I love that wood bathroom. I wish I had one just like it. I also wish I had all those shaving supplies 😂😂. I'm getting there though. I got a couple Gems from your recommendation and a Rolls Razor. That Rolls, I tell you, you are right sir. That razor is just perfect to me. It's been an everyday driver for me. I wish you'd come back to RUclips and give us more videos but I'm sure you got important things to take care of. God bless.

Great shave and great information. The camera angle you used during the shave was unique and worked very well. I think you're onto something there. You might just cause a revolution in how RUclips wet shavers film their shaves. Take care and all the best.

Hi John after watching your video I was ready to pluck up courage and give my Rolls a go this morning, and wow it was fantastic, if a little nerve wracking!! I gather that during ablutions in WW2, in the RAF here, it was common to hear the click- clacking of a Rolls being sharpened. Ingrams shaving cream was also a popular choice at the time. Thanks for your really interesting and thoughtful videos, kind regards from the UK

Great video. Due to lost luggage I'm strictly carry on now. Been trying all sorts of bar soaps to shave with to reduce my carry on. I hadn't tried Palmolive yet but will pick up a 3 pack tomorrow. Thanks! You're right, the Ivory breaks down too much and that was ADVERTISED as a shave soap.

I mainly use straights but also bring my DE's out for a spin around the block from time to time.
But hey, it's hard to beat the rolls when you need a little lift in spirit, a little razor with a lot of soul.
I will have to give myself a treat and get mine out for a blast of the past after watching this.
I have two sets I picked up cheap on ebay, it was cheaper two buy a second one rather than a spare blade.
Underestimated little gems they are in my opinion, great workmanship also.
Good upload, Palmolive is great for the price, cream or stick.
Over here in Ireland is easy to find in stores.

Always great information and history on shaving equipment and technique. You had to have done a lot of antiquing or surfing on the web for your collection. God bless shave on!

I would think that most of the remaining tallow based bar soaps could do in a pinch. I've tried Zest (I was breaking in a badger brush), and it created a good lather. I haven't tried the Palmolive bar soap, but I have some, and will likely give it a whirl at some point. I think that a lot of the wide-blade SE razors could be considered a transverse straight razor. They certainly have a different feel than your average DE. Thanks for showing us how the whole system worked with the Rolls, as many of us probably will never see one in person.

I have two rolls razors, one of. Which is in mint condition with the cardboard cover box it came with, but my jewel is the rolls razor shaving soap dish which I think is Bakelite and is very nice
Johnsons baby soap is great for shaving too

Goodness John, you really have some wide selection of SE razors, excluding that of DE razors. I have learnt an awful lot from your videos over the years about wet shaving (technique, products, interesting history behind "classic" wet shaving tools), and I still enjoy re-watching your older videos...often showing what you have yourself picked up & learnt over time.
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos.
    Cheers
    p.s.
I like how you pronounce, "llllove it..." in your part of the world....I'm based in the UK :)

I'm intrigued: if this is a regular bar of *hand* soap and you have just managed to have a jolly good shave with it, then this is quite a thing. I've been under the impression that ordinary hand soaps just aren't fit to shave with, because the make of such soaps is harsher than on-purpose shave soaps. Yet, going by looks, you appear to have had a very decent shave.
Just trying to think whether Palmolive hand soap bars are even available in the UK.
May I ask, what exactly is this Palmolive bar called? What does it say on the packaging?
    Thanks, very interesting try!

Simply "Great Value Soap Palmolive Classic Scent" It's made in the US but Colgate-Palmolive has numerous facilities around the world and I'm sure brands the same products a little differently for the various markets. Palmolive Shave Stick is made in Germany. This soap is generally sold widely in packs of 3 or more as a bargain soap for about $1 a bar.

MadScientist .OfWetShaving I thank you for coming back. I am quite impressed by how you made it work for you. I will look for it here. Even if not available on the regular, chain supermarket self, I'm sure smaller value shops should stock it.
      Once again thanks

I hope you or John does not mind me chirping in but to answer your question, it will last a lifetime if not over honed or mistreated.
That information I have been lucky to get from lifetime users.
If you use it as I do in a rotation with other razors, I mainly use a mixture of straights and DE's with the rolls making the odd trip around my face, the wear is minimal on all razors used ( spreading or sharing the load )
      Variety, the spice of life.
      Hope this helps.

Hey John I was wondering where did you find those spare blades and case? I have been searching high and low for a seven day set.
