    You forgot how Olaf the holy, King of Norway, forced Icelanders to convert to Christianity or face death.

    • @sagastube
      @sagastube  6 лет назад +4

      Had to leave out some details ;) Also I think you might be thinking of Olav Tryggvason. He sent Tangbrand a Saxon priest to Iceland. Tangbrand wasn't very successful and he killed a few people. When Tangrand returned to Olav with the bad news Olav got mad, and (as I understand) he threaten to kill all the Icelanders in a town, but they got baptized instead. This is all from the sagas anyway, and is only semi-historical at best :)
      Speaking of Olaf the Holy, I'm very cautious about all sources covering this person as he was used heavily as a propaganda tool for Christianity, meaning much of the info is falsified. You might have heard about "the Battle of Stiklestad", a large battle involving Olaf. Turns out it might not have been any battle, just a story to build a decent saint for the christian faith :)

      @peturkristinsson9463 6 лет назад

      no not exactly, as i remember from 5th grade history class, a priest was sent to make us convert we did not want to but one of the chieftains thought about it at the alþing and he decided it would be more modern and practical to become christian

    What's with the racist cartoon at 2:23 ?

    • @sagastube
      @sagastube  2 года назад

      It's the logo of Cleveland Indians. It's not intended as racist, this video was made before the indians changed their logo and name. It's also an editing mistake I did that made it only appear for a few seconds. The only message here is some extra info about a theory that conflicts with the natives ended the Norse settlements. It would be more accurate to show native Canadians, but I didn't know a lot about copyright at the time of asking this, so my image pool was rather limited. Hope that clears it up 😊
