As other people mentioned in the comments, the section of this video dedicated to Trenitalia isn't up to date: it's not really the creator's fault, Trenitalia happens to be in the process of reviewing its brandings and rolling stock assignments, a process that is supposed to leave Frecciarossa as their only brand for free-market high-speed services, interrupting a process of growing ambiguity. An incorrect information that no one else has yet highlighted is about the ETR 470. Cisalpino was a joint venture between the Italian and Swiss railways: when it was dissolved in 2009, 5 ETR 485 became owned by Trenitalia and 4 by SBB. SBB always struggled to mantain theirs, probably because their workshops weren't used to that kind of rolling stock, and decommissioned them in 2015, as soon as they had enough ETR 610 to replace them. Trenitalia also replaced them with their new ETR 610 a few years later, but started using them on Frecciabianca services from Rome to Calabria. In 2020 they decided to refurbrish and transfer all of their 5 ETR 470 to TrainOSE.
Awesome video, just a few annotations: the ETR 485s are all either been sold to Greece or repurposed on the Frecciabianca service, while all ETR 700 are all rebranded as Frecciarossa. Frecciabianca is about to be discontinued and only operates in very few cities on two lines, both originating from Rome and reaching Ravenna or Genova (then splits reaching Turin or Milan). Frecciargento on the other hand reaches more destinations especially in the south on the Adriatic line reaching Apulia and Calabria (which are also serviced by Frecciarossa during holidays and summer).
I don't know what will happen to ETR 485s but the ones that went to Greece are ETR 470s whilst the Frecciabianca sets are ETR 460s,otherwise nobody actually knows the difference between an IC sun and a Frecciabianca 😅 and god knows will happen with ETR 460s and ETR 485s in the future, all I know is that in 2016 the ETR 460/463 got their tilting turned off due to high maintenance costs and the lack of spare parts, and have been listed for sale so there's that
The video, although good, does not focus on the rivalary, which its title leads one to believe. Italian trains have come a long way. This isn't 100% correct: while all ETR 600 and ETR 700 are now in Frecciarossa livery operating Frecciarossa-branded services, the ETR 485 haven't been rebranded yet, and some Frecciargento services still operate south of Rome with this rolling stock. Similarly, ETR 460 are still operating a few Frecciabianca services from Rome to Ravenna and Genoa/Milan, but nobody knows for how long, or what kind of rolling stock and branding will replace these services.
That's not going to happen, Italian train prices are already quite low Vs most larger European high speed networks, eventually they will increase not decrease

Trenitalia is now removing the Frecciargento and Frecciabianca brands, so they can invest more in what they want to be the main and only brand for high speed trains, Frecciarossa. As such, the ETR 600 and ETR 700 trains have become part of the Frecciarossa fleet, while the older third-generation Pendolino trains (ETR 485 for Frecciargento and ETR 460 for Frecciabianca) are doing the last few services of the other brands. The ETR 470 trains were built for Cisalpino (joint venture between Trenitalia and SBB) and when it failed, the trains were divided between each operator: 5 for Trenitalia and 4 for SBB. Since 2015 Trenitalia's sets were used on Frecciabianca services until 2020, when they were sent to various shops to be modified for use on the TrainOSE network.

Traveled once in a "Cisalpino", pretty unpleasant experience. Very narrow cabin, felt almost like an airplane. On the contrary, ETR500 are really nice, even in the cheaper coaches.
As usual you made a very interesting video, however I think this time your sources are a bit outdated. The biggest issue is that you failed to mention that Trenitalia is revising its Frecce segment: Frecciabianca and Frecciargento services are gradually being eliminated or converted into Frecciarossa services. For this reason Trenitalia rolled out a new uniformed Frecciarossa livery for it's high speed train and currently all ETR700 and a large part of ETR600 are wearing those new colours, as well as some ETR500 and ETR1000. I'm not sure what will happen to Frecciabianca services, but those were already kinda redundant as they were just fancier Intercities. Speaking of Frecciabianca, you failed to mention that that service is provided mainly by compositions of UIC-Z1 coaches either pulled by E464 (previously it was E402B, but I don't think they are used for Frecciabianca anymore) or sandwiched between two E414, locomotives derived from the prototype of the ETR500. It would be great seeing you address these changes in a community post or a future video, perhaps a dedicated one, as it would really show your effort to provide correct information. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
So, with the ETR600's all being converted into Frecciarossa, does anyone know what will happen now to the ETR610 variants that run the international routes (like to Frankfurt)? Will these be converted to Frecciarossa as well?
Great video, but I have to correct you about the Frecciarossa1000. ETR1000 is just the commercial name, the train is an ETR400 as you can read on the side of the first coach: 93 83 4 400, 93 identifies the train as an high-speed one, 83 = Italy, 4 identifies the coach, 400 the three digits of the rotary group, so ETR400. If it was ETR1000 you would read 93 83 4 1000.
I really hope that Trenitalia retires the ETR 485's soon, I recently rode one from Rome to Genova and the ride quality was absolutely horrible. The car vibrated so much at high speed that luggage was falling over and it honestly just felt unsafe!
ETR700 is obsolete with very poor service. There are only 4/5 Toilets, and are not designed for that amount of people and for the length of journey like Milano-Lecce. So, as a Dutchman who's been following the Fyra saga, are the ETR 700 as problematic as they were in the low countries? A lot of things went wrong with that tender. I blame Dutch hybris: the Dutch have always been very keen on having their own uniquely designed trains, and my perception is that the tender was written in such a way that a whole new train would have to be developed. And that's exactly what happened.
Being from Belgium it's sad the FYRA (where they V250/ETR700 was meant to operate) project failed... But AnsaldoBreda delivered unfinished products with the V250 which was unsafe en unreliable...
Holland fault honestly. After some years of inactiviti and work to put them back to full service, now they are good trains. Not for the toilet ... but for the rest are good enough

Don't you know the story behind the ETR700 nose design? You have to ask Nederland's Railway client ... They explicitly wanted the traditional old style Netherlandish horrible train nose. If I had been in Ansaldo I would have refused to draw such an ugly nose, rather I would have given up the contract. But much of the problems with that train originated from the main mistake Ansaldo made with the Client: to indulge too much its claims. That's my opinion. About the ETR765... He already made Shinkansen (JP), ICE (DE), TGV (FR), and CRH (CN). Hope to see AVE Spain and KTX Korea tho. I wouldn't include UK in major HSR country.
@@kanojune5754 No I wouldn't include the UK as major HSR either (anymore, now HS2 is being scaled back massively). Typical of the UK. We invented something great and then the rest of the world does it better than us and we suck at it 😂
Italy dominium
Italy Railway is really good. Also the Country Landscape is unique and the Food is delicious. 🍓🍓🍓Travel by Train
Traveled once in a "Cisalpino", pretty unpleasant experience. Very narrow cabin, felt almost like an airplane. On the contrary, ETR500 are really nice, even in the cheaper coaches.
Nice overview. Hopefully you have similar video in the works from Spain, France and Germany
We already released that videos in pervious period. You can check it out

Super powerfull italy
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks for this information. We will put it into a pinned comment to this video 😀
I see this is italy week, nice nice

So, with the ETR600's all being converted into Frecciarossa, does anyone know what will happen now to the ETR610 variants that run the international routes (like to Frankfurt)? Will these be converted to Frecciarossa as well?
most likely
Great video, but I have to correct you about the Frecciarossa1000. ETR1000 is just the commercial name, the train is an ETR400 as you can read on the side of the first coach: 93 83 4 400, 93 identifies the train as an high-speed one, 83 = Italy, 4 identifies the coach, 400 the three digits of the rotary group, so ETR400. If it was ETR1000 you would read 93 83 4 1000.
Kindly feature a video about uks hitachi class 800 trains of gwr & lner so awesome
I really hope that Trenitalia retires the ETR 485's soon, I recently rode one from Rome to Genova and the ride quality was absolutely horrible. The car vibrated so much at high speed that luggage was falling over and it honestly just felt unsafe!
japan has trains with style
ETR700 is obsolete with very poor service. There are only 4/5 Toilets, and are not designed for that amount of people and for the length of journey like Milano-Lecce. Air conditioning system is quite bad and also the lounge/bar is not comfortable at all. You can really see that it is a train designed for short distances, exactly like Belgium and Netherlands needs for their railway systems...
Non tilting pendolino it’s a strange name.
My Italian Girlfriend pointed that out. How are you going to name a train Pendulum and not have it swing?
I hope u would cover Indian Japan bullet train construction.
Fiat ferroviaria it's part of almost group, in savigliano in effect when he do an AGV, "new pendolino", commissioned by Italian menagement to compete at Trenitalia in effect
Please can you make a video about croatian trains HŽ and HŽPP?
So, as a Dutchman who's been following the Fyra saga, are the ETR 700 as problematic as they were in the low countries?
A lot of things went wrong with that tender. I blame Dutch hybris: the Dutch have always been very keen on having their own uniquely designed trains, and my perception is that the tender was written in such a way that a whole new train would have to be developed. And that's exactly what happened.
Idiot dutch ...Fyra is a great trein...in tour in italy,
it is already out of date.
Being from Belgium it's sad the FYRA (where they V250/ETR700 was meant to operate) project failed... But AnsaldoBreda delivered unfinished products with the V250 which was unsafe en unreliable...
Was a froid from holand that want not pay....
Now are working qith FS Italia
All people in holand have mom working in a vetrine...
Holland fault honestly. After some years of inactiviti and work to put them back to full service, now they are good trains. Not for the toilet ... but for the rest are good enough
@@stocks_9750 the trains were already late on delivery, then when in service had loads of issues... They we're late more and more than on schedule with alot of cancellations... It's unfair to ask to wait another couple of years (after they were late already) and not only NS/NMBS but also the public lost faith in the FYRA... Who would want to take a train that flopped few years prior...
@@daninio5004 The error was at the beginning of the story. Wrong parameters, wrong trains were built, lot of issues in the pre-exercice were found. I agree with you in some aspect of italian system in doing things, lazyness and other italian caracteristics ... but the error here was in the beginning of Holland Railways. And i tell you from a train-driver perspective who drive ETR700 almost every week that they aren't bad at all, they are even better compared with ETR500. From passenger side, ETR700 has a lot to do ...
@@stocks_9750 That's after years of problem solving mainly technical in order to fix the existing issues

Dutch and Belgians about to get PTSD from the sight of V250s here 💀
Good one 😅
Uuuh, so many seconds watching the ETR700 will for sure bring up nightmares in the coming days!
Really, the shame of European HSR Nose design..!
Followed by the ETR765.
The new Japanese JR East E8 is also quite horrible (compared to it's siblings E5, E6 & E7), but at least in the max tele objective perspective good looking: ruclips.net/video/bcmhWMCK2N4/видео.html
At least, E8 is an improvement over the similar looking E2. And i speak about the train operator with the over all most beautiful color schemes in the world.
Now etr700 and 600 have new livery the same of frecciarossa take a look, surch frecciaargento new livery
@@Lorre982 its not the livery. Its the front design, 1000 times worst than the spanish duck face or the Japanese could ever do.
Actually, the Japanese are a class of their own in design language... while the recent beautiful CRRC superhigh speed rail designs remind me more towards European ones.
I kinda like that ugly nose. It’s just so out there. And the aerodynamic are actually quite good
Don't you know the story behind the ETR700 nose design? You have to ask Nederland's Railway client ... They explicitly wanted the traditional old style Netherlandish horrible train nose. If I had been in Ansaldo I would have refused to draw such an ugly nose, rather I would have given up the contract. But much of the problems with that train originated from the main mistake Ansaldo made with the Client: to indulge too much its claims. That's my opinion.
About the ETR765... It's like the SUV version of a HSR train.
sadly it's a very outdated video
Oh no... The mayhem of the greek pendolinos was mentioned in a Railways Explained video. How embarrasing..... 😅

Quando viaggi su Italo sei sicuro che è un vero treno AV e non rischi di trovarti su una baracca di ETR700 (Fyra scartati dal Belgio) traballante travestito da freccia rossa che a malapena raggiunge i 250Kmh
unhelpful
Frecciarossa and co. are famous for being always late, although they are HSTs. Also the on board service is usually poor. If you are up to choose, always take Italo!
EDIT: Just to be absolutely clear, I am italian myself and I regularly use both Trenitalia (regionali and frecce) and Italo.
This is just a stereotype
always late? hahahaha you are jealous right? TROLL!
