Great video! My s10 is at almost 290,000 miles, and with your videos I have been able to successfully change my plugs, wires, cap and rotor, as well as my radiator and the turn signal/hazard switch on my own, saving a ton of money. Thanks again!

This just saved me $100's. Cost me $50 to replace the distributor cap and rotor with your perfect explanation (made it a cinch), and it fixed my P0300 multiple misfire issue. Runs great now. Cannot thank you enough.
+Will Black Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
@The3dperez What you can do is (this is a great little trick), get a spray bottle full of water start the truck up and kind of mist the plug wires and rotor, if the rotor or a wire is arcing out you should see it using the water. Hope this helps.
Thanks a million! I love these how to videos that teach instead of me having to pay someone.
the BEST advice Ive seen online for ANY industry thus far. I tip my hat to you Sir, and thank you for your detailed videos! saved me tons of $

Thanks for all your help. Your video's have made many repairs easier and saved me a ton of cash
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this. Your video gave me the exact information I needed to replace my distributor cap and rotor with no problems. The hardest parts were sitting on the engine to reach it (I'm 5'1") and that blasted back screw. Well done!
+Shannon Keith Thank you! We are happy we were able to assist you.

Gotta say it chief"You know what your doing!"I`ve been watching your vids for the past 2 months now.I`ve saved a bunch of money just watching your videos and doing my own repairs.I have a 2001 LS Chevy Blazer with the 4.3 liter vortec V/6.I`ve changed out the fuel filter and Spark plug wires this past weekend.I see why you don`t show on the video how to disconnect the clips for the wires, because it was a B***h.It took me about 2 hrs. just to change out the wires,Runs 100% better than when I first bought it.I will be changing out the distributor and rotor this weekend.Afterwards I will be changing out the cheap ac delco spark plugs with the "Torque Master" Spark plugs. Thumbs up!
350toocute heuehhxhdhf
I have the same but a 2000. No difference that I can tell lol... Do I need a timing gun or is there any trick to getting it back in correctly without breaking my truck? Lol
@MrMacrun You can replace the coil while the cap is off. The distributor doesn't need to be removed.
Thank you so much. I will post results here...when I get around to getting under the hood. Kinda nervous...I've never even changed my own oil. Very pathetic...but I'm feeling inspired...and don't wanna pay an xtra hundred for something that looks so simple. Plus, chicks dig grease. Everyone recommends ACDelco parts...which you sell...at a fair price...so I'll come to you when it's time to buy. Thanks again 1aauto.com...very happy to find u!!
@yz100f I would replace any faulty plugs or spark plug wires first, as this may solve the issue for you.
@yz100f If you have haven't tuned the truck up in a while, you may also want to change the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. This may also get you truck running smoother if any of these things are worn.
@TheChev98 If you haven't yet, you may want to change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in a while. There could be something in it constricting the gas flow to the carb.
@ramaffei I generally replace the rotor when I replace the cap. One way to tell if you need wires is to run your car in the dark and see if you see any arcing or sparks jumping from the wires to the engine. Otherwise replacing plug wires at 100K miles is a good idea, 50K if you are really fanatical.
@eiphone02 If it hasn't been tuned up in a while you may want to start with replacing the plug wires, distributor cap and rotor it may help it to start better if they are getting worn.
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me change my distributor cap and rotor. After changing it, it started right up!
Engine was cranking but not turning?
@yz100f You may want to check the EGR valve to see if it needs to be replaced. If it tends to jump or lurch forward while at stop, this is also a sign of a faulty EGR valve. Hope this helps.
Y'alls vids are great! Thanks so much for doing these. Just had to do this and spark plugs on my 97 Blazer. Never done it before but these vids were a huge help. Thanks!
did this last week along with replacing the spark plug wires, runs smooth, thanks 1aauto.
Man that's wayyyy easier than I ever thought! Thanks so much!!
You will want to mark the position of it, so that the timing is correct when you place it back in.
@TheChev98 Here's a video that we did that will show you how to take the spark plugs out of your jimmy. ruclips.net/user/1aauto?feature=mhee#p/search/4/_pHjATMUfUA
Thanks for the tutorial. I wish your website would work for me. This is my 3rd attempt to use it resulting in failure. Only seems fair to buy the part from you. Would if I could.
@yz100f If it does this once the truck heats up you may want to check the catalytic convertor to see if it's clogged.
@joshuaforth You may want to start with the simple things first such as the spark plugs and wire's and yes the cap and rotor too, to see if they need to be replaced.
@abe76090 The serpentine belt tensioner may have lost some of it's retention. You may want to check it and see if it needs to be replaced.
@yz100f Sometimes they can become brittle over the years with the heat of the motor.
@yz100f You may also want to make sure that the catalytic convertor isn't clogged under the car.
@djgarcia95 It may resolve the issue.Sometimes it could also be a bad spark plug, wire, or rotor too. Hope this helps you out.
@timmyodirtbikerider You may want to check the plugs to see if the truck has spark to them.
Pro tip for people when reinstall use die electric grease makes it easy going on and coming off later
@MileyCyrus192 Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel on RUclips. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.
@joecoolmustang You may want to check the cap and rotor for condensation.
I just bought a 98 blazer with 102,750 miles on it. A few days later the car starts stalling while on the highway. I would pull over and restart the car and it would go again for another mile or so before stalling again. I changed alternator but still happened. I’m going to change distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires today. Hopefully this works
If there happens to be a check engine light on in the vehicle, you may want to have the code pulled, it should point you in a direction as to what might be causing the issue. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
It may, depending on what component is causing the issue.
@FxOxC Those P03XX are headaches. I had the same problem on a 93 Blazer. Turned out to be a bad computer. But that was just my vehicle. I have seen it be simple stuff like a bad distributor cap, to a bad computer, could be a fuel pressure regulator (although probaly not if you car runs OK even for a little bit) . I wish I could be of more help but like I said that trouble code is trouble.
Nice job. Thank you for posting. This was very helpful.

@vawxs Sorry we don't have that video right now.
It sounds like you may be describing the wire loom that holds the plug wires in place. They should be fine.
man, i was sweating having to set at top dead center like in older cars. i slather all electrical connections with dielectric grease. am i over doing it? awesome vid by the way! thanks for sharing sir!
Grateful for your videos, Thanks.
looks super easy... great video!!!
+Eloy Arguijo Thank you for watching. Please let us know how the repair comes out! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
It would more than likely make the vehicle run rough more than anything.
@joecoolmustang Spray the new wires and cap with some water from a spray bottle to see if anything is arching out. It's possible to have a bad wire right out of the box.
It could be. You may want to take a look at it. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Thanks for the video. I replaced mine on my 2009 s-10 and the only difference was that the screw on backside of cap was #15 while the front one was #20 so needless to say it took a while to figure out if it was stripped or had crud in it. Not sure if someone used wrong screw previously or not.
You could try to replace the cap and rotor first.
thanks for the video, im going to do this to my jimmy this weeked
I have a 00 sonoma with a 4.3 and when im driving between 40 and 50 mph and the rpms are between 1500 and 1750 it bogs down real bad. Do I want to change just the cap and rotor or do I wanna do plugs and wires also?
I have same issue friday i am replacing cap rotor and sensor
love your videos ..thanks for them ..helped me out big time

If I took off the distributor and rotor cap and timing chain which way should my timing gears be facing (dot wise) and which way should my distributor be facing ???
Thanks 😊
How do you know if the cap and rotor are bad I did my fuel pump and new tank still no start I’m hoping it’s this
yea thats what it is LOL! didnt know the name. It had to have been touching it before but when I changed it I noticed that. It doesnt seem to get really hot just didnt know if it was ok. I dont see another way to make it not touch it tho. Thenk you
Ok, Thks Men from La Paz Bcs (Mexico.)
Changed fuel pump and filter. Getting stuttering while driving. Getting worse. P300 code. Should I start with spark plug n this??
'03 Blazer LS 190,000miles- it'll crank, chug, & sputter, but never starts....I'll throw $50 in parts at it and see if this fixes the issue. I'm sure it's still the same pieces from when it rolled off the assembly line 😂
Question: my '00 Blazer turns over but doesn't start in damp/rainy conditions...especially if cold. It's baffled several LA mechanics. But some friends mentioned changing the D. Cap as it may have a crack. Would you recommend changing the rotor too?...and wires?? Or can I start with cap only?
Thank you!!....this video will help immensely!!
You think I have a bad cap I have spark from the coil but not from the cap?
Exactly what I needed. Thanks. Great job. What is a bank sensor???
+randyy1964 Thank you for watching. In some vehicles there are bank 1 or bank 2 sensor 1 and sensor two. This will indicate which side of the engine has the cylinder which fires first. 1aauto.com
Very helpful! Is it a good idea to change out all the wires as well?
+Danny Herrera If the wires are old, it would be a great time to change them. 1aauto.com
Gracias amigo por el tip
thanks for this excellent video - my blazer with 4.3 runs fine except there's a loud rattle under distributor cap especially when warming up.. then goes away - is this the distributor bearing going?
Way easier than the starter!! I hate the damn starter on these >_>
Hello, I have a problem with my Blazer 4.3 LT year of manufacture 2001, I hope you can help me.
The vehicle drives one day without any problems and one day later it has misfiring while driving and then goes out, starts normally again and then goes out again, the whole thing then goes on for a while until it drives normally again at some point, you know what it could be.
Thank you in advance and greetings from Germany
What does that white little thin wire run to just before you reach over to the rotor button on a 1998 Chevy Trailblazer
can you do a video on replacing the intake manifold gasket on a 03 chevy s10 Xtreme pick up 4.3L V6?! I have coolant leaking on the intake manifold which i belive the gasket is worn out. what kind of gasket replacement did you use? what is the best replacement, a metal gasket, the stock gasket, or an aftermarket gasket?
I have a 1994 gmc sierra 2500. The spark plug wires have a ton of clips holding them and they run from a metal strip bolted to the engine. I did the plugs and wires and noticed that they were not changed. I also noticed that one or two laid against that metal strip with the plastic holder connected. I ran the engine for a while to see how hot it got and it didnt get hot like the other things. will this metal burn through the wires or is it designed not to and just to hold them?
1 more question please about my 99 gmc jimmy 2 wheel dr. the abs thing on the metal part on the front that faces the air filter has a bleeder valve looking thing that leaks when i press the brake. how can i patch it or replace it without replacing the whole unit? i cant find info on that part anywhere and have looked for a few years now, thanks.
@1aauto Ok, I replaced the cap and rotor, And checked the wire's still good no wear at all. But The motor runs better but still struggles and backfire but not as bad now. it kind of solved it half way. but still has that struggling and a small backfire. but not as bad as before. I'm Lost now any more idea's on what to check next? Thanks so much for the info you're very helpful.
It only took me 35 min to replace the cap and rotor on my 98 gmc sonoma 4.3 v-6
Joshua Forth
can you change the pickup coil while the cap is off? or does the distributer have to come out? having hard starts. but when it does start it runs fine.
Do you know if a 2000 Chevy S0 ZR2 with the V6 engine has a port anywhere for a hand-held diagnostic tool such as Autel's MaxiScan? Thanks.
Do you have any videos on how to replace the entire distributor? -- I'm trying to replace the distributor drive gear
obrigado por passar o conhecimento, gostei muito da marcação nos cabos
pra não se perder na hora da montagem ... valeu obrigado!!

does new rotor have brass contacts as opposed to aluminum ? brass last s longer ? true ?
Could the distributor cap and rotor cause your vehicle to stall when hitting a bump?
THANX
I have a sputtering issue, cat is getting replaced, but should i replace distribution block or ignition coils too?.
I had a code to replace o2 sensors so I replaced all 3. Now engine runs horribly and I'm getting a p0300 random misfire code. Are the 2 related? Can a new cap and rotor fix this? Engine light keeps blinking. I should note that I went from a full tank of gas to less than a quarter of a tank In a very short time of driving and when I use the accelerator to speed up at stop lights, huge plumes of black smoke come out of exhaust. Update... new cap and rotator did Not fix the issue...
What if I snap off one of the rotor screw's flush?
I need help. I did this and replaced that cap, distributor, and adjusted the timing but am still getting P1345 code and only 2 days later it violently shakes when starting and stalls at times. I see I cannot rotate that cap to adjust it and am not at a loss. What can it be? P1345 is the only code that keeps coming up.
i have a 99 tahoe 5.7 with a p0300 code multiple misfire a mechanic told me to replace all parts usung AC delco and that would fix the problem. I got a new coil cap rotor plug wires sparkplugs air filter and it still has the same problem runs rough i turn it off an start it up runs good again for a few min then sputers again help me if you can
how are you supposed to reach those screws?
As easy as that looked, mine was not that simple. The whole distributor had to be replaced because it's bearing went bad. When I started it up, it sounded like a swarm of bees was under the hood. When I turned it with my fingers, it sounded like a duck. Cost me $530 to have it replaced.
The veido was helpful but all the screws on my rotor and cap where T15's
Is the ICM located under the rotar in this particular model?
Hi Mike,
My 98' 4.3l has a sputter when it is damp, or wet out. I have been told that i need to replace the cap/rotor. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
I have a 96 Gmc sonoma v-6 vortex 4.3L, it has a misfiring problem speficially P0300 random misfiring. It is a , It was was running rough for a well and Today i went to check the wires and plugs, the wires and the plugs are good(reset the gap). i did each one a time and when i was done with cylenders 2,4,6 i fired the engine up and it was running rougher than it was before, and the check engine light flashes. Would replacing the cap and rotor stop the random misfire codes. no other codes read?
How do you know that the spark plugs and wires dont need replaced also?
hey bud do you have any videos that show how to take out the ignition control module from a 94 s10 4.3 ?
HI Phil, We currently do not. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
1A Auto Parts please make it!!!! I have to do mine, I know it's under the distributor....which is why I watched this, but needed a view of where distributor was removed from..... thanks
I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!! =o my 1997 gmc 1500 5.7 has had a chugging feeling mainly down the freeway.. about 60+ you can really feel it, it felt like a tiny misfire but now last night it totally kicks and bucks im thinking either valve adjustment because i can hear a tiny click from valves or its my cap and rotor.. i need help because im sick of wasting money on the wrong part.. it also showed a misfire on cylinder #2..
I Have a 98 GMC Somoma 4.3 V-6 When I Start it up and go to put it in drive and give it gas. The Engine Does not want to go and struggle to get going and backfires and does this for about 1 mile or If i back off the gas and then it goes like it has no problem. But Only Does This When I start it up every time.
Can You Help Me Out On What I Might Need To Replace. Maybe The ICM OR Distributor Cap And Rotor?
Thanks Joshua.F
Don't you have to set the timing and/or have the cap and rotor in a certain position? My 97 safari is running really rough, shaking and stalling... feels like the fire timing is off. How would you adjust timing?
+Nube Toob If you follow this video and put the new cap and rotor on as shown, you should be fine. You could put a timing light on your van to see if the timing is correct.
.........CAUTION....YES THE SCREWS STRIP OUT EASY ...AND ARE MOST LIKELY ALREADY STRIPPED......you need to drill out the holes to fit a good sized sheetmetal screw or drill and tap for a larger machine screw....this will show up as a slight to essessive wiggle when moving the cap by hand....it will cause very bad cap life and bad fuel mileage, maybe even odd symptoms
