That was very helpful. I had no idea how to raise the audio levels in my videos, except with audio tab, and you got me pointed in the right direction. Thank you!
Wow, this is incredible! I don't think I've seen any other RUclipsr go into such depth of information. Thank you! Playing back my video after these edits felt like a goddamn magic trick. It's so much better than just normalizing everything on the edit page. The highs were reduced, and the lows were increased! Now it all sounds top-tier. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're right about the loud audio thing. I didn't even notice that you only had 368 subs. I thought you were in the hundreds of thousands of subs just from the aura of confidence a loud voice exudes.
Thanks Pawel ! I found no problems understanding you, (US here) and have worked with audio for years! However, you did teach me some things on how to use DAVINCI loudness meter. SUB’ d and liked. Will check more of yours!
Great video! I do have a question though. I am fairly new to this so I may have a misunderstanding. I understand the solutions of compression and raising audio levels, but I notice in your video that this makes the decibel levels jump way up in the red. Is this normal or is there supposed to be a balance with loudness and decibels. Because I thought there was always an understanding that you want to keep your audio bars in the yellow, at least for vocal dialogue. Again thanks for the video :)
Pawel, thanks so much for the detailed explanation. May I ask if my current videos have their audio levels set correctly? They are intended to record ambient noise as part of a virtual walk tour and as a result the content loudness is usually around -25dB. I am not sure if this is too quiet.
What you could have included is going to the settings then the fairlight tab and setting the lufs to -14, that way you could have had them automatically change colour depending when correct or not, also could have added the main tack so that it shows history again by colour. very good video tho
I photographed performances of singers on stage. I recorded the sound directly from the console amplification system. With Tascam DR-40X. And I edit in DAVINCI RESOLVE during the performance I get stereoTwo tracks. But in the sound recording device, it is on dual. One is high volume and the other is limited to minus 12. Then after recording, if everything is fine, I use only the high volume.Tell me Please if this is how it should be. You are a professional. When recording sound from a console of a singer's performance. What should be the limit when recording sound from the board? Minus 6- Minus 3 Minus 12 DB or other? And what should the sound limit be during video editing minus 6 DB, minus 3 DB or other? Thanks
Thank you so much! This is great for a beginner like me to follow and apply to my own videos. However, maybe followups to go deeper into this topic would be great. For the taget audience "youtube creator": What are the main things I need to focus on while editing my audio and maybe what are all the scary buttons on the fairlight page for? Thanks again. Great video and super helpful
Ive watched about 10 videos about this and this was the only one that made sense. great work. Im still struggling to get my audio to -14 lufs and TP to -2, how do I get them more inline with RUclips standards?
Make a tutorial how to blend in a Voice over into the origianl video. I Do VO of funny game sketches and my audio sounds like its something sepparate from the video and i cant understand how to make it blend with original video sound so that it sounds like it was there originaly
What's the difference between using this method and by just add a limiter effect (under Dynamic tab). Is there any difference in voice quality on RUclips? because compressor method sounds like it'll take longer than just simply using limiter effect (with "soft" gain on) to gain the same loudness.
what do you do if someone's audio is all over the place i could and do level out the audio lets say there are two sections of his audio ones loud ones to quiet i have to split its and fix it manually it takes way too long to do this i need advice
That really depends on type of content. If you have like 1h inerview filmed in stable conditions, loudness will be also constant. So if you measure like 30 seconds it should be fine. If you have a lot of clips recorded in different conditions, you have set loudness of each one separately
@@pawelmakesyoutube this is awesome! Thank you for replying and I would love to see more davinci resolve videos from you in the future. Got a sub from me!
Fantastic tips, Pawel! Thanks a bunch! 😃 For me, the most difficult part of editing videos is to cut my errors and "hmmm...", "err..." and so on. 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Yep... Spent an inordinate amount of time doing just that in a video that ended up with lots of tiny clips that were in many cases frames long or seconds long.
I think your message has present value however my thoughts are that you have a very slow intro as well as what I believe to be a strong accent that is adding to a communication barrier that I believe would not exist if the intro to this video was not as slow and extremely dry. You do a very good job of teaching and do not stretch the content at all. Keep striving to be the best you and I'm sure I'll be back for some more tips.
I have a piece of crap mic and doing this didn't help me with my peaks blowing out upwards of +5db, I don't understand how to use the limiter apparently, it was not helping much at all, even going crazy and doing a 20-1 ratio wasn't killing those peaks.
hi nice video, i have a question about the limiter, if i have 14 luf max audio level on the fairlight settings, can i bumb up the limiter audio gain over plus 10, so i get yellow on the whole video, is it ok if it hits red target like -10 if we got 14 luf limit anyways :O? best regards

Wow! That was professional. Thank you, sir. Finally somebody explained scientifically the audio part.
Thanks!

Subbed! You are the first RUclipsr to help me fix my quiet RUclips videos. Your video is straight to the point with no fluff! Excellent my friend!
Thank you very much!!! I've been looking for this for days... No one explained better than you bro! keep it up!
and now you found it :)
Best tutorial. Simple and straight to the point. Finally I undertand and can make a good video with good audio. Many thanks.
you are welcome! Happy filming!
Nice to find you again! I've been watching your drone coverage for a long time, but my first love has always been film making. So here I am. Subbed!
thanks! I also wanted to make films. I suck at it but at least its affordable

Good job bratko! :))
Greetings from Serbia and thanks! ;)

Pawel. Thanks. This has been a huge help. I do photography vlogs on location so sound can be difficult but this has helped immensely.
Nice! Glad I could help!
Thank's Pavel ! Your video is perfect and easy to understand !Congrats !
Thanks! And happy you like it!
Thank you for the excellent video Pawel, new subscriber here as a result.
nice, thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!! The only video that helped setting correct audio levels 😅
You are welcome! Happy filming
Thank you so much for making this so simple to understand. 🙏🏼
My pleasure

Thanks. adding more compression and a limiter helps. But to be honest, as long as you are not clipping, going even down to -16LUTs will be fine

because compressor method sounds like it'll take longer than just simply using limiter effect (with "soft" gain on) to gain the same loudness.
Limiter is just a compressor with much more aggressive setting. And Even if you set a limiter at -15dB, peaks will go well above it either way
what do you do if someone's audio is all over the place i could and do level out the audio lets say there are two sections of his audio ones loud ones to quiet i have to split its and fix it manually it takes way too long to do this i need advice
How would you approach measuring loudness if the content is 1 hour long? Going over it like this is for that type of content undoable.
That really depends on type of content. If you have like 1h inerview filmed in stable conditions, loudness will be also constant. So if you measure like 30 seconds it should be fine.

I am confused. You didn't check the "lock metering to transport" in this video but you told us to enable it..
Thanks!!! It's very useful!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Great video!
thank you!
Thank you! You earned another sub.
Thanks!
I think you Forgot to show the part where in the settings the fairlight target needs to be set to 14
hi! this is a great video and has improved my audio, however it says it is peaking in the little mixer at the side? is this okay?
It shows peaks, not loudness. And since we target with peaks into -1.5dB, it will go into red for sure

Unfortunately music making is not my thing. But OK, I can make a few more tutorials on how to use Fairlight in Davinci resolve

You will not fix a crap mic in post production. Invest in a good mic instead

color gradiing is the hardest
Well, depends on what you want to achieve. If input material is ok, then it's simple as well
Motion tracking is!
