  • This video builds on the previous to outline how waveguides with a linear, homogeneous, and isotropic (LHI) dielectric fill are analyzed. Field components Ex, Ey, Hx and Hy are written in terms of just Ez and Hz so that it is only these two field components that have to be solved through differential equations. That solution can be substituted into those expressions to get equations describing Ex, Ey, Hx and Hy. For LHI media, the differential equations for Ez and Hz separate into two independent sets of differential equations and this is the origin of TE and TM modes.
