- Peter Vaughan gets an exclusive opportunity to test the prototype of Adria’s new top-of-the-range campervan, the Twin Max 680 SLB based on the MAN TGE.
It has a super-sized bedroom with single beds that converts into a huge garage area. The lounge offers superior comfort and maximum daylight and there’s lots of new contemporary design inside this extra-long (6.84m) camper.

Thanks Peter, great review as always. Can't help but think that they should have started with a 600 (6m) model first, with an optional pop top as it might capture more people looking to upsize from a Transporter or small campervan. Going to a 6.8m long 4 tonne van is quite a jump in one go, especially if you have to take a C1 test too.
I think this aimed more at folk trading up from Adria's existing Fiat Twins, especially for the far superior MAN base vehicle.
I look forward to seeing the 6m version, though.
I love the full flyscreen and total blackout blind for the back doors. Other converters should take note.
Love the sky lights lots of natural light coming in this looks nice camper 👍🏽👍🏽
For a van of this size the kitchen counter space is very small even with an extension which seems to be awkward to set up each time.
It's quite typical of continental fixed bed campervans. At least the extension feels sturdy
To say that this is 6.8 metres long and has what appears to be a ginormous wheelbase, the ‘bathroom’ and kitchen look minuscule and cramped respectively. A compromise enforced by a lengthwise bed, I guess, in turn enforced by the limited width of the chassis for sleeping across. Great looking interior design elements and nicer than average dinette, but hard to see how these advantages would offset the clear space/ manoeuvrability drawbacks. The 6m Ducato-based Twin layout is a classic for a good reason - the chassis enables such a good compromise of living space against vehicle footprint and agility.
These longer 'vans are becoming more popular but 6m is a great size and a 6m MAN Twin Max is coming - they'll use flare panels on the side to give the necessary bed length across the van.
@@MotorhomeCampervan Which will look/ feel like a kludge…
You can’t eat the Ducato’s lunch in van conversions with a van that’s simply longer/ taller/ better to drive. The packaging needs to be right. It seems like such an obvious oversight in the designs of the much newer Sprinter and Crafter chassis not to have made them a bit broader at ‘bed height’ - with knock on benefits in kitchens/ bathrooms. But perhaps the leisure market just doesn’t have the volumes for those products to make such considerations worthwhile.
Looks fantastic and that transformation to the rear bed and garage is brilliant with lots of room. Still the bathroom has let this conversion down. As you say it's a bit tight for space. For the price I would go for the wildax altair RS. All electric habitation. Even though the front lounge area is a bit poor and not as good as the adria. Great video 👍
I'm not so sure about going all electric on the habitation side, as you need HUGE battery power to use an induction hob regularly and I'm not so keen on microwaves. I'd rather keep gas for cooking.
Agree with the gas cooking. One can always get a camping gas stove which would be ideal to store in both the adria and wildax altair. Wouldn't be to keen on induction hob for cooking either. I always thought the MAN vehicle looked very low clearance at the back. Maybe some rear air suspension Wouldn't go amiss
Do people buying a two berth actually use the rear travel seats?
If the answer is no I'd go look at that Bailey Endeavor 62.
Quality of the furniture not great but it's a fair saving and more maneuverable.
it's good to have the versatility of extra travel seats. If you're sure you don't need them there are plenty of rear lounge options
@@MotorhomeCampervanI was thinking the same. For some couples maybe it occasionally doubles up as the 2nd car or they just like the layout.
Different sort of vans I know, but compare this in value, space and general living with the Swift range you premiered a couple of days back. MAN/VW premium worth £20k? Still I enjoy the reviews so keep them coming.
Not really a fair comparison. If you look at Swift's Carrera campervans they cost more than the (much larger) Voyager coachbuilts. It's down to build costs.
I'd happily pay £10k, maybe £15k, more for a MAN over a Fiat, though.
@@MotorhomeCampervan 😊 What about a Ford Transit though?
The collision sensors on the side are a good idea. Have you ever pranged a van while you have been testing it (and if so, is it on video?)?
No, not for many many years, thank god (hope that's not tempting fate)!
Love this (even if a lot of people replying on here dont seem to). But I know my wife would say what about plugging in the kettle and what about doing her hair in the bathroom?
Can I ask a daft question - does the diesel heater also heat water (for shower, etc)?
Yes, the diesel Combi is also the boiler as well as blown-air heating
@@MotorhomeCampervan so gas just for cooking (and when we have hook up don't even use that). Cheers.
We have the twin supreme, I’m watching this and wondering where the extra space is 🤔
Nothing appears to be gained in the living, bathroom or kitchen area . Is it just a bigger bed /garage ?
Very little appears to be gained over the fiat .
We can stand at the washbasin too .
The MAN has a longer 'nose' so you don't gain the full half-a-metre length inside. The Twin Max definitely wins in the garage/bedroom area, which seems to be the emphasis.
I'll be v interested to see the 6m MAN when that comes out.
Well Peter another professional review of what is an outstanding van. But (there’s always a but or two) The freshwater tank at only 70L is too small, the gas cylinder size looks like the one Calor have stopped, and it’s to small. Having to sit down to was your face is not ideal. I prefer the option of single or a double bed. An oven would be a must. I don’t fancy at 69 buying a van that cannot be driven on a normal driving licence. But I do like this van, far superior to what auto sleeper offered up. But for the reasons given it’s not for me.
Thank you.
A 6kg Calor cylinder should fit and you won't need more as it only supplies the hob.
I Would like to see what size TV there Expecting to fit behind those seats
About 19 to 21in is usual
Another excellent balanced review, for the size of the van there were too many negatives, certainly imho. Review spolit by the so many breaks for adverts.

Beautiful van, and I agree with the others, why have a flawed bathroom when everything else is pretty spot on.
Just the relatively narrow base vehicle, I think, and not compromising the aisle too much
Do you know if they are planning on producing a pop top 4 berth?
Not yet, I don't think. Have you seen my video of the Dormobile Ballintrae? ruclips.net/video/W6STF26yQLQ/видео.html
Also, Adria already does the Fiat Twin Sports with a pop-top, so the concept might come on the MAN, too, but not yet.
ruclips.net/video/rIxoGaSXpqY/видео.html
Most people would expect a couple of good sized lithium batteries and say a 3000w inverter to be off grid. Knaus Boxlife is probably a good option
The Boxlife is a good 'van; the BoxDrive even better, but Adria does a great job too with its Twin (and now Twin Max) range. Lithium batteries and inverters are usually expensive upgrades.
Great van Peter, bathroom seems to be a compromise and should be interesting to see how a van at nearly 100k sells in the current financial crisis. Cheers K.
Sadly, more and more models are £100k but the demographic is not the one most effected by rises in mortgages, electricity bills, etc.
Love it 😍
Not sure if I missed something.....is there no wardrobe hanging space? I do like the light, and the freshwater, but I don't think I would be able to shower in that tiny space. Shame. And the kitchen is disappointing. Oh well. Still looking then!
Maybe you'd prefer this? - ruclips.net/video/SpgAf-5vxi4/видео.html
@@MotorhomeCampervan fab suggestion! Thank you. What a van the Darwin is. Stunning! 😍
Can manufacturers think of anything more than improving percieved quality and increasing prices? When will there be something new ?
There's only so much you can fit in a panel van. The bedroom/garage is a bit different here, as are the blackout/flyscreen on rear doors and the double sunroof is class-leading. Nothing really new but some good stuff nonetheless
Beautiful vehicle but too long and too dear. Roll on the six metre
The Habitation door and steering wheel are on the wrong side
This was a prototype brought over to the UK for press/dealer evaluation. Production models are RHD but have the sliding door on the offside (like most imports)
Your phrase typical continental layout sums up this van. It’s just has improvements, I’m not that impressed personally because it’s only a 2 berth and there is nothing revolutionary about this van.
Manufacturers playing safe as usual.
I want to see the following. Can anyone build this.
1)
Rear bunks on in the rear that fold up, 2 on each side length ways. Navy style beds.
2) 4x4
3) Motorhome style rear seat behind the cab for relaxing. Not the usual upright seats
4) one level floor of possible
5) load Bering roof with ladder for access
Make a proper utility/leisure vehicle someone for around 100k
Thank you
I'm sure you could get a specialist converter to make something like that on a 4x4 Sprinter, but reckon you'd need closer to £150k
97k only if i win the lottery 😂 door on wrong side,
shower looks to small...
Fresh tank inside taking up room while waste is outside, why can they not put both outside....gas tank should be outside too....plenty of windows letting in light.....can i ask you put bed in metric & imperal, can you do that for outside measurement too !!!! Suming up 90 out off 100 only for driving in Europe.
External tanks freeze up even if heated, then you have no water even to flush the loo!
Roof light aero spoiler included? 😂
A ok van but badly let down by the shower room yet again. It seems that most vans even the very expensive ones seem to give you below par shower/wet rooms which is a really shame. The wet room in my van is the only thing I really dislike and would change if possible.
How about this Malibu then? ruclips.net/video/Q1p0J5_D_JA/видео.html Some clever use of space in its washroom!
Am I missing something here? It looks exactly the same as most other campervans out there of this ilk. There is nothing new or technically innovative about it, apart from the over inflated price.
How about a bed that raises up in the front to cater for the two 'belted' passenger seats in the rear. Or maybe a bolt on rack above the towbar with extra jerry cans and a spare wheel etc.
Price reflects the spec, quality and base vehicle.
If you want a drop-down bed at the front, that's not easy in a panel van due to restricted width at roof level but Dreamer does this in a couple of models such as the Living Van.
Your perception has been influenced by Badge engineering !? underskin there same van of same production line as Merc sprinter VW crafter siblings🤷
No, it's not related to the Sprinter at all.
However, it's just as good as the VW Crafter because that's the same van, built on the same line in Poland.
I'm NEVER influenced by a badge!
Says built on same production line as sprinter 🤠
Can never understand why anybody would want to buy a large campervan above transporter size or a motorhome. They crash about inside as you are driving and then you get to your camp site and you are stuck, not being able to park it at attractions or on days out because of it's size and have to pack everything away if you do try to go anywhere. Even have to drive the whole thing off the pitch to fill up with water. A caravan makes much more sense and is a much cheaper option, with more room, a large fixed bed, not dissimilar to the one at home, if you pick the right one and the ability to go out, leave the campsite and park your car anywhere at a moments notice and leave your high value items much safer behind on the camp site, you also need an extra MOT, vehicle insurance, extra vehicle servicing. Have to mark your pitch so nobody nicks it while you are out. No not for me !
Most campervans (even large ones) are quiet on the road - no crashing about! A campervan like this is no bigger than an Amazon delivery van, so will fit anywhere you want to go, and when you get there you haven't left your loo, shower and kitchen behind (as with a caravan). If you prefer public toilets and expensive cafes, then a caravan is for you (LOL), but keep watching the channel and maybe we'll convert you!
always the same floorplan with the second sitting row. Why not build a sofa on the side??? Most people ride with two and this is ruining the space ( in my eyes)...
That's what sells. It seems most buyers want to be able to carry passengers, even if only occasionally
97000 wow your gonna need a tooblock klunk
Worse design I've seen for such a large van the kitchen area not pleasant to operate the shower size a joke no sofa to relax on most of the day no roof fans no solar the garage space needed but why have movable beds cause then no were to put the garage stuff for 90k a joke sack the designers and ask people who use campers not rocket science
Right across Europe this type of layout dominates sales, so clearly plenty of buyers like them. For me, the bedroom area and the garage (and ease of adapting one to the other) are top notch here
You do have a bed to relax upon if you feel the need.
I don’t like U.K. layout with the rear lounge requiring a bed to be made up, plus having to store all of the bedding somewhere, and no garage. This layout is way more popular than any other worldwide. But then what ever floats your boat, hence why manufacturers supply all different types of vans catering for our specific wants and needs.
Inverted Tardis
I must be missing something here. £100k with so many compromises, particularly on kitchen and bathroom space. I think Peter needs to review with his head rather than his heart. Totally impractical. A complete waste of money.
I'm not sure what's impractical except, perhaps, the slightly small washroom. Compared with other high-end campervans on premium base vehicles (Crafter, Man, Merc), the price is about right. It won't appeal to everyone but the bedroom/garage area is class-leading. If you want something more trad British, see the Auto-Sleeper M-Star but that's £125k now - ruclips.net/video/_vRZSCn7IX4/видео.html
Just don’t get it. Huge vehicle… for 2. Impractical for UK car parks. £100k! The ‘hallowed MAN’. Dash from the ‘80’s. Fisher Price ‘my first sat nav screen’. He said it’s sophisticated. What?! Has he seen a Tesla? Impractical. Expensive. Pointless. Best part, it still rattles hahahahaha.
Yes, I've seen a Tesla - cheap-looking interior with a big iPad stuck on as an after-thought and they don't make LCVs.
If you want a campervan (based on a van), look at the rivals and you'll see the MAN is the best.
