    I moved to Spain just before the pandemic, and European city lockdowns turned me way off. I went into the countryside and this life is the way to go. I grow my own potatoes, onions, lettuce, carrots, strawberries, garlic, kale, radish, green beans, beans, and I have dozens of chickens that lay organic eggs. I have healthcare and my few country neighbors stay out of my hair. No mass shootings or military. Mind you, the cities here are feeling more and more like US cities. I don’t recommend them.

      @David Garcia ok I see. Yeah, I don’t follow the politics too much as it’s all very divisive here too. Spain is a mess with all divided regions and identity politics. Catalan vs Spain is nasty. Unless you're planning on living in the nonsensical suburban places where you have to cross 2 highways by car to get to a grocery store (or risk starving), the only real places that compare to international standards in the US are the northeast and west coasts. And there, you're basically paying 40+% taxes just like in Europe (the only exception I can think of is Washington), except you still get no healthcare, have tent communities everywhere, get low-quality food with high-fructose corn syrup in everything, the schools are still horrible, and people are still trying to find out what gender they are.

    Sweden is widely misunderstood. The real nature of the country is socialism for the socialists (essentially salaried people) and capitalism for the capitalists. Nominal taxes for companies are high, but you can easily deduct so many claims, the system is totally flexible, unbureaucratic and supportive of enterprises. I believe that Sweden has one of the proportionally highest numbers of startups and millionaires in Europe. The social safety net contributes to inducing enterpreneurial people to take risks. On top of that, everything works so well. On the minus side, Swedish banks are much worse to their clients than the taxation authority is...

At the time, Canada seemed like an amazing place, I even wanted to become a citizen there when I was little... but nowadays Canada seems like a hellhole and I no longer even want to go to Canada again. @@organicme5602 Yes, but it's starting to sink in for me that I should think about slowing down and creating roots for a family sometime in the future. Still want to minimize tax, but living in the schengen zone is enticing because (as far as I'm aware) there isn't really a limit for how long you spend in other countries because there's no border checks. No worries about having to leave the zone within 90 days.

    • @PaulJWells
      @PaulJWells 2 года назад +1

      @@CoCody_ It's true that there are few (not always zero) border checks within the Schengen zone but your passport will be checked and stamped when you enter the zone and when you leave. The 90 days applies to the whole zone as if it were a single country. You then have to spend time somewhere else before you can return but this could be a non-Schengen European country like Croatia or Cyprus. The way the rule works is that on any given day you count back 180 days and you are not allowed to exceed 90 of them in the zone. (so two weeks after your first 90 days you could return for two weeks for example.)

    • @rubensnogueira5838
      @rubensnogueira5838 2 года назад +3

      @@CoCody_ correct me if I misunderstood you, but yes, there is a limit of 90 days for the entire Schengen area unless you are, well, a regular (tax) resident in one of those countries. So you can't enter and spend, let's say, 2 months per year in each country as a tourist. Tax nomad? No, it won't work. Check the best tax deal inside the EU and become a tax resident there, it's simply the best option.

    No Amazon prime in Indonesia, but I get food and or things delivered in minutes via Tokopedia / gojek apps. It’s a thousand times more convenient living in Indonesia compared to Switzerland where I used to live. In Switzerland I used to get a cleaner to come once a week for 4 hours - here I pay about a quarter what I used to pay, but for someone to come every day. Switzerland is an amazing place however, and I loved living there, but the taxes are high on earned income in the bigger cantons like Geneve - amazing skiing and outdoors life - but everything is ridiculously expensive. Personally I like the buzz of SE Asia, and the money goes a lot further here…

    I have very mixed feelings watching videos like this. Freedom to move around and spend time where you are happier is great, but taxes are how governments pay for stuff that we ask them to do, so seeking the lowest available tax rate seems anti-social to me. I want to be a citizen, not a parasite. Also, as an American, I virtually worship the E.U. governance ... they actually work to help their people, not just their big political donors as politicians do in the USA. I'd be happy to pay a reasonable tax rate to get free services that I care about and to have a government that is pro-consumer.
