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  19 дней назад +1

      Interesting stuff! I listened to an entire podcast about the first situation you mentioned, and it turns out that she wasn't quite as "Karen" in reality as you might think from the tapes. I've heard that about Japan! Definitely must make filming videos tough!

    As late as the 60s, in New York or Chicago and other big tourist cities, there were men on the streets with special cameras that would take your photo and hand you a card with their contact info and a number.
    If you want a photo then send them a buck and get it in the mail.
    There were even special cameras fit for purpose.

    You might put a cap on the camera lens when not in use. But I don't have a solution for this: One morning in the gym, an unattractive young woman loudly and at length accused my training partner of looking at her when all he was doing was trying to figure out if she was close to being done with the Smith Rack we wanted to use. Too many young women think we are focused on them when we are more likely to be thinking about something else. Just because they take selfies all the time doesn't mean we are absorbed with them as they are with themselves.

    Vlogging with my partner around the world (diff account) we have more trouble with people WANTING to be on camera when we don't want them to be. Like strangers straight up jumping in front of the camera, and waving or shouting. Then when I turn the camera down or away they - checks notes - get mad at me?

    On the nicotine issue, i think it's a combination of the insanely effective social rejection campaign launched on smoking as a whole back in the 80s and 90s, and the fact that humans are so painfully incapable of accepting and processing nuance once we think we possess some monolithic truth about a thing.

    Hi, Bradley. Sort of off the cuff. The 1. Bagel B***h was, IMHO, a Karen, possibly grade 2.5 to 3.0. As to the first encounter, I think an utter lack of self-esteem and self-worth was showing, the comments were seemingly meant to build their bruised ego. 2. "If it creates smoke it is bad" is the mantra of the anti-tobacco crowd--IMHO. It seems they put every person who puts flame to tobacco in the same category; nuance is lost on them, since, like the honey badger, they don't give a s***, they just want to spew their skewed point of view. 3. IMHO, skip the sports unless it relates to F1 or WRC. 4. This video now is on my weekend "must-watch" list, along with Legit Street Cars and I Do Cars. See ya next week....😉

    You forgot to talk about the cost of the pipe. Yea you could just buy a corn Cobb, but show me a pipe smoker that doesn’t have at least 20 pipes in their house 🤣. Some of these guys have thousands 😮
    You definitely need to try more cigars if you think they all taste the same. Padron 2000 isn’t bad by any means but that’s their lowest offering. Try a 1964 or 1926. Try a Dunbarton Stillwell Star (they have Cornell and Diehl pipe tobacco in them). Send me your address and I can send you some stuff to try.

    As for the blonde chick accusing you of... whatever, when was MTG in Bellingham? As for the woman with the "teenage daughter," who knows? As someone below advised, perhaps a lens cap, or pointing the camera toward yourself, might be advisable. Over 30 years ago, when I was 38, I was watching the news and doing biceps curls, I found that when I finished and took a shower and brushed my teeth, I couldn't control my right arm. It was a Friday evening, and my right arm was pretty much useless for the whole weekend. Long story short, my spinal cord was almost pinched in two at two levels. A six-hour neurosurgery fixed the problem!
