  • Giorgetto Giugiaro is one of the most prominent industrial designers in car history. his career spans seven decades and he's had his hand in well over 100 cars, including the Volkswagen Golf, ISO Grifo, and Delorean DMC-12. Outside of the automotive realm, he's also dabbled in motorcycles, cameras, firearms, and even pasta.
Giugiaro was born in 1939 and studied art and technical design in Turin. Giugiaro had his work on display during a year-end student show. His work caught the attention of Dante Giacosa, Fiat's lead engineer. He brought Giorgetto Giugiaro onto the brand, but he couldn't hake much of an impact at such a large company.
in 1959, Giugiaro moved over to Bertone, a design house that was similar ins structure. He only spent a few years at Ghia. Here, he designed the DeTomaso Mangusta, Iso Fidia, and Maserati 5000GT
He moved on to Ghia in 1966. Here, he designed the DeTomaso Mangusta, ISO Fidia, and Fiat Dino Coupe.
In 1968, Giorgetto Giugiaro founded Italdesign, a car design studio. At Italdesign, Giorgetto Giugiaro designed iconic cars such as the Volkswagen Golf, Lancia Megagamma, and Alfa Romeo Brera. In addition to this, he's designed cars for automakers like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Fiat. Giorgetto has also designed the Lotus Esprit.

I was always a big fan of Marcello Ghandini and Fivorvanti. Ghandini designed the Countach. It's great to finally find a video on one of my childhood heroes. My whole life I always wanted to go to Italy or California and be a car designer but never had the chance. Thank you.

Absolutely. Giugaro was brilliant, Gandini was the absolute master who took the "supercar" with the Countach into a new dimension. Nothing else even comes close to this, it set a new paradigm copied everywhere afterwards. No other car designer can lay claim to this.
