Nicely done .few years back I heard same recommendation for try breeding at least once . before you know it I had multiple grow out tanks lol .very satisfied with the experience .
Great video bro I use a pen cap I actually stripped some of my peacocks yesterday also I put a little pressure on there cheeks works well for me good luck with those eggs
Very nice very nice. Doesnt take anything fancy lol. Even though I'm sure you also have access to plenty of Bobby pins, theres gotta be at least 50 right now under our couch lol
Nice Adam, you always seem to have fry popping up ... at what day/point would you pry the mouth to get the fry out if you Don't have an egg tumbler??? I Noticed one of my Mbuna holding, maybe a 2 weeks ago so I put her in a fully cycled 5.5g to spit out in peace...Curious at what stage they could survive in a small tank without being tumbled..{I believe this is the same mom that gave me fry about 4 months ago, I swear her mouth was puffed up for 30 days..] hope this rambling made sense...LOL
If you dont have a tumbler then you woildnt ever pry her mouth open, she will spit them out around the 18 to 22 day mark. When she spits them they will be free swimming
I have a breeding pair of Green Severums (not mouth brooders), they laid eggs a bunch of times and I kept on trying to hatch them myself, I always failed. At some point I decided to let nature run its course and the parents successfully managed to grow the fry themselves. Nine months later I have beautiful 4-5" Severums. As you said, the feeling of seeing them go from eggs to full size is amazing!!! Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time selling them :'(
I had babies and I am going to move them out of the egg tumbler and into another tank soon. I was wondering if I can put the mom with them or if she won’t recognize them and try and eat them.
Hey, nice video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 😌 I noticed at 6:50 there is a plant in your aquarium. Is it a live Dieffenbachia Green Magic plant? If so, I did not think they could live submerged in the water. How do you care for it?
I have OB peacock which I didn't know it has eggs in her mouth when I was about to clean their tank. I transfered her in a bucket and she released the fries with egg sac naturally without my help. They are now maybe a half or 3/4 of a centimeter in size. Now I have another female with eggs in her mouth. It's the 4th day. Is it advisable to strip the eggs early this stage or should I wait atleast 2 weeks or 3 weeks? As I read online a female can hold eggs/fry in her mouth upto 3-4weeks.
Hey Adam I just stripped my first female and I have her eggs in a egg tumbler. After about 3 days some eggs have kept their light brown color like the eggs in your video but also have some turning white. Is this normal? What do the white eggs mean?
Hello, white eggs mean they arent fertilized. They gradually turn white and start floating. You will want to remove those if possible because they will begin rotting and they could potentially spread fungus to your healthy eggs
GREAT VIDEO!! I JUST LET EM SPIT NATURAL...I have no idea how that fish let you open her mouth without thrashing...my OB female was the worst...She kept flipping out...I have not mastered the technique...so natural spitters for me
Thanks for watching man, sometimes I get lucky and the female stays calm. I do like letting them hold naturally when possible but sometimes these larger haps harass holding females so i strip so she can go back to eating sooner
Oh yeah man that's a great method for sure. The larger predator haps give me issues with smaller tanks for holding females. My large females are in the 300 which they are used to. When I move a holding female into a 20 long or 40 breeder sometimes they freak out due to lack of space and either spit the eggs or hurting themselves smashing into the glass
@@adamc7918 GEEZ....man you never know what your gonna get with this hobby! Hey it really whatever works when you try it and try to stick with it...crazy stuff...keep it up brotha...we need you!!!
hey mr Adam C try next time to use a baby ear washer to strip the eggs....i seen it here on youtube some where ....the guy fills it with water opens fishes mouth with it and squeezes it and all the eggs out. its freaking amazing how easy this works it gets all of them in seconds i wont do it any other way from now on try it
So I am new to this... how did you get the eggs into the tumbler after removed from the female’s mouth? I know they are super fragile so what is the best way?
Depends on the type as well. Some fish imo will not hold naturally in a tank. Regardless if it's in the colony tank or in a tank by themselves. I just bought a tumbler because of this ;)
Generally the minimum recommended tank size for the predator haps is minimum 6 foot long and minimum 18 inches front to back. Obviously bigger is better
I'm a first time breeder but I'm living the cichlid fry colours, Malawi cichlids, blue and yellow male, orange female, male has stripes so all the fry have stripes bothe blue and orange, now second batch is still being held I'm waiting for my egg tumbler but she is in a breeding box for now
No I sold the furcicauda right after i initially posted that hybrid video last month, I just used the clip showing fish breeding. The batch I stripped is pure from about 2 weeks ago
We put a batch of eggs in our tumbler and are worried because they seem to be floating too high in the tumbler. Just fertilized eggs right now, no development with tails or anything. Worried about them coming into full fry form.
Curious Ive never done this before and I just had a female Holding and when I went to move her into a container to segregate/strip her she spit around 6 out, not sure if there’s more in there or she swallowed the rest but my two questions are: how do you move her without her spitting and how long do you wait to actually move her after u notice she’s holding
Sure there are a few things u can do to help, just let them adjust. Doing a small water change daily can help as well as many small feedings as opposed to 1 or 2 large feedings
@@anthonycarr7720 i tried this experiment one tank on a drip system and 3 feeding a day the other weekly water changes and feeding once a day......6 months later both the fry are the same size....so growing fry faster is just a myth
I wouldn't say it's a myth. I also wouldnt say its guaranteed. I also did experiments with it. Completely separated fry, both in 20 longs. 1 tank I did my normal changes and feedings. The other i did more feedings and more changes. After 8 months one group was 1/3 inch longer. After a year a half inch longer
She is a young mom and young ones tend to spit out or eat their eggs. She did it twice the previous month so this time I wanted to make sure I got some of the eggs

@@adamc7918 No, they'll only "adopt". I tried a couple of LFSes in my area

Awesome video thx 👍. Liked and subscribed
How do you know if holding eggs are fertilized? Do they go from orange to black or some other visible change while in the mother’s mouth? Thank you !!
Usually infertiziled eggs become white and float easily. Fertilized stay heavier and are normally a brownish orange
6:24 Mama cichlid is like, "Oh, these are mine!"
Lol. Thanks for watching
What color will be eggs be in the tumbler that aren’t fertilized or rotted that I will have to remove? So far my eggs looks great brownish color
They start to fade to a lighter color and start floating

What is the name of product you used for the eggs
And where i can buy from
It is called an egg tumbler. I get mine on Amazon, or you can find at most fish shops

You would need to make sure the eggs are always moving

Where and how do you sell your fish once they are big enough to sell?
Hello, I no longer sell them unfortunately
Thanks for the info Adam!!

So do you recommend always stripping when they are eggs or do you also strip when they are fry?

How do you tell a female from a male?
Males are colorful and females stay brown or silver. Also females have more rounded fins, males get pointy
Why can't she just keep her eggs until she spits them out? Our peacock just spit out her babies today.
