One of the best singers of the past 10 years…
I really wish Gene had fully rocked out to a different song, but he sang it incredibly well and made it his own. He's been my favorite contestant this season and it pains me to see such a talented guy with a powerhouse voice go home earlier then he deserves. I want to see this man sing more, so I recommend everyone find a way to follow Gene's music career to see more of his amazing performances!
John did a stupid decision because he paired them together and both really amazing and decided to choose zoe who sings like she is taking and pitch issues and let this talented amazing singer sent home

This was UNFAIR! I keep repeating Mafe is the frotrunner but tonight she wasn't in her best while Gene gave his all! There is nothing to critique vocal-wise about him tonight. He was perfect! This guy has delivered so many great vocal performances in this show but I understand John already has two male powerhouse vocalists (Bryan and Nathan) and he needed a female in order for him to have a more diverse team next round, so Mafe, then! You are great, Gene!❤
The lyric distortions and over-perforins makes that a no go from me. It even had the judges looking puzzled.
I honestly think Mafe won the knockout. Just like Chance said, I also noticed the pitch issues in his performance. But mafe was flawless. I picked her before John even did. But Gene is amazing

swinging for the fences, such a high-pitched vocal but sounds very grounded. His stage movements are interesting, working it. Hitting those big notes with ease. What a showman!
Gene is a great performer and artist. It is such a crazy thing that John Legend paired him and Mafe together. I am bummed to see him go, but I saw it coming since him and Mafe both chose songs that didn't suit them very well.. if Gene chose a better song, I think he would have sailed into the live shows. He has a RUclips channel, and subbed to it because I think he is just that good that I would want to keep up with what he is doing. His original stuff is actually really good.

I loved this song choice for Gene! It's right in his wheelhouse and he slayed that! Not as good as Steven Tyler but he still did a fantastic job with it. He was working the stage and hit the high notes so flawlessly. This was honestly Gene's best performance of the season! He is my top 2 favorite vocalist this season and yet he went home just like my personal favorite Val. I could see how seasoned Gene was in this song. He's the real deal. A pro. I don't care what he sang because no matter what he sang, I would instantly love it regardless. I think he won that round just a tiny bit. He was also right in John's lane and the kind of artist he always takes in his top 3 every season he is a coach. Victor Solomon, John Holliday, CammWess, Mac Royals, Shawn Sounds. Gene is right up there.
Okay I've watched them all. A lot of them picked boring songs or put too much of their 'own spin' on them and wasn't so great. I would like to see Gene Taylor win. He played the stage perfectly, he didn't twist the song so that it was almost unrecognizable, and his voice is one you can listen to all day.

The arrangement of this song is pretty much the same as the performance of Patrique Fortson (season 15, Knockout Rounds). He didn't showcase such high notes and runs and stuffs, he just did ir with his own style without oversinging and he absolutely controlled the stage. Gene did a great performance compared to other contestants in this season, sad to see him go home.

I wasn't a fan of this song either, but he's got such a good voice. Better than some of the others that are left. That's a shame.
Gene is a consummate performer and I much prefer his voice. This song was not the best to display his vocals.
The only rock song in all the knockouts and it wasnt sang as rock/power as it should. He should ve had a ballad as everyone else

Awe man…I had been waiting to hear Gene again, his talent is amazing, and the song choice….isn’t.
I really like his voice in general and loved his audition, but did not love this performance as much as I really wanted to. Idk, something about the execution was just not there for me. Kinda reminds me of Jame's Wolpert's live version of "More than a feeling" that had a BRILLIANT recording, but did not sound as good in the battle.

I wanted him to do classic rock that wasn't a ballad. Song choice is everything
John made a mistake sending him home. If he had the right songs, he could've won this show. Mafe cannot win the show, so I think John made a mistake. I also think Dan + Shay Mads a HUGEEE mistake letting Kyle go. Chance stole him, but I think he could maybe possibly win. Dan + Shay cannot win with Anya. This is all my opinion.

What's wrong with John nowadays? He has the best teams in the auditions and he botches them down to ridiculous singers. Gene and Jackie were my favorite, now his team is worst!
No oh!!!! John still has a very strong team!!! He could easily win the show with either Brad or Nathan!!!!! Easily!!! Val wouldn’t have won the show, neither would Gene!! So I think John’s decisions have been good so far
I think he is amazing but was not pleased with his interpretation of this iconic song! He tried too hard to showcase his incredible vocal ability but was not his usual beautiful and soulful self. I hope he is given another opportunity because he is a very talented vocalist.
Is i am the only one who feels the Talent this season is not as good as last 4 seasons and especially last season. Season 24 was the best voice season in 4-5 years , there was blanket of so much talented artists plus the chemistry among the coaches was delightful ,,, thou this season also the panel is good but this time they lack in terms of chemistry , there are more and more of forced and scripted jokes and less great moments , i think every time there must be coaches like Niall , Kelly and Camila in the mix to keep it exxtra energetic,,,,,,,,,,, i wish this season also improves performance wise in the playoffs and the Lives ,,,,,, coz solo performance with that big production set are all enough to mesmerize the audience ❤❤❤❤

I don’t think he connected enough to the song. Seems almost like he was feeling his way through it. It was also seemingly at the top of his range at the end and it seemed like a struggle. I wish they chose something better for him to navigate.

Bad song choice, he couldn't back it up with his vocals, even though his voice is crazy good. The song took over instead of the other way around. When Patrique from team JHud sang this song, he tore the roof, the stage, the chairs, all the cameras and the song down.

Are you kidding? I thought his version of Don't Want to Miss a Thing was so terrible!! So over done, and missed the feeling of the whole song. It irritated me that he used every single musical cliche of voice show contestants: screaming the song, going down on knees. I could hardly listen to it or watch it. Ugh.
