It's almost like- after he lost his memories- he looked into the mirror, saw his own face, his twin's face, and became him. Even without fully remembering him, he emulated yuichiro's words and actions that were so engrained in his memory from that year he spent alone with him. And only remembered himself because he started acting on behalf of others, like he and his parents before him used to.
That's exactly what happened
the back story is very sad but it all makes sense now that clearly Muichiro is slowly recovering from his memory loss, for example after he said that at 10 yo he lost both of his parents and was alone, he then paused for a bit and corrected himself by saying at 11 years old he was all alone because he had a twin brother who tragically died.
just a reminder: tanjiro said while talking to genya on ep3 that restoring the sword will take 3 days and 3 nights, and this whole arc up until this ep has only been 1 night

I'm under the belief now that the people behind the story said lets see how much we can get people to hate someone and then love them the most.
As soon as that demon showed up in the doorway, this became a horror anime. 😳

A brief explanation of the linguistics involved in this story: The 'mu' in Muichiro's name is 無 ... simply put, it means 'lacking' or 'there is not'. In Japanese, it's often prefixed to other kanji or words, where it functions much like '-less' on the end of a noun in English. So when Yuichiro is acting so coldly to his brother and says the 'mu' stands for 'muno', that means 'talentless' or 'incompetent'. He also uses 'muimi', or 'meaningless'. Just before he dies, however, Yuichiro admits that his brother's name stands for 'mugen', which means 'limitless', or 'infinite'.
Also, the horribly leaden feeling that Muichiro experienced after killing his first demon was very likely the effects of the adrenalin rush wearing off. That, combined with the trauma of his brother's death, might have been the cause of his amnesia.
The mark on Tanjiro’s forehead was similar to the original Sun Breather’s normal facial markings. After he beheaded Gyutaro and he did that Sun Halo Head Dance on three of the Emotion Upper Fours, the mark on his forehead reverted back to his normal scar pattern.
Yuuichiro did seem stronger than Muichiro. Can you imagine if he hadn’t died and had joined the Demon Slayer Corps? He could have been an even stronger Hashira than Muichiro. The twin Hashira would have been quite formidable.

In Japanese language, "Yuu" and "Mu" are opposite meaning. "Yuu" means "have", and "Mu" means "not have". That's why Yuu-ichiro called Mu-ichiro as no-meaning. But finally Yuu-ichiro said called Mu-ichiro as infinity which means limit "less".
can i just remind everyone that even tho' Muichiro is badass he is fighting upper 5 while Rengoku(R.I.P) fought upper 3 who is waaaaay stronger than these 2. My point is... i miss Rengoku Q.Q
Demon Slayer Mark. For one to awaken the Mark, one of the criteria they have to meet is surviving extremely life-threatening conditions, specifically, a heart rate of over 200 beats per minute (BPM) and a body temperature of over 39° Celsius (102.2° Fahrenheit), conditions which can prove to be fatal in most cases. Muichiro Tokito states that survival is the key difference that separates those that are Marked and those who fail to awaken it. It is implied that the bearer's physical arm strength is increased by around 100x after awakening the Mark, though it could be a hyperbole and thus the value could be much lower.

I didn’t get his backstory at first but I read a comment explaining it and wow.
I believe that maybe Muishiro and Tanjiro are both descendents of the first man that used a breathing technique so maybe that scar appears when they are at their prime or super concentrated. Also I think that Tanjiro can use the sun breathing technique is because his father taught him that dance and Muishiro used other technique but still quite powerful.
I guess the manga reading might laugh at my theory but until further episodes, I will keep it.

In the manga the mark appearing on Muichiro was Cyan to corespond to his sword color, and not red like Tanjiro’s. So i’m really hoping they’ll fix that and not do red marks for all of them, cause the marks having individual colors to the user looks better than everyone having red
The author has confirmed the marks will be red - the color of the breath of the sun because that is the origin. The fact that the imprints are colored is due to fanart not the author's
they all canonically have red marks, the other colours like cyan come from an extremely inaccurate colouring of the manga that has about a million different mistakes. they have all been shown as red in official material, there's nothing to fix.
