God, this is beautiful, I love this song, I love them so much 😩. I genuinely don't understand how these characters aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together. The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, but that's what he was taught in order to survive. His manipulation is second nature to him, it helped him when ppl betrayed him, and they probably did since he was the most hated Grisha. I feel like he can't trust people too easily which means that it's difficult to get his guard down sometimes. To be honest, I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. Throughout the decades he's only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her. That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her, Arken was working for Zlatan and attempted to kill Alina, no wonder they gave her so much protection. If the Fold was destroyed, there's no stopping the Fjerdans, Ravkans and Shu Hans from attacking Grisha. People just think that Grisha are there to harm, but they're to help too. The Darkling has been doing everything he's done for Grisha. At the end, I feel like he felt betrayed by Alina because he felt that she understood him, which is why I think he was telling the truth about some things he said to her. They both seriously need to have a PROPER talk with each other and Alina needs to let him talk. I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters. I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.

I honestly don't get why are people shipping them. Like I haven't read the books, so maybe I'm missing something, but in the show? This relationship seems to me so unhealthy and toxic. Shipping isn't about morality. Alina and The Darkling are great foils, the dynamics are interesting, and the fact that yes actually they *could* have had this but he fucked up is interesting. So people want to explore the dynamic. Also shipping isn't a zero sum game. Just because people find it interesting to explore this pairing doesn't mean they hate Mal X Alina or even other dynamics (Genya X Alina for the win, let's be real people). It's just that right now on this video people are saying "hey, there's something about how these characters interact with each other that I as a viewer find compelling and I would like to discuss it more".

She wasn't treated badly by anyone because he's a character too. They're just the hero and the villain in a story. That's a dynamic people love, the hero and the villain are literally created in a good story to be the opposites of each other. You can put a hero and villain into any character dynamic with each other and it's really interesting because they are written to work off each other. That's why people like it. It's why people always like the hero and the villain. Especially if there's the option of discussing the hero turning to the dark which is a popular theme in a lot of fan works.
