    Thanks for this. Adonis is one of the guys from this era who has always fascinated me - smart enough to try and smooth things over, but ruthless when required, like Lansky & Costello. The whole way it all came together - these young guys, all roughly the same age moving against the "mustache pete's" then creating something that went on to impact upon everyday life in the cities. I've read a fair bit about Adonis and this is a good capture of his life.

    Do a video on Bruce Lee. He was possibly killed by the Chinese Mafia because he broke his contract with them. He would have destroyed the movie business in China. Even the actors were in the Chines Mafia along with the directors. This made it possible to control the industry/ That's why Bruce made his other movies outside of China. The Bog Boss was made in Thailand, Fist of Fury I am not sure about, Return Of The Dragon was made in italy and Enter The Dragon was made in Hong Kong. When you run out of American Gangsters, try the Chinese.

  • @EricZuniga69
    @EricZuniga69 4 года назад +7

    Yeah he's really the least famous and the most mysterious of the founding members of the mob. Joe Valachi lists him as only a capo in Luciano Crime Family. But yet he wielded power above the other 4 families in NY. The way Luciano describes Adonis, it's like he's one of the bosses and should be above Genovese. So I really don't know....it seems like Adonis is more than a capo and is in equal footing with Costello in the Luciano's crime family??

    • @trinihammer
      @trinihammer 4 года назад +1

      eric zuniga, yeah luciano resented genovese so tried to portray adonis above genovese. valachi summed it right in saying that adonis was a capo but probably the most influential capo after costello who was acting boss. its rumoured that adonis fearful of the growing power of genovese was only too glad to be deported to italy thus clearing the way for genovese making his move on costello. also relationship between luciano and adonis broke down because luciano felt that adonis was negligent in allowing genovese to gain influence in the family after he returned to the USA from italy.
      be aware that there was this inner circle that included LUCIANO,COSTELLO,ADONIS,GENOVESE,LANSKY AND SIEGEL. who more or less forged organise crime as we know it today. adonis was part of that inner circle.

    • @EricZuniga69
      @EricZuniga69 4 года назад +1

      Yeah it seems Adonis is also above Mangano, Gagliano, Profaci, and Bonanno. He puts Costello and Adonis in the Syndicate Board of Directors like they have their own family. And it seems this Board of Directors in the 30s and 40s with Lansky, Lepke and Zwillman are even above the Commission of the 5 families of NY.

    • @trinihammer
      @trinihammer 4 года назад

      @@EricZuniga69 , there is a notion that LANSKY actually ran the mob through LUCIANO. LANSKY had the brains and the ideas but as he wasnt italian used LUCIANO to convey his ideas and plans obviously giving the credit to LUCIANO but really LANSKY pulling the strings.
      ADONIS was with the real power in new york the luciano family so in some cases he was actually more powerful than bosses of other 4 families ie mangano,lucchese,profaci and bonanno.
      ADONIS could have been compared to NEIL DELLA CROCE who was underboss to the all powerful CARLO GAMBINO in the late 60s and mid 70s. the gambino family was the most powerful at that time with the underboss aniello della croce being actually more powerful than the bosses of the other four families.

    • @EricZuniga69
      @EricZuniga69 4 года назад +1

      Cool!! I never knew Neil Dellacroce was that powerful also. You seem to know a lot of the history. The only thing I never figured was how Luciano at the height of his power along with Costello’s political might couldn’t buy the jury or judge against Dewey.

    • @trinihammer
      @trinihammer 4 года назад +1

      @@EricZuniga69 , you know that is a very good question but believe you me they tried but i think because luciano's trial was actually the first show mob trial in the history of the USA it was decided to make an example of luciano what with him being a foreign italian and all. To be honest who gets fifty years for being a pimp ?
      even when luciano was in prison LANSKY AND COSTELLO used every trick they could think of to get luciano out on either an appeal or technicality nothing worked they were stone walled at every turn. even when luciano used his muscle to help UNITED STATES in world war 2 LANSKY and COSTELLO didnt have the clout to stop luciano from being deported to italy much to the annoyance of LUCIANO. also as much as LANSKY tried he couldnt swing it for LUCIANO to come back illegally to UNITED STATES. it seems some much more powerful force in the USA government much more powerful than LA COSA NOSTRA wanted to stop LUCIANO at all costs.

    2 things not discussed, some said it was Joey A. who actually proposed the idea of creating the syndicate in NYC to avoid the wars. He was very smart and was tired of the concept of a single boss and all the killing for power. He recommended the family’s share responsibility and work together. Luciano and Lansky got the credit but many think it was Joey A brainchild. 2. Joe Kennedy leveraged the Mafia several times to benefit he and his family. The two most significant events were the Election and Cuba. The Mafia handed Kennedy the White House by paying for votes across many states, especially West Virginia which was vehemently anti Catholic. Kennedy also used the Mafia on an failed assassination attempt against Castro. Kennedy failed to return the favor to his Mafia friends on numerous occasions. Eventually Bobby decided in order to get rid of the connection and the burden of payback, he decided it was time to prosecute and jail them. Ultimately the Mafia got there revenge. There are many lesson here.

    • @trinihammer
      @trinihammer 2 года назад

      its true due to the fact that they were both similar ie VAIN. both gangsters were continually trying to out do each other to see who was the best looking and dresser.
      to be honest i dont see adonis as being a good looking guy but i was reading the autobiography of meyer lanskys daughter [sandra lansky] and she said in her book all the women thought that joey adonis was the best dressed and coolest gangster in new york thats women for you they obviously see something a guy like me cant.

    • @luke3807
      @luke3807 2 года назад

      Maybe some competition. According to author Gus Russo, Adonis told a reporter he ended his affair with Virginia Hill and passed her to Ben Seigel. So it sounds like they got along at that time.

    So was he a capo in the genovese family? Or did he have his own family? What was his rank and status?

    • @trinihammer
      @trinihammer 4 года назад

      adonis was a capo with his own crew of soldiers within what is now known as the genovese family but at the time it was known as the luciano family. i would say in terms of seniority at that time costello was the acting boss with both adonis and genovese on par second to costello. bear in mind that the luciano family at that time had about 20 capos each with their own crew of soldiers just goes to show how the two most powerful capos out of the 20 were adonis and genovese.

      He really predates that whole system, when Luciano formed the commission it wasn't necessarily about families it was about a system of gangs working together and Joe Adonis headed one up but was willing to take orders from Luciano out of respect

      +Evan Vaughn> Dewey makes the most sense. Ness' fame came mostly from TV's "The Untouchables." The show pitted constant battles between Capone and Ness. Ness never actually met or even saw Big Al. To be sure he knocked over a lot of Capone's stills and distilleries, and busted a lot of whiskey bottles slowing down Capone's operations, but these running machine gun battles and shootouts we saw every week with Capone? Didn't happen. Big Al got busted on tax evasion charges, and not from violating the Prohibition Act. Ness worked out of Chicago, but the show would have him pitted with some of the top bad guys from New York, mobsters like Charlie Luciano, Dutch Schultz, Mad Dog Coll, Legs Diamond, and some others. None of it was true. All fake stories because the show was so popular and had to continue. Now Dewey, for real, fought those guys, but not Ness. Ness was a good cop in Chicago, and untouchable, but he was NOT Bat Man like so many people think he was. Except for an occasional bribe of his men to leave their stills alone, many big time mobsters outside Chicago (and a little later Cleveland) probably didn't know who Ness was. Again, he never went toe to toe with Capone in a Gunfight at the OK Corral. Only on TV!

    i was going to say you missed talking about his explosive relationship with Ben Siegel, but know that I think about there's probably not that much to say. It's probably Ben Siegel who was hating on Adonis more, and he (Adonis) probably didn't care anyway making Bugsy more furious about the whole thing. Still a great video.

      I remember reading a while back a story about a eye witness to the 'Joe The Boss' murder seeing two young good-looking guys hanging around awkwardly together outside the restaurant minutes before the murder. That is an interesting question. I'm not sure if the idea of the made mad was fully developed back then. When he became an informant, Valachi gave us the ritual, but it appears to have been fairly exclusive to New York. I'm not sure if it even proceeded the settling of the five New York families. The Chicago Outfit didn't appear to have the same ritual, though a fealty vow was more than likely required. Not to mention, back in the 1920's and before, Mafia was exclusively Sicilian and Joe A. was a Neapolitan.

      +Bloodletters & Badmen That movie was way off, but Warren Beatty has always fudged the truth, he did it with Bonnie and Clyde. Bugsy and Bonnie both had a nice look to them. You wanted the bad guys to survive, plus there was a love affair which if done correctly really makes you care for the movie. Beatty has often said he needs to be romantically involved for the love affair to work on screen and it does. Not sure if Mikey Cohen was so brutal with Bugsy in real life.
