I went for the washtower due to the size of my wash area. It just barely fits so I can open the wash door to get to my clothes. If I got any other washer/dryer set they'd be hanging out the back door of my house!

Yes. You can wash a load at the same time another is drying. I do this all the time.
What's the best comparable option at 24 inches wide?
Miele with their heat pump dryer is the best.

Depends.....I like the stack, but it depends on your set up
