Then Norman Cook had to explain it was meant to be bad. The song took off, people thought the video was hilarious, and against the odds, it ended up winning the three awards at the 1999 MTV awards! This is an actual flash mob before there were flash mobs. Search RUclips for the documentary on this video. The guy who cuts off the music is the movie theater manager. This was filmed in one take, and then they left.
Absolutely brilliant. This is the pinnacle of human freedom from chains of anxiety that modern life brings about. (I think flash mobs existed throughout the '80s?)
@@LDacic No, there were no flash mobs in the 80s. They weren't really a thing before people starting having cell phones with cameras. Or maybe there were flash mobs and the only people who knew about them were the eye witnesses and everyone just thought they were crazy.

I love amateurish stuff like this. Not only the video is low budget their dancing is not very professional too, like you said. If it was "better" it wouldn't be as iconic and I don't think so many people would remember this to this day
BAJAX BAJAX I concur with both you and Vitorio Pedrelli 🙌🏻😄 According to Wikipedia, the cost of making the video was a mere $800 bucks, and yet, it’s brilliant, as well as timeless! 🤩💃🏻
It's deliberately made to look amateurish - it was all a big joke. A lot of work went into it to make it look bad, including all the clothes, which were deliberately bad.
Fun fact: this was filmed at Fox Bruin theatre in Westwood, LA. The same Place where Margot Robbie goes to the movies in Once upon a time in Hollywood.🔥
This video and song is a conduit of psychological expression in my personal life. I was recently divorced when this song came out and had very negative feelings and remorse. This one song gave me permission to be me and to just say "Fuck it, I am having fun!". Life is good. Enjoy it while you have the chance. I am sure there were other people feeling oppressed at the time and feeling like it was time to "Praise You". This song represents a very positive and pivotal time in my life. Thanks goes out to Fatboy Slim!
Nice message. I'll keep it in mind. Right now I am in one of my worst times: my two puppies die, my family rejects me and despises me, I don't have a job, and my neighbors hate me. My image is negative. I lost all my money during the pandemic and my dreams went to hell

@@motherfungler420 i recognize the benefits of technology. i think my comment was to suggest the cultural impact of most americans having a high definition camera/video cam on their persons at all times. this didn't feel like too long ago. also, you have to recognize that democratizing and "viralizing" something also cheapens the novelty of the experience somewhat.

If they ever come here they'll think nothing of this video. They'll look at how we made billions of animals suffer (watch Earthlings), they'll look at how we modified our environment, they'll see how we used our discoveries to start and stop wars, just to name the obvious things. I feel like this music video was made to mock human behavior and everything we accept in a daily basis.

decomposing.
It's one year older than me
I let the song sudder for 3 years, then I decided to be born, and since then ive grown up to become 18 years and counting haha
Wasting time on the internet, just like you are now, just like all of us.
Festering.
@@letshugandlove324 Well, probably yes and no. He found that guy dancing to Rockafella skank and contacted Norman about doing a video clip for it. They were already part way through shooting the video for Rockafella so they ended up using the guy (Richard I believe his name was) for Praise You. EDIT: That was Spike Jonze, he used a pseudonym. lol.
@@kosk11348 the term and concept are quite old. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob#Precedents_and_precursors
Wow
i love how ordinary these people look and how amateurish the dancing is-- if it was more professional or choreographed it wouldn't be as iconic
I love amateurish stuff like this. Not only the video is low budget their dancing is not very professional too, like you said. If it was "better" it wouldn't be as iconic and I don't think so many people would remember this to this day
BAJAX BAJAX they’re giving it their all!! ❤️
BAJAX BAJAX I concur with both you and Vitorio Pedrelli 🙌🏻😄
According to Wikipedia, the cost of making the video was a mere $800 bucks, and yet, it’s brilliant, as well as timeless! 🤩💃🏻
It's deliberately made to look amateurish - it was all a big joke. A lot of work went into it to make it look bad, including all the clothes, which were deliberately bad.
@@techgeek3366 I don’t think it was a joke at all though but a specific look and feel they were going for.
Fun fact: this was filmed at Fox Bruin theatre in Westwood, LA. The same
Place where Margot Robbie goes to the movies in Once upon a time in Hollywood.🔥
Really? Wow! I didn’t know that. Thank you.
The movies are Practical Magic and Star trek insurrection just let you know how old this is.
I wondered where it took place. Also this video has canceled my existential depression for a good amount of time.
Westwood has the most GORGEOUS old movie theaters, it’s so awesome.
Cool

Anyone here because of Rayguns Olympic Performance ?
Our anthem when we make it through the Coronavirus.

Long live socialism! Capitalism had its turned and when things got rough, profits is not the way to go. we must take care of eachother.
You're right. That's why they taught us how to wash our hands at 1:26, and to say hello with one foot at 2:50.

Played this as our entrance song to our wedding. Always makes me smile watching this music video or whenever I hear this song!
Nobody cares. People like you are narcissists who want the attention of the world on them at all times.

Back when the Internet was fun.
I miss fun internet.
That's racist
How’s this got anything to do with the internet? Genuinely asking, did this dance group start online?
we all do @1RedHyena
1RedHyena the Internet is still fun if you look in the right places 😀
Its not like the internet has changed dude, there is still old shit online
I can't get enough of this.
It's so powerful what's going on here. The energy is superb.

I was 85 when this song first came out and now I’m dead. Crazy how time flies by!

Coca-Cola doesn't taste the same as it used to.
That was Olympic-quality breakdancing my mans was doing near the end.
The applauding by the bewildered crowd still processing what they just watched is heartwarming

Spike Jonez is the most underrated creator.
the skate videos he has directed (yeah right, fully flared)are in a league of their own too..
Being John Malkovich is a great movie.

weirdly refreshing to see no phones pointed at this group while they slayyy
Someones recording it tho
Zidane Tribal Yes, the people shooting the music video for Fatboy Slim ;-D
By the way, it won three MTV video music awards.
I mean, wouldn't it be shit if people could rewatch this on their phone's or share it make it go viral... Obviously the crew were filming it, but think of how many flash mobs you've missed and how many you've seen due to people recording it on their phones...

I remember when our professor back in university used to show his love for music videos, and we all were fascinated. He also told us that this one was his favourite one. He couldn't explain why. He just said that it had something special that really touched him. Today, I can understand why. Rest in peace wherever you are, professor.

Life is awesome and death is a part of life...
I am now 46 and quietly crying in my recliner wondering where the hell did 21 years go.
Brian Siemers was it a dream or was I once happy 😥
STOP doing that at once ! Hell you can sit and cry in your recliner all you want , but stop wondering where the time has gone , it will drive you perfectly foaming at the mouth mad . Where did the time go , better yet was there any time here to start with . When we wonder where time has gone that should be the very concept of time to start with , if there never was any time , then how can we wonder where it went ?

It is a spiritual dance
If they ever come here they'll think nothing of this video. They'll look at how we made billions of animals suffer (watch Earthlings), they'll look at how we modified our environment, they'll see how we used our discoveries to start and stop wars, just to name the obvious things. I feel like this music video was made to mock human behavior and everything we accept in a daily basis.
