Hi Roger, Just last week I spent around 2 hours Mullet Trapping and Nipper Sucking, spent the rest of the day catching 40cm + Flat Heads. A really great and proven way to fish.
Hi Roger, long term subscriber and have learnt soo much from your vids. Can you share the "rough area" you are in without disclosing your secret spot. I am really struggling to find areas just like this around Sydney where I can take my son for fishing for flatty where you can catch and cook without "do not eat" warnings!
great finding right depth but then what is happening with the tide? getting shallower or deeper with the tide? cant leave for too long if water is changing. as well as the drop offs find where the shallow water is draining off the receding water into the deeper areas, flathead sit waiting for food to come to them with the water draining off.
Hey Roger, what I do to help hold the plastic on better is cut the wrist section off a rubber glove and use that instead, it's tight and grippy and doesn't pop off. 😉
Hi Roger, Does berleying with bread and a cast net work also? Would be great to see some beach Alvey fishing.... if possible. Thanks for all of your hard work and great knowledge you are passing on.
Hi Roger. I think we would love to see some boat fishing videos, that would be great. Also when I use a 3 way swivel beach fishing it tangles with the main line so I wandering why that happens and what I do to stop it? Keep up the great work!
Can you use Trumpeters or they're called shity fish for live bait or dead fade and cut them up and using his baked catch Bram or whiting? Can you use a mullet to catch bream and whiting by cutting them up into little Chunks?
Might be interesting to try one of those cheap electronic fish toys to put in to act as the berley dispenser in comparison, as you said alot of people wont already have a live mullet spare to speed it up :)
Hi mate, Have you ever tried bread crumbs in your mullet traps? What I do is the same as you with the mushing up of the bread, but I also add a handful or 2 of bread crumbs into the trap depending on the size of the trap. It's dynamite
Whatever happened to the Oyster Bottles with a bit of bread jammed in the end,the mullet would pack in so tight they couldn't get out, pick up a dozen at a time!
Heres a question you've probable never been asked, how do you catch smaller mullet? Im in QLD, so traps are dodgy, so I use sabiki style jigs, size 6 or smaller hooks, but I still catch chunky buggers, 10 inch plus. For live bait I like fish around the 6 inch mark (or less).
@RogerOsborneFishing thanks Roger, I've been using 6 and 8 size "sabiki", so I'll drop down to size 12 and tie my own (mind you, I get some very nice sized Gar on the jigs I'm using, not QLD legal, but a bit of fun when you get a couple on 2kilo main line😃👍)
G'day Roger, thank you for all your tips , can you please emphasise and advertise, to all fishing people , to clean up after fishing, I fish gold coast and northern NSW waters and am continually, cleaning up plastic bait bags , and all other sorts of rubbish, that are detrimental to the water ways ,and eco systems that surround them , thank you
Yer mullet are ok but the whiting, bream or tarwine are better, I find the flat tail mullet you catch in the surf the jew love them but the mullet up the river I never get jew on them I don't know why, maybe the smell I don't know

Not to sure how the missus will feel about taking the glass bowls for mullet traps haha.
fr ,she will never want to use them in the kitchen again
I have several but I'm the fisherwoman in our family so don't mind sacrificing my bowls lol you can go to salvos n get one for a dollar or two if not
She can leave any time she wants the door not locked 👍
I blame the kids lol
A 2.5 litre bowl is $10 at Big W not sure what size Roger is using@@janiceratcliffe7401

Roger I much appreciate your generous and calm teaching style. Learning a lot with this video.
Thanks! It's my pleasure.

Used to use the old oyster bottles when a kid….great fun

That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Roger, can't beat a good Flathead 👍
Love your vids Roger
Live mullet and live whiting are awesome baits for flathead, some lovely information for learners. Got to love the dusk mozzies lol
Btw congrats on the 100k subs deserved 👍

Amazing video!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it.
You could have a GoPro off to the side looking at the trap

Thanks, Jack, Great idea!
Such a good watch
Always enjoyed
Do you know how they go for gummy
Great video thanks.
Is it better to fish a closed lake or open lake?
10:44 if you have no fish to seed it, cast a burley float behind it and bring it over the top :)
I've been struggling so hard to get that first bloody mullet
Then we graduated to the fluorescent light tubes which were thicker, longer and captured more poddy mullet......they weren't fancy but they were cheap!
Another good vid Roger what size bowl is that? I have a 2.5 litre not sure if yours is bigger or not.
Can you use Trumpeters or they're called shity fish for live bait or dead fade and cut them up and using his baked catch Bram or whiting? Can you use a mullet to catch bream and whiting by cutting them up into little Chunks?
Hey Roger have you ever considered doing a catch and cook with stingray?
Might be interesting to try one of those cheap electronic fish toys to put in to act as the berley dispenser in comparison, as you said alot of people wont already have a live mullet spare to speed it up :)
Yep I was thinking the same
Hi Roger, curious what lake is that ?
Hello, Roger. Nice fish 😃. Thank you for sharing. Learned something again from you today regarding flathead and mullet 🎏. Tight Lines.
Thanks, glad you learned something new!

I use a size 12 Trout hook to catch the smaller Mullet by line. I often catch them around 8 - 10cm.

I got the same hat you have
Hi Roger what area are you based in ?

Fantastic flatties.
Cheers! Flathead are always a good catch.
Praise the Lord Roger. I live in Narrabeen and the flattys have been biting on the sand spit.
Excellent!
Ever tried putting in a couple of toy, wind up swimming fish instead of real ones, to get the trap going?
Yer mullet are ok but the whiting, bream or tarwine are better, I find the flat tail mullet you catch in the surf the jew love them but the mullet up the river I never get jew on them I don't know why, maybe the smell I don't know
I am first
