You do good work my frend !
Thanks Joseph!!
You did an awesome job. It came out great!! Remember, challenges are cleverly disguised as knowledge & experience!
The second gen Charger was a stunner as the sales numbers showed at the time. I just completed the Revell 68 version and for fun fabricated the complete exhaust to factory super stock configuration, dumps, crossover and all. I feel kits are a starting point. A blank canvas, if you will. The fun is in adding our own touches, because for most of us that makes the result truly our own. The only frustrations I had were the usual mold issues and some minor distortion...what is with hood fitment on these Chargers?!
I don't know. The hood, grill, rear bumper and many other things didn't fit on it without major modifications.
i loved that kit was thinking of buying two more but im spread to thin with all the car projects on the table now
I have a "Dukes" version of this kit that I mildly custom built. It was definitely a challenge of my skills. But it can be built into a shelf worthy looker. Yours turned out amazing. Thanks for sharing your hobby with us.
Thanks Stacy!!👍🏻👍🏻
my motto is i build for me for my pleasure not for anyone else keep posting your builds it is a pleasure to see them
Thanks Terry!!👍🏻👍🏻
Mine wasn't bad. Wish I could add a picture. Was just added to the Facebook group. I'll post it there
Thank You! Its gonna sit in my home in my cabinet and i build to the best of my eligibility. Im 42 and ive been a builder since i was 7.
I got an MPC of a 71 GTO out of my collection of unbuilt kits, it was garbage, very old kit, the wheels, engine possibly are salvageable but all I built from it was the drag racing Christmas tree. So I got out the Revell 69 Camaro 427 Baldwin Motion and got it half way built in only two 4 he sessions, goin into paint now. You did an outstanding job friend, building makes us better, love to do a General Lee myself.
This era of charger is my favorite it was Chryslers best design it had beautiful lines and its almost like a coke bottle shape it was a sweet spot in the muscle car era
Great paint job - would like too see when you have issues and how you resolve vs just talking about it - great builds
I had same problems building this kit, yours looks 100 times better. I tend to only build mopar models.
Just came across your video of this build last night. I've been building models of all subjects over the past 47 years and have always felt the same about MPC. I'm very familiar with their car kits and I feel your pain, but you've done an outstanding job.The timing is ironic because I was in the midst of writing my thoughts on building the MPC/ Round 2 Space 1999 Eagle 2 for my modelling page, the first kit with the MPC badge I've ever tackled that fit well. That said, I echo the view that kits like the Charger are what truly test our skill.
I've always had great fondness for Johan's kits, mainly because they've tackled subjects that no other manufacturer has (I'm currently building their Javelin AMX pro-stock). They're not much more sophisticated than MPC's mouldings but I've always gained great satisfaction from turning something rough into what I feel is a beautiful finished product.
Just subscribed to your channel because this to me is what modelling is all about.
Thanks!!!
Every once in a while a a lemon lands on your bench great recovery nicely done!!!
Thanks James!!👍🏻👍🏻
I am an old guy and I remember back in the day you could order a car with lots of items that did not come on standard models. If you are good enough to build the hard ones the easy ones are a breeze.
Good comment, build it the way you want, not how you think others would do it. Every kit has flaws/challenges, that's what makes this hobby the fun it is...overcome them, fix them, modify them your way with your solutions. Great job on this one!
Yes! I just got finished with the AMT/ERTL version of the '69 Genral Lee Charger and it was REDICULOUS!!! A FLASHTASTIC NIGHTMARE! I built it for a friend.... But for some crazy reason I got an MPC for myself to do as a stock car. I think it'll assemble better without the interior or the glass. Your build looks awesome to me.
Thanks!!
i recently got back into building model cars and watching your videos have helped me alot. i subscribed and cant wait to see what other kits you build. cheers
Thanks Anthony!!👍🏻👍🏻
No thumbs up or down. To much talking and not showing how you did it which is what I wanted. Other than that. I love how you do your craft. It shows your skills are super awesome. I'm on same exact kit as I'm posting this. Not as skilled as you. But yes compared to other kits, it's very, make it work as best as you can. Lol. Other than that, you have a lifetime subscriber for your channel. Thanks
Beautiful job with the 1969 charger excellent attention to detail with the detailing of the interior and the hemi engine it looks just like the real car no matter if its an mpc model
Thanks David!!
I built a few kits in my High School and College days... I wish I had the talent and patience to go as good of a job on a kit like this like you can..
Thanks Thomas!!👍🏻👍🏻
Great work as is normal, used your plug wire method. Thank you for the tip.
I just started making models in the last year. That was my second model. It was hard the revell kit is alot better.
The paint looks great ! I know from past videos you have struggled with that, looks like you have met that challenge, Great job!
Thanks!! It's getting better for sure!
I built the '69 Charger Revell Pro Modeler kit in white with a black vinyl roof. Easy build and turned out great. Sorry you had all that trouble with the MPC, but it turned out looking good.
Thanks!!
It must have just been that one because I just did one of them and it came with the chassis and interior already friction fit in it and it went in pretty good once I had all that painted and done
Ah...the kit bashers dream and I don't mean bashing it against a wall but as you said, long term build to do whatever to turn it into decent looking model. I think you succeeded. It's always good to have a challenge and not let the kit beat you into giving up.
Thanks Neil!!👍🏻👍🏻
It sure does look great on here. Love the color on it. Ron
Thanks Ron!!👍🏻👍🏻 That silver is a fun color!
Great job brother!!! I will never do another one of those. Any kit has things here n there but that kit, damn!!
Lol!!
If you do a '69 charger again, it be great to see a replica of the dirty mary crazy larry charger
That one moment when you put it on the shelf shiit best feeling
As hard as it was to get together, it turned out great! Love that color too! I also like how you used the chrome paint to make the kit look more realistic. Sweet Charger!
Thanks Tim!!👍🏻👍🏻
All things considered, you did a great job on that kit. I gave up on mine. There's no way I could have gotten mine to look as good as yours.
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
You Done a great job. Mpc kits are a challenge , but it Looks great.
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
Great job. I just finished my first MPC kit a little while ago of the 73 Mustang. Must of been one of there better ones, no issues.
I'll have to look for that one!!
Looks really good.
The body on the General Lee kit is different because the back window is a fast back like a super bee, not like the one on your kit.
I've got 2 General Lee kits. Started one and need to get it finished and not sure what I'll do with the other one. Lol
I like it very much but I would never touch an MPC again, my big respect to you
Thanks Stephen!!👍🏻👍🏻
I can't build that well even with snap tight kits.
I'd be more than happy to be able to build to that calibre. Well done.
Thanks Sinbad!!👍🏻👍🏻
You took a challenging kit and made it look good. I love the color combo and wheels. Engine looks good in my opinion too. Keep doing what you do. 😎👍🏾
Thanks Clifton!!👍🏻👍🏻
I hear ya, that's why I couldn't build the mpc 67 gto.
It looks good on this end of the camera!!! Like you said it's a MPC!!! You gotta build for yourself or it takes the fun out of it.
Yep!! Thanks Michael!!👍🏻👍🏻
That's a AMAZING BUILD.! Especially for a MPC Kit.!...And I Have the same kit you made...I'll make it in Metallic Blue..
looks fantastic! My only complaint is the color... that silver looks more like gray metallic... but gosh... what a great job you did and the spark plug wire looks really nice... ! Love your videos....
Thanks
I had a similar stance issue with the the amt 67 Chevy Impala years ago. I had to carve a LOT off the firewall to get it to set wgare it should. I took it a step further and lowered the car.
Awesome job on the kit. Dig the color!
Thanks Brandon!!👍🏻👍🏻
Looks cool. I love hard to build kits. I'm scratch building the cheech and chong Fiber weed van and it's the hardest challenge I've ever put myself thru, taking my time on it.
Thats awesome!!
Other than you telling us about the issues. If i was just looking at pictures. That thing looks badass! I have built this kit before to. I’m a big mopar guy!
Thanks Jacob!!👍🏻👍🏻
Plus it synonymous with the general lee i grew up watching the Duke Boys as a kid
Came out nice. You can call it your social distance kit!
Yep!!🤣🤣
That kit was mastered in the early 1970's using hand-made techniques, not modern day digital one. There's no way it will compare to a modern kit for fit and detail. It will have fit issues and require much higher skill level to complete. But generations a of builders assembled that kit and learned how to build when things are less than ideal. SO it was tough, but I bet you will use some the things you learned in the future.
Enjoyed this and part one . I think it came out pretty good apart from the goofy stance . If l was to build this one I'd drop the front end down paint the interior grey primer and the body , wheels and bumpers satin black . The bonnet (hood) I'd glue in position and not bother with the engine . Keep it super simple ! Look forward to watching some more of your builds , from a new subscriber from lil' ole England !
Thanks Peter!!👍🏻👍🏻 Bonnet gave you away! Lol
Well done! You do the best you can. Have fun and rivet counters and accuracy lovers be damned!
Thats right Mike!!👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks
Amen to that!
That thing looks efin AWESOME
MPC, old Revell and old AMT had a lot of rough old castings that are challenge builds, but they are great for honing building skills.
That's right!!
You turned the torsion bars up to high. Lol. I thought the same. Keep positive.
Other than the hood's fit, I think this looks pretty good. I understand that you had to do some adjustments on bumpers and grille, maybe if you put a couple little "bumpers" under the hood to raise the leading edge, it would cover the hood fit issue.
Ride height complaints on these replica Chargers I always take with a grain of salt .... back in the day most people raised the rear suspension and it gave the front a lowered appearance. Looking at a stock Charger 1:1 today, I think they all look high in front.
I think it came out just fine. Stance doesn't look too off to me, its believable. I get very critical of my builds as well till they sit in the case a while and then I start to appreciate them a bit more.
Thanks Michael!!👍🏻👍🏻
Paint job grrrreat! I had a problem build that went on to win a first place at a contest. Go figure! Maybe they were able to see it & felt bad for me. Compensation bro, compensation!
Yeah some of those MPC kits from the 70s were the worst. I can’t believe how they would leave out any attachment points anywhere.
When I see folks looking at this kit I tell them it'll break their heart.☹️
I usually steer them towards the Revell '68 Charger or the Fast n Furious kit.
Yeha I used to build this model when it was the general lee. I remember they never fit that well. I just bought the country charger for old time sake
They say you can't shine shit but you did polished puke lol very nicely done
Almost gave up on mine winded up using a maisto grill from a broken diecast and a revell hood i sanded to fit so it sat better
you did a great job to me, it came out REAL NICE !!!!!
Looks good I never painted a model in silver.
Thanks Scott!!👍🏻👍🏻
@@modelcarvideos5829 I've built a 73 charger it's the big kit. I still have it it's sitting on my speaker
@@modelcarvideos5829 wish I could send a pic of it to you
Send to my email servosandstuff@yahoo.com
You make it what you think could be your best
👍🏻👍🏻
Man Matthew, it looks great to me. KUTGW buddy.
Thanks Jim!!👍🏻👍🏻
FYI, if you have the MPC City Slicker or Coca Cola Chargers in your stash, although curbside, are much better kits than the Country Charger. No fit issues I can recall except for the roll cage.
I just purchased this kit from the Hobby lobby at 40% off... For a Duke's car. Proper decal on the way. Will build it "dirty". 💪🏼😎
Very cool!!
Awesome build man!! Could you show us how you thin your paints down? would be greatly appreciated
Will do!!
You have done a spectacular job, from what I see. I have this model, I think by Revell and I received it as started, by some one doing the painting of parts (which I didn't know). I was appalled by the sloppy black paint job and my quest a few weeks now was to strip that black paint off everything. Three days in 99% alcohol just sorta softened the paint, not great. I finally used Graffiti Off and that wasn't all pleasant but paint (not plastic) did melt so that a rag could rub paint off. I like your Silver color, I thought of painting silver, but I wanted a "Jolly-Rancher" orange, like the candy, that of a dark pearl turquoise blue. I'll see how it goes. I however first piece together all parts before I glue. I turned my attention to and am currently building an F-14A Tom Cat, because I was fed up with that charger paint fiasco. Funny thing, I had purchased another 69 Charger by Revell, the special edition R/T 2 in 1 kit. I have a nice Pearl plum purple for it. Guess I'll learn from any difficulties involved in this 69 charger. Cheers..
you did the best i've seen of polishing a turd to look good lol
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻 That's about right! Lol
Still done a good job 2 thumbs up
Hats off to you for staying with it and not trashing it. Everytime I go back and build an old kit from MPC I day to myself why are you doing this? But I like the theme of it so I stay with it. The original Dukes Charger had the wrong rear window. It was the Charger 500 roof. I think it turned out fine. Question When you mixed the clear with the reducer what mix rate did you use? 50/50? Or something else
50 50
THE ONLY MPC I LIKED WAS THE 1977 BLACK BIRD, BUT YOU DID A GREAT JOB , IT LOOKS GREAT. POPE IVA. 🕊🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯🕊
Thanks!!
Charger looks great!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
Nice salvage of a kit from too old molds ! :-)
Thanks Patrick!!👍🏻👍🏻
looks pretty good mine ended up in the trash horrible lit
Thanks Gregory!!👍🏻👍🏻 yeah it was pretty rough!
Looks great from here.
Thanks!! That's a long way off!!
Yes,MPC kits really do suck! But sometimes in certain subject matters they are the only game in town. I have avoided this kit because of the price. You did a great job considering what you had to work with.
Thanks Ray!!👍🏻👍🏻
If you catch it on sale for 40% at Hobby Lobby, you can get it for about $18
I got this kit for Christmas! It was a nightmare! I’m probably going to throw it out!
Lol! It's pretty bad
Great job man, would of loved to see how you did all the fitment issues. Just subbed to you mate, look forward to watching your other builds ☺️👍🇦🇺
Thanks Will!!
These older kits can be a pain in terms of parts fit etc, but the subjects tend to be compelling and with tremendous effort, swearing or tossing them at the wall then putting them down for a while, in the end they're worth the effort. Congrats for your patience here, I like what I'm seeing here. BTW, I had some issues with the Revell 69 Charger, in that the hood won't close with the carburetor and air cleaner on. Any ideas how to resolve that?
I don't know, I have that kit so I'll know what to expect. Thanks
Hey man, it looks good, I have a Daytona Charger MPC kit, hopefully it used different tooling. Good job on this one!
Thanks Jethro!!👍🏻👍🏻
Hey mate, I built the mpc daytona and I am sure it is the same kit as I had the same fitment issues and a lot of difficulty with getting the daytona nose cone to line up correctly
@@adamgore215 Thanks for the information Adam, it’s nice to know going into it. I just won’t pick that one for a 48 hour group build. :)
The car does look bad (that front fender, ugh) but that color scheme with the silver exterior and tan interior looks great. It's an elegant tasteful look. Not looking forward to working on that General Lee I've got now.
Honey! ❤
You're too hard on yourself. This looks better than most kits I've built. My paint jobs NEVER look as great as that. Maybe the wheels were a little wonky but l doubt I'd have noticed if you didn't point it out.
I think all my cars will now be called ten-footers! lol ...
(I already have the 55 Vette kit).
jc
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
It looks great for being a pain in the butt to build.
This kit is %&$#! It happened to be the very first kit I ever attempted to put together. Bad idea. It had me thinking I was just bad at putting model cars together, until I searched this kit on YT (wishing I'd done that first). Nightmare, it turned me away from ever wanting to do any other model cars. lol
Anyways, commenting just to tell you, I saw one guy's video of him building this, he did a trick to get the front wheels to be low like they should. He cut the back piece so they would fit inside more (so the body fit over them). Wishing I'd knew that when building mine.
Btw, I carved and carved on my back bumper and it still never fit; and had a time with the black grills (?); carved and carved on them as well. Also, mistakely, I done a video of the one I did (just putting the body on the chasis), thinking it would just go right on. Nah. It was awful! It would not go on nice and smooth. Never again. lol But it keeps me thinking, just maybe I could do it better if I would it again.
Again, if anyone is interested in getting this kit to build a General Lee, then stay away! Get their snap kit instead, it is much much better! Their coke-cola snap '69 Charger is nice also with very nice decals! Thank you for making this video!
thanks for the heads up wow she looks all gooder to me ps criticism is based upon faults or mistakes i do not agree with being that guy its your car if someone else has a negative opinion about it so what like you said it was based upon you just having fun and im sure it will look good on the shelf duh your friend scooter
Thanks Scooter!!👍🏻👍🏻
Good looking car.
Thanks Big Charlie!!👍🏻👍🏻
Looks damn good from where I'm sitting and as far as your firing order bulshit looks good I'd like to see builds from those who mention oh s*** great job keep up the good work
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
FYI, the engine bay and firewall on Mopars is body color and the tail light panel would be satin black. Otherwise, nice job.
Not on my Mopar!!😉 Thanks Daniel!!👍🏻👍🏻
It looks good in the silver.
I dont have many problems others have with MPC. Yes details are almost non existent but they are good models and can be built to look good. These are old kits.
Looks good.
Thanks Brother!!
To answer your "question" Yes, this is the General Lee kit, it's also the original 69 Charger MPC Annual kit that was released in late 1968/Early 1969. So it's a 50some year old mold. I am curious how you got the nose on, my kit has a good 1/4 inch gap if you put the nose over to one side. It's a large enough gap that this kit is now my Auto Paint Mule.
looks great i like a good challenge
Thanks Robert!! It was very challenging!!👍🏻👍🏻
couldnt not watch again geez weve all had those in the ast somedays ya eat bear somedays hahaha two thumbs up for the vid thanks for sharin lubbed it catcha later scooter d
The fast setting solution that you use- can it be used on any glue, or is it limited to a certain kind?, and can you give me any tips on sparkplug wires, BTW it looks good- I have a 10' rule,- you have to stand behind the line when you come into my model central
It only works on super glue. I like the 10' rule!! Lol
Looks awsome
my 1st 2 mpc kits were a dukes of hazzard car and a 69 daytona and after seeing how they were molded and looked I knew I was never gonna buy another mpc kit ever again (and I have not) imo they are poorly molded with next to no quality at all ,yes with time, patience and skill you can turn em around but they are not worth it at all.with that being said you did do a good build here two thumbs up.
Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
