  • Divergence Exotropia, also known as "divergent strabismus" or "exotropia," is a type of eye misalignment condition where one eye turns outward and away from the nose while the other eye is straight or turns inward. It commonly occurs due to an imbalance in the muscles that control eye movement, with the eye muscles responsible for pulling the eye outward being relatively stronger than those responsible for bringing the eye inward. It often leads to double vision, difficulty in focusing, and problems with spatial perception. Divergence exotropia can be treated through a combination of vision therapy, corrective lenses, and surgical interventions in some cases.
Simulated divergence exotropia is an eye misalignment condition that occurs when the eye movements are simulated to appear as if the individual has a true divergence exotropia, but in reality, there is no actual eye deviation present. It can be caused due to the anomalous retinal correspondence and can be confused with actual exotropia, making accurate diagnosis challenging.
