It's really hard for a beginner to understand people when they say to "learn the fundamentals" because no one can seem to agree on what the fundamentals are. I've seen well known artists create courses that start with you doing gesture, and then I've looked into other courses that start with simple things like learning to draw a straight line confidently (which feels like the actual first step). I wish the art community was a bit more agreeable on where beginners should start, because I'll say just getting started is a nightmare. It's as if I'm standing at a cross road with thousands of paths, and I need to commit to one path for the next 2 years not knowing if it's even a good path to take.

The thing that makes it so divided between people is that "fundamentals" covers such a HUGE amount of things, and every artist will tell you their personal "top fundamental" to learn first, also some people skip stuff like drawing confident lines etc. thinking that people are already doing that when taking courses. All in all i think the best way to tackle it is to spread out your learning to multiple fundamentals and always take 1 to 2 weeks for each, that way your art is gonna grow in all sorts of ways, even if its probably not the fastest way to get to a real master level, i think its the fastest way to get good enought to be satisfied with what you do. ( except you re like me and you re never satisfied with basically anything )

@@SekiBegins I'm starting with Drawabox, but I've been looking into finding something to supplement it with that focuses on digital art. Because I can already tell it's different. I can draw much more confidently on paper with a pen than on my Huion. I find increasing the stabilizer helps, but that kinda feels like cheating idk.

As someone who has been trying to get into drawing for years I have come to the conclusion that no one seems to know how to teach beginners. Every course and book I have come across wants to skip right into shading and anatomy. You are expected to already know how to do line art and sketches. It's insane!!
Everyone always tells you to start out with basic shapes, but never explain how you apply those shapes to make drawings. You are expected to figure out that sorcery by yourself.

@@Play-On7 I've been going through the lessons on Drawabox. It starts out with the raw fundamentals of being able to just draw a straight line. It's been pretty good so far. Might be worth looking into yourself.
