Nice job Marty! I had a 66 Ford Galaxie 500 two years out of high school back in 1975. I bought the car from a high school kid who made some modifications. He added mag tires used back then, dual thrust hush exhaust and did the car in blue metal flake paint. Oh and jacked up just a little in the back . That car was the bomb! We went everywhere in it. Those were the days. Nice job Marty!
Good idea matching the colour before stripping the model. In fact all your ideas for the restorations, replacing parts like the axles etc are brilliant. You always do a fantastic job of restoring these vintage models. ..
I bought one at the local drug store that carried Matchbox cars. I still have it. And 60 or so others. Like a lot of people, I wish I would have kept the boxes. I do have a few. But when you're 9 years old, who cared about the box ? I also have several engines and other emergency vehicles. I went on to a 20 year career with the Fire Dept. and retired as Captain. Peace to all of you and yours out there from America, and THANK YOU MARTY for the great videos. :)
when i was a kid (40 years ago) I was dropping off some garbage with mum at the local tip and someone had thrown out about 300 empty matchboxes. I should have grabbed them. i DID go through them and found one that was not empty (forklift).
Hey Marty - Great job as always! That little lump on the grill is actually a nice detail that matches the original car's grill: It's a small Galaxy logo that has what looks like a crown on top.
I just discovered this channel I'm 49 years old and for some reason I find watching you restore these toy cars not only interesting but very relaxing as well
Oh the nostalgia! Me mum had a 1968 Galaxie 500. I was the first car I remember riding in. It had more of a fastback than the '66 but was very similar. This grabs me by the feels.
I had the 2 door version of this for real. Loved cruising around in that car. Thanks for bringing back the memories. The "bump" on the driver's side of the grill is the factory emblem you'd see on the real Galaxie 500 XL cars. That's a really nicely detailed die-cast car.
I grew up with Matchbox cars and these videos are so addicting. Love watching you work. Your results are excellent. Your little story lines are quite entertaining. Cheers from America!
Nice job Marty. Great restoration and video. Being a firefighter here in the US I especially like this one.Had this model when I was a kid. Thanks, as always, excellent!
Well done Marty, another timeless classic youtube video.. loving you just slowing the pace and describing all the little details, they really hold our attention..
I just love how thorough you are, paint wise and all the info on the particular model your working on so informative also glad to see you using taymia paints. You sir have a wonderful day.love your videos.
its crazy, ive been having a crappy day so far in between school and work. i finally have time to have a smoke and watch MMM, as soon as it started i felt more relaxed than ever. thanks for that Marty.
Marty....needless to say, this is on point as usual. One of my fav castings too. It is the first *custom* I ever made back in 1976. I used a pen knife to scratch the britework areas of paint. My first car as luck would have it was a 1965 Galaxie 500. I paid $700 for it. I called her The Beast. 352 Windsor V8 with a Rochester 4 BBL carb. That bump on the front grill was simply badging Lesney saw fit to include on the grill. Just a logo for the car.
These are just brilliant videos! It is almost as captivating to watch what clever working methods you have come up with as it is to see how the restoration turns out to be.
Just caught your video..great job as always, the flashing blue light was an amazing touch! Enjoy your vacation and will be watching for your next video..
I tuoi video sono sempre eccezionali e con tutti i consigli sui prodotti che usi e i tuoi "segreti" ci dai la possibilità di poter metter in pretica sempre meglio questa grande arte del restauro. Grazie infinite.
I don’t know why but I particularly enjoyed this mornings video more than usual! Enjoy your leave Marty, maybe you ll find some matchbox on holiday! See you in two weeks! Ian
Your spray booth news headlines never distract me from the lesson Marty, honest. But I do get intrigued about the dates *[Sept. 4th 1988]* on today's video. Well preserved newspaper there!
Hi Marty, great video as always. The “irregularity” on the front grill was a badge which had “500” cast in it and if my aging memory is correct it was painted red, white, and blue within the badge. My neighbors had this model car when I was a kid. Have a great holiday.
I saw Time Rider's challenge, so it's great to see the result. Love the Galaxy 500 as a vehicle, so this is a great one for me to watch. Also, the first time I have seen plastic window glass repair. Thank you!😎
My Dad had a 65’ Ford Galaxie. That little detail on the grill is a logo symbol. It shows the letters XL or LTD (depending on the trim level) within a “Ford Blue” background.
Thanks again for another great video! I am always waiting for the "I'm happy with that", and you held out on me until near the end! Wonderful job on the restoration.
To straighten the plastic I like to fix the piece of plastic in a glass plate with magnets and then to immerse in hot water. The trick is to let the water cool slowly.
I enjoy your channel. It brings back memories of a time when I had dozens of these little cars as a small boy. The little story the end of your clips demonstrating your finished work is a charming touch. Correct me if I am mistaken but i am positive I have seen that same Ford Galaxie or Custom in the form of a yellow Taxi, White Police car and a plain sedan with nothing on the roof.
Gonna miss the Saturday video, but I hope you have a fantastic time away! I have been waiting for that massive box of cars video... and I’m guessing that’s what’s coming soon. I wanted to mention what a great job you’ve been doing on your 3D printing and decal production lately. These aspects add dynamics to your video production, that I personally enjoy. Thanks for another Cool, fun adventure.
You guessed right, I tried to get a backlog of videos before I went away but these take more time than I always think they will. I'm still trying to get the 3D printing right, All in time I suppose. Thanks very much for the comment.
Another masterful video, maestro! Enjoy a jolly holiday! Have a grand walkabout! Have another Johnnie Walker! (Don't drink and Dremel) Greetings from Jersey City, NJ.
Another excellent restoration! You really matched the color to the original perfectly. I cannot tell the difference between the two. The piece of metal on the grill is the Galaxy emblem which was a star. I hope this helps and thanks for posting this tutorial.
One little tip for you mate. When replacing parts that are an awkward shape like the ¼ window and roof was, use a thin, but stiff cardboard to do the outline, even drawing it on the cardboard, rather than trying to cut it. Once you have the shape perfect, you can transfer the shape to the plastic, and cut the shape from the template you just made, and it will be a perfect fit. It's a lot easier to make this way. Also, when darkening red in the future, use a brown instead of a black, and it will tone in mutch better, without altering the hue as much. Adding black should always be reserved for darkening white only. If you want to darken a colour, you should always look on the opposite side of a colour wheel, and add that. To change the tone if a colour, add one of its pyramid colours e.g. imagine the colour you are using is the top of a pyramid, and the two colours at the bottom points are it's light and dark hues. To change the hue, add whatever colour is next to it on a colour wheel. You can get colour wheels anywhere for a couple of bucks. Just a little mess with a cheap watercolour set from the $1 store and it becomes self explanatory. Hope this helps mate.
I love how clean and organized your work area is, especially given how mush mess is generated by what you're doing. Even the jar of rivets was clean! I wonder if this is just the way you're wired. For example, is your house the same way, everything clean and in its place? I wish I could be like that, but what a great trait to have in your line of work. The cars you makeover show your meticulous attention to detail, just phenomenal.
Could I suggest b4 you match your paint you could do a light polish on the old paint to get the true colour back first. Might not always be necessary. Love your work as always Marty 👍🏻
I watch these before bed. So therapeutic
I'm trapped at home due to it snowing outside. To have a Marty video made my evening much better!

Check ebay there are some reasonably priced repro boxes there
Hey Marty - Great job as always! That little lump on the grill is actually a nice detail that matches the original car's grill: It's a small Galaxy logo that has what looks like a crown on top.
Agreed
Everyone upvote this so that Marty will challenge me to a matchbox showdown!!
I'd love to see two pros face-off on a resto, sure the results for both would be crazy cool!
Always got pick fights, Jimmy? 😆
Marty will win, man
Good one Marty, from the US east coast
Top Flight restorations of the world, Craig...
I always look forward to your videos especially seeing what you've lined your spray booth with this week. Always good for a chuckle.
Another great video Marty, glad to see that your boomerang injury is healing. Hope you and your lovely bride enjoy your holiday.
I just discovered this channel I'm 49 years old and for some reason I find watching you restore these toy cars not only interesting but very relaxing as well
I love to watch your restoration work. You gives new life to dead toys. Thanks for making beautiful videos.
Oh the nostalgia! Me mum had a 1968 Galaxie 500. I was the first car I remember riding in. It had more of a fastback than the '66 but was very similar. This grabs me by the feels.
That's some good nyborg.
I just add a thumbs up without even watching the video first! Why is this so therapeutic? Thanks, as always.
Always appreciate it, Thanks very much chris!
The "headlines" in the spray booth are now an icon of your show.
The choice of which ancient newspaper is in your spray booth is always an exciting discovery.
I had the 2 door version of this for real. Loved cruising around in that car. Thanks for bringing back the memories. The "bump" on the driver's side of the grill is the factory emblem you'd see on the real Galaxie 500 XL cars. That's a really nicely detailed die-cast car.
top job yet again Marty love the flashing blue light ...enjoy your break and we will stay tuned for when you return

Nice job Marty. Great restoration and video. Being a firefighter here in the US I especially like this one.Had this model when I was a kid. Thanks, as always, excellent!
The "casting mark" on the grill is actually a badge emblem on Ford Galaxies. Depending on which model car it was they were different.
Didn't they say "500" on the Galaxie 500's?
Awesome. I dug through my mom's closet and found my old matchbox and found a couple of projects. I love these videos
!
Nice restoration as usual Marty I wish you and your wife a magnificent vacation and we see you again soon on RUclips
Well done Marty, another timeless classic youtube video.. loving you just slowing the pace and describing all the little details, they really hold our attention..

Theres a lot of stuff to cram into each video, sometimes I wish i could squeeze in a little more. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
its crazy, ive been having a crappy day so far in between school and work. i finally have time to have a smoke and watch MMM, as soon as it started i felt more relaxed than ever. thanks for that Marty.
Thank you so much for some many entertaining restoration videos. Have a great vacation!
Happy to see new video on my arrival! Thank you!
Marty, you should consider narration of children's books and animation. You've definitely got the voice for it.
Have a great break: you've inspired folk here to rebuild our heritage!
Emblem on the grill & note the stars on the tail lights. Nice details. And another beauty restored.🚓
Hi Marty, bloody fantastic job on the Ford Fire chief car .Hope you have a great trip away l,ook forward to more video after your you return.

I use a metal brush in my dremel to clean up the base. Does a great job. Great job!
Excellent result. The paint colour and gloss is superb. Good idea for repainting the base: looks new again.
These are just brilliant videos! It is almost as captivating to watch what clever working methods you have come up with as it is to see how the restoration turns out to be.

My dad has one of these! I really should give it a try at restoring it. Awesome restore and gives me some ideas!
The mark on the grill is the Ford Galaxie logo from the factory. You're right, it belongs there, and is a great piece of detail
Great job Marty, you have great time on vacation, oh I mean holiday!
And half a bottle of whisky later, a fully restored Matchbox car! Magic.
Awesome job on the car. Enjoy your holiday, Marty.
Lovely job
To straighten the plastic I like to fix the piece of plastic in a glass plate with magnets and then to immerse in hot water. The trick is to let the water cool slowly.
Τhanks for sharing with us another one good project of restoration!
I needed a good laugh and your newspaper did the trick! Brilliant resto as per usual

Another awesome restoration, Marty! Always a pleasure, I'll miss your next one while on vacation but have a great time!
