@JRPG W E E B That's true, but I don't think anyone is expecting Firefox to dethrone Chrome. That will never happen. Even at it's peak popularity, FF's market share was around 32%. Firefox has been my main browser since 2006. I still remember Firefox 2. Chrome is nice as a secondary browser with no extensions for compatibility as on rare occasions, a niche website compatibility issue can be with Firefox (most likely due to my numerous content-blocking extensions on it.)
I've been using it since before it was even FireFox. Remember when it was called Phoenix? Remember before that when it started as just Mozilla? Although, for a good decade or so I used Opera as my main browser, once they went Chromium they killed my enthusiasm for the internet. One of my favourite things about firefox is all your bookmarks, extensions, tabs, etc all are stored inside a single profile folder. If you want to move to different computer/OS/whatever simply copy and paste that folder, it's been so useful and saves a lot of time without having to setup everything from scratch.
A really good move from Firefox would be to provide their render engine easily to be integrated in other Programs. And while they're at it, also offer a Electron alternative with the Firefox rendering engine.
To start up a new Firefox instance with a specific profile the terminal command (on Windows you can also do this by pressing Win+R combination) is: "firefox -p " or for Windows: "firefox.exe -p ". You can then go ahead and keybind this script to your liking, e.g. I switch between multiple profiles via Alt+1, Alt+2, etc.
Or if you are on *Linux* - you can create completely separate firefox launcher menu instances based on your profiles, which you can later pin to your panel, home folder, etc. For example: Firefox (Profile 1), Firefox (Profile 2), Firefox (Profile 3) or whatever names you give them. You just have to manipulate the .desktop file. I've written detailed instructions on how to do that.

As for bookmarks I prefer to keep them in an external app like LinkAce so I can find them in any browser I want to use (after all, using multiple different browsers for different tasks is something you want to do). It's also easier to find the bookmark you're searching for since you can assign each link some tags and there's no need to navigate through folders anymore (and remember in which browser that particular bookmark is located).

You should have shown how to import passwords (about:logins), because if you just import the .csv file you need to change 2 parameters in about:config . The first one being signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled to 'true' and the other one being security.allow_eval_in_parent_process to 'true' . The first change shows you the 'Import from a File' in about:logins (click the 3 dots in the top right corner) and the second actually allows firefox to import it properly.
I remember growing up with Firefox back when I first started getting into building computers back in like 2003-2004. I hit everyone to switch to it since it ran Soo much faster than the old IE but back in 08 l switched to Chrome and never looked back. Now I’m kinda against most google apps and glad to see not only is Firefox still a thing it’s still good.
i’ve been a Chrome user my whole life, and once, i randomly decided to try out Firefox and didn’t regret it. although, now i use Opera GX, and can easily admit, it is the best one out there
A few tips from a long time firefox user: - a lot of the functionality that you were hunting in the hamburger menu is available in the right click menu - Try Multi-Account Containers as an alternative or addition to profiles. I'm using both. - If you want to select a profile on startup, start firefox with the -ProfileManager CLI flag. If you always want to do that, there's a checkbox there that you can uncheck, and it will ask every time, even without the ProfileManager option. - Enable annoyance lists in ublock. The web is full of trash nowadays, and these filters reduce it somewhat. - Google-owned sites will usually be slower or buggy. It's not that bad, I've accepted it. If it bothers you, you can still open chromium for google sites. - If you like switching tabs by scrolling, like chromium does on linux, just go to about:config and enable toolkit.tabbox.switchByScrolling. It also works on windows, unlike on chrome, not that it matters to me, but it might matter to you. - Firefox is superior on Android as well, not just on the desktop. Probably on iOS, too, but I've never tried that. Adblocker and Dark reader in a mobile browser, and it seamlessly integrates with firefox sync. I also like the address bar at the bottom, closer to my thumb, but that's configurable if you don't like it.
I believe (don't quote me on this, I'm not 100% sure, and please correct me if I'm wrong) that all iOS browsers are all Safari-based due to a requirement from Apple, so it wouldn't be much different from any other iOS browser
@@C_Yo The first part is correct, all browsers in the iOS App Store must use the Safari engine. But they can build their own UI for it, so sync and some of the features work there, too. I think adblock works as well, but probably baked in, not via ublock origin or a similar extension.
One thing that I think will be helpfull for some folks. For some (like me) huge annoyance in transition is behaviour of ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab. But dw, you can change it! To fix the behaviour to go left/right on the tabs list: settings -> general, in "tabs" section DE-select "ctrl+tab cycles through tabs in recently used order".
I use Firefox, but I also use Vivaldi a lot. Yes, it's chromium based, but it does not connect to your Google account. You can create a Vivaldi account (username and login password). But, all of your data is encrypted, and can only be decrypted by entering a separate, secondary password. So even if someone would manage to log into your account, they still won't be able to access your data. It's also the most feature packed browser I've ever seen . It has a very reliable built-in ad-blocker and tracker blocker. Also, lots of handy stuff like tab stacking, tab tiling, built in translation tool, LOTS of customization options, themes, and much, MUCH more. There is also a mobile version, that's also pretty good (at least on android, not sure about iPhone)
Been firefox user forever. I don't understand why many people even considered to switch to Chrome and back to Firefox again, I mean the privacy-conscious people. I don't have any experience with Chrome other than Brave (chromium based), so I can't compare Chrome vs Firefox. Anyway good vid as always.
@@rsh650 no sync without add-ons, pretty slow applying patches and releases, no search engine by default and there's no google (very important for the average user!), and you have to set up the Chromium Web Store (.crx) to install add-ons (not cool for newcomers).
For my friends who use Vivaldi for its gestures and can't imagine switching away from that: Firefox has excellent extensions for gestures that are highly customizable and about as capable as the ones on Vivaldi. You'll miss out on a lot of other features but this one is excellently covered.
Typing this from Firefox on Arch Linux. There is nothing now that I need Windows for, so I am completely free now. Heck, even VRR on multi-monitor Wayland works through Gnome with mutter-vrr patched. Bluetooth just works. Some don't understand, but I finally have full Linux function with my hardware. That was just not possible till recently.

Did it as soon as I saw your other video about Chrome axing V2. Only took about an hour to get everything exactly to my liking. I even made the switch on my phone. Haven't looked back since.
Well the lang something is made in really doesn't affect what it is capable of doing. Also mozilla, the co. of firefox, was the one that started rust lol
I dont deny that adblock still works, I have not read any contrary Informationen. But what i can tell you is that it has nothing to do with the programming language...that is an absurd idea
What are you people on about? Adguard already made a manifest v3 version of it's adblocker extension and I don't notice a different in its adblocking capabilities whatsoever and I can still hide any part of a webpage that I want if there are other annoyances or just things that I don't want to see on the page. It's currently experimental so it's early in it's development before a "final" release but it's working. Don't know about other extensions but adblocking works flawlessly.
The extensive customization alone is why I've never stopped using firefox. If I want to do something, whatever it is, very likely there'll a way to do it through firefox
The one thing I miss from chromium browsers is tab tiling. I hope there's a way to do that on firefox in the future so I can browse 2-4 websites in one window.
One of the feature firefox missing is the "responsive dimensions"/ "autofit" on the top in the "Inspect mode" of a website that chrome has. Just click and see different screens instantly. As a front end developer I can't live without it. I know that there is a button in firefox which shows different devices. But chromes implementation of this feature is so much better.
My biggest issue with fire fox is what happens when you got a lot of tabs open. its not a big deal to most people but annoying to me. also it does not remember where i left off most of the time is i have to go deep in my bowser history if my pc randomly has to reboot. there was one time when even the history got deleted. if they fix those things i will use firefox as my main browser.
Last week I transitioned from Chrome to Mozilla. Thanks for this video. I made a Firefox acc and now I can sync things. Thank you for informative video :)
I used (and loved) Firefox for YEARS before switching to Chrome, and it's been an interesting trip switching back. There's a lot I wish Firefox did better, especially in regards to how profiles are handled. Fonts and spacing look a little weird, and scrolling doesn't feel as buttery smooth as Chrome. Ultimately I'm making the switch back thanks to Google's push to DRM the internet with Chromium browsers, and Firefox is a lone voice against it. I just hope they see enough of a market share increase that they start adding in the features we're giving up natively. It's crazy to me how long Firefox users have been asking for better handling of profile switching with nothing from the devs. Even with this add-on (which I'm using myself), you can't pin different profiles to your Windows Taskbar without some registry hacks that really don't work very well.
I always learn something useful from your tech video's. I have been using FF for 10+ years now and I had no idea that there is a Profile section you can use. I just thought profile was that same as your main login account info. Thank you!
I've been using Firefox on and off since a few years before chrome launched. Also maimed chrome for years because of how integrated it was with even mid-2010s schooling (Chromebooks... school provided pseudo google accounts with the district domain?). Been using a combination of brave, Firefox, and less so opera more recently, leaning on and off of brave as needed.
The only thing I don't like about firefox is Brave search isn't an option for search engines, which I understand I guess Brave went through the trouble of making it they can have it exclusively for their browser. It strikes that perfect balance of search results not being filtered and the image search actually producing worthwhile results.
Dunno, mobile sync is important for me, judging by my usual browsing experience. Firefox really doesn't have a good mobile client, at least on Android, as I checked it last time. It's UI is slow and clunky af, and I hope they'll fix this in the future updates, cuz it's literally the only thing that stops me from switching to other browser.
glad to see that google is trying to help increase and revive firefox's browser market share :)

@@cucumbersandwitch has it gone down? Firefox used to eat a ton of ram .... Chrome used to be like that but they fixed it.
@@ashishpatel350 yeah, on my i3 with 8 gigs of ram I can have a ton of tabs open with no lag. And it uses the same amount of memory as Chrome so there's no reason not to switch
Been using firefox for years for its low ram use, I'm glad it's getting the attention it deserves
You should have shown how to import passwords (about:logins), because if you just import the .csv file you need to change 2 parameters in about:config .
The first one being signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled to 'true'
and the other one being security.allow_eval_in_parent_process to 'true'
.
The first change shows you the 'Import from a File' in about:logins (click the 3 dots in the top right corner) and the second actually allows firefox to import it properly.
I am also thinking something similar!
I switched to Firefox after you released that Manifest V2 video as well
I remember growing up with Firefox back when I first started getting into building computers back in like 2003-2004. I hit everyone to switch to it since it ran Soo much faster than the old IE but back in 08 l switched to Chrome and never looked back. Now I’m kinda against most google apps and glad to see not only is Firefox still a thing it’s still good.
I love firefox. I made my boyfriend switch from Chrome to Firefox, so now he's always promoting Firefox. He's adorable, I love him, and Firefox.
i’ve been a Chrome user my whole life, and once, i randomly decided to try out Firefox and didn’t regret it. although, now i use Opera GX, and can easily admit, it is the best one out there
A few tips from a long time firefox user:
- a lot of the functionality that you were hunting in the hamburger menu is available in the right click menu
- Try Multi-Account Containers as an alternative or addition to profiles.
I think adblock works as well, but probably baked in, not via ublock origin or a similar extension.
mobile Firefox on Android sucks. I tried to use it, but it just lacks that speed that chrome has
@@litLizard_ I like that new UI, but I'll admit, the new tab thing is annoying.
Unfortunately for last advice, it doesn't work. I only want Greasemonkey/tampermonkey installed
nice, just did it a few weeks ago, going smooth so far
@TommyGaming 🅥 erm, why would i want to know how to cook potato wedges? Its pretty easy you don't really need a tutorial.
Forgot the clickbait title: Google WON’T LIKE that you’re doing THIS 😂🔥
(THEY ARE MAD AT ME)(GONE WRONG)
Didn't know about the profiles & casting support, thanks a lot for sharing!
i think most of your audience probably knows how to install a program. but good stuff, very informative. been a firefox user since high school
You're overestimating me a bit, I still haven't found the any key on my hard drive.
I don’t
I watch this guy then I can one day upgrade from normie status to cultured like u guys
@@BuetifullPersun you're so adorable
Installation and configuration are not the same step.
@@rsh650 i like ungoogled chromium, but can't recommend it to the average user :(
@@rsh650 no sync without add-ons, pretty slow applying patches and releases, no search engine by default and there's no google (very important for the average user!), and you have to set up the Chromium Web Store (.crx) to install add-ons (not cool for newcomers).
For my friends who use Vivaldi for its gestures and can't imagine switching away from that: Firefox has excellent extensions for gestures that are highly customizable and about as capable as the ones on Vivaldi.
You'll miss out on a lot of other features but this one is excellently covered.
What features will I miss out on?
Been using firefox and it's forks almost exclusively for over a decade. For me it just works. Great piece of software.
Just switched a few weeks ago and tbh I’m loving it
>how to transition from Chrome to Firefox
it's simple, i never moved away from FF
definitely bookmarking this to switch over to Firefox on Jan 1st.
been a firefox user for 2 years, I love it🙂
@TommyGaming 🅥 go outside and touch some grass
@@Just-aGuy quite dated meme but still works I guess.
@@gøckłøłe there is 1 problem: can a script of a computer go outside? (Since that guy is a bot)
@@Just-aGuy Yes, just bring the computer outside, plug it in somewhere and connect it onto the internet.
if you wanted the computer to touch grass, just put it into the grass.
@@gøckłøłe genius
Was going to wait until Jan., but coming across your video (never heard of you before) inspired me to just make that switch now.
Did it as soon as I saw your other video about Chrome axing V2. Only took about an hour to get everything exactly to my liking. I even made the switch on my phone. Haven't looked back since.
never used any other browser and I don't know what is supposed to be broken about Firefox, always worked good enough for me...
Already did transition from chrome to firefox because your video you posted not long ago. Adds I do not like.
This couldn’t have come at a better time
Just putting it out there, Brave (chromium based) will still block ads because their stuff is written in rust
Well the lang something is made in really doesn't affect what it is capable of doing. Also mozilla, the co. of firefox, was the one that started rust lol
@@litLizard_ LMAO yeah i'll never forgive them for that. it was the best mobile browser i swear.
it's nowhere near as good as ublock origin but yes it will block ads
I dont deny that adblock still works, I have not read any contrary Informationen.
But what i can tell you is that it has nothing to do with the programming language...that is an absurd idea
kenny is literally making “how to transition” tutorials
I just switched a couple of weeks ago. This video is perfect timing. Thank you.
Same here lol
I'm using firefox for a long time and some of these features are pretty good, thank you fish enjoyer
I too enjoyed transitioning, my chrome to Firefox switch worked great too!
What are you people on about? Adguard already made a manifest v3 version of it's adblocker extension and I don't notice a different in its adblocking capabilities
whatsoever and I can still hide any part of a webpage that I want if there are other annoyances or just things that I don't want to see on the page. It's currently
experimental so it's early in it's development before a "final" release but it's working. Don't know about other extensions but adblocking works flawlessly.
Instructions unclear: I did set a fox on fire, but I don't see hamburger menu, I suspect I need to go to the McDonald's?
The extensive customization alone is why I've never stopped using firefox. If I want to do something, whatever it is, very likely there'll a way to do it through firefox
Already did many years ago. I moved to firefox in all my devices, as it supports ublock origin in all devices!
i completely migrated from chrome to opera GX, im lovin' it so far
Thanks for this video, I use Firefox since forever but this will come in handy when one of my friends want to switch from a Chromium browser!
100% agreed about casting. Far better to download and watch it that way. I've got a Pi attached to my TV for easy watching.
Now I can share this video with all my friends
Been using Firefox forever. It's a good solid browser.
One for the normies!
Good stuff, more FF footprint is good for us all!
Awesome! Just installed Firefox after so many years! No better time than now to leave chrome behind.
I used google chrome for the longest time, then I used brave for a year or two and now im currently on firefox. I am very happy with firefox.
This is a great video for anyone who still needs to switch to the better browser. Although I hope you do a few more Ice Cat and Libre Wolf videos. :D
Even with this add-on (which I'm using myself), you can't pin different profiles to your Windows Taskbar without some registry hacks that really don't work very well.
chrome junkies are gonna regret it. Time to download Firefox.
I always learn something useful from your tech video's. I have been using FF for 10+ years now and I had no idea that there is a Profile section you can use. I just thought profile was that same as your main login account info. Thank you!
Lol, I just switched 2 days ago. Its so fast and efficient but full of features. 10/10
I love penguins too! They have an amazing taste! 😀
Thank you :D
You can add it as an option
I use brave search on Firefox
You can use the scroll wheel/middle mouse button on links and bookmarks to open them in a new tab, no need to use the new tab button.
