I'm really loving this series as it really strips away all of the "polish" and "shine" that comes with RUclips golf. Thanks for documenting this and sharing your experience and vulnerability. Competitive golf is a different animal and it really takes the right mental attitude to grind and be in the right head space. These failures only lead to bigger successes and appreciation as long as you trust your process. Always Press!!
@@NamesFrenchy I agree with you. It’s just a different way of showing a side of the game we love which I prefer. RUclips creators are offering up a variety of content that won’t click with everyone. As long as they stay in their lanes, viewers should be treated to great content and can pick which suits their mood or preferences.
Thank you Ben, I am a junior golfer( going through swing/ Grip changes) and my favorite thing is to sit down and watch a video of you grinding it out on the course tournament or not, and being able have some form of a example of adversity to show me that "golf is hard"
As a competitive junior golfer who strives to be a pro this video in particular it's so helpful to see how a pro like you handles tough situations mentally. Please keep making videos like this! Thank you so much these videos always make my day!
Im 62 and decided to make a radical swing change. My swing sucked and I knew it....Took me a year to stop my right hip from firing and being on my right toe with my right knee all bent funny half way through my downswing. I Couldn't feel it, but the video was clear. Never been so frustrated in my life! Finally got rid of that and the cascading positive effects are now gaining momentum. First time in my life my index is single digits. At 62! Name another sport:). Love your content. Golf is hard.
Ben you need to do a video on short putts - it is insane how you knock them down. Also, keep it going! My last event I had a complete melt down ( between 2 methods) with my chipping and I was hanging my head for 2 days, but I have bounced back and I will make it my strength! I get that from YOU. Great content and keep it up.
You made the right change! Stay the course and it will pay off. I love that square/neutral clubface at the top of your backswing, no more digging! You just need to re-educate your hands. Love the grip trainer! So does Scottie!
You’ve got a lot of heart and a ton of passion for golf Ben, and I know good things are gonna come your way. We make our own luck, and you are carving it out the best way you know how.
Two steps forward one step back For me swings changes happen out of nowhere especially the days where my mind is not thinking about any swing change. Sometimes I tell myself if there is no swing change today is going to be my last day playing golf for the rest of my life.
I subbed when you only had 700 subscribers - keep going and thanks for posting these events, warts and all -- good luck with the changes, not easy, but worth it of course (grip stance posture, repeat to infinity) -- cheers
I like what you were saying @ 6:55. When you first mentioned the lead hand grip change to weak, I immediately hoped your coach was trying to keep the trail shoulder and hip higher through transition to keep you from coming underneath. If you learn to hit punch cuts with the weak left hand, you'll really be on to something.
Kudos for showing us everything Ben. Golf is extremely difficult for just a casual round. For competitive ams it's much harder. For pros its a whole other level. You're going to make it, just keep going. You will look back on this video and smile when you get your pga card. Steady as she goes.
Golf is sport like no other its either a mental warfare when your on the course or one of the best round's of golf you have ever played. Am currently working on my iron swing tempo as well as my swing in general since I tend to either shank or chunk a lot of my shots. Cant wait to see you on tour.
I am nowhere near your level... However, that being said, I too have had to rebuild my grip recently and I share the sentiment that it feels SO WRONG! And therefore feels impossible to swing a golf club correctly. All you can do is trust the process and it will come. Love the channel. Love watching the grind. Keep pressing! 👊🏼
Stay with it Ben,you are sooooo close to it all clicking , you'll be signing a winners check in the next few weeks stay positive man,I'm here to root for you.
Really respect the grind, been through a few swing changes myself the last 18 months so i understand the pain. Scores don't actually matter while you're doing that, you just need reps. Stick with it will come good. My only caveat is that Butch Harman said this year at the masters "the best coaches will meet a player and work with what they've got". If the change feels too unnatural it may not be for you. Stick with it and see how you go
More connection and keep the structure in front of you more. Match that up with your changes and youll have control of your damn ball. LOVE your content. It is relatable af. Tournament Golf >>>
I love golf I have followed you a while i remember when you started I think we are about same ages. You’re a tough competitor and you believe in your self. You’re tough on yourself like I am and I admire that. I hope you figure out your perfect golf shot bro. God bless your team
Admire your perseverance! Swing change is tough but the rewards at the end will be worth it. Take your coaches advice to heart, if the conditions require you to go with a stronger grip do it, then go back to the new grip right away… Cheers from 🇨🇦!
Im working through the same feel that you’re talking about at 6:53. I play about 2-4 times a week and am still getting used to it after 3 months. I find it especially hard with longer irons. I tend to hit big pushed with them and feel like I really have to release the club to hit them straight. I also really struggle to hit a knock downs! You’ll kill it, I’m just waiting for it to all line up!
I’m a regular guy who plays a tournament or two per year. I’ve got a young kid now, so I can count the number of 18 hole rounds I play in a year on one hand. Played a mid-open yesterday. Went out with 3 goals: stay focused, stay positive, and play every single shot to the best of my ability. Happy to say I accomplished those. I did inexplicably shank 3 separate sub 80 yard wedges into the hazard, which was wild. Ended up 3rd in my flight, but delete those 3 shanks and one other bizarrely bad wedge, and it’s a top 10 overall. Golf is hard. Tournament golf is harder. It’s all good fun though. Good luck Ben!
For left hand and left side dominance, Ben Hogan's 5-Lessons Book illustrates the left-hand-heel pad grip picture for lefthand, and left side dominance in the release phase of the downswing. His book shows a picture of balancing the club with only the left index finger, and the heel pad of the left hand. Thus, the heel pad of the lefthand presses against the top of the club handle to "flip" the club around to square the clubface just before impact. The hand action at the final hands release phase to square the clubface just before impact is shown in another picture later in his book. This picture is overly tiny to clearly show how the lefthand heel pad works. One way to get the feel of the lefthand heel pad action is at setup to tilt and rise the club up with the clubhead above the head straight ahead of the face and head. Wiggle the clubhead rapidly slightly left and right using the lefthand heel pad to press on the top end of the club handle. The clubhead will wiggle at amazing speeds back and forth, left and right, showing how the lefthand heel pad grip will square up the clubface rapidly with amazing speed just before impact.
Great job on all the work you are doing. Every athlete has these type of transitions in sport, especially in individual sport. It will all work out soon.
Been there man. That wind was rough too. My heart broke with every short putt missed, and the 2 in the water on 17 in round 1. Keep doing your thing tho man I'm sure it'll pay off.
When I had my grip weaker, lead thumb tip on top dead center of grip, low shots meant I had to aim left with ball back in stance 2 balls. Same neutral swing but aim left as it will come out low right naturally. Just careful with keeping the face square, a weak grip allows for more range of motion towards the cut side, and if you're starting it low right it's close to a low slice. That can be a great shot to have out of and under trees though..
Bro i feel this on so many levels. I played some northern pga tour tourneys and struggled heavily. Your message at the end really inspired me to get back on that horse. Really would like to just improve and play some more qualifiers
Keep at it, buddy! I’m around a scratch handicap and watching your progress really makes me want to look into playing more competitive golf. I’m a corporate pilot and am in Florida all the time, let’s play. In the meantime, our fingers are crossed for a good outcome with this approaching hurricane.
Ben, any time you feel like you’re struggling with the game, come play a round with me. You’ll feel instantly better. 😂 Today, I flushed a 4-hybrid onto a narrow green from 220 yds out on my second shot of a par 5. I was at the bottom tier of the green about 35 feet away, pin on the top tier. I proceeded to four putt. Putter almost went in the water today. 😭
I can relate. I'm an honest 15 index and my last round was looking special for me, sub 80 was WELL in play. Then proceeded to 3 putt the last 3 holes and shot 81. As a note, I average 28.9 putts a round and ended up with a 34 putt day, I hate this game sometimes.
@@TMar1961 the handicap system is nuts though. My average has been +15 over the last twenty rounds, but from what I understand, it only counts your best eight rounds out of your last 20. I’ve only broke 80 three times this year and two of those were in this last 20, so I’m sitting at 11.5 (even though I feel like I should be closer to 15).. But I could’ve used your putting today. I had three three-putts and the above mentioned four-putt. 37 putts total today, and I even chipped in on #7 for a birdie. But yeah, those missed sub-80 rounds hurt when you’re so close coming down the stretch. Yesterday, I needed par on the last three for 79, and bogeyed them all. 😑
Weakening your grip is gonna lead to the higher flippier misses. It sucks. I used to have the same problem with the left miss, went super weak trying to get the fade, and now I have the high spinny right miss. I feel your pain brother 🤦🏼♂️😂 keep pushing though, golf is a mental battle more than physical
Advertising for Decade in a video where you stubbornly made an 8 instead of thinking is bold. Haha I bet Scott had your ass for this one. Love the tour videos as always, music choice was great this time too!
Very good round other then the one hole! Grip changes are just the worst especially if going from strong to neutral or weak you get those floating right shots so I got he wind is way tougher! You almost have to go back to strong for the strong into the wind shots!
So many tour players indicate they are about touch and feel, but Ben is very technical. He's learning the Florida greens, and only on Hole 8 did he rush and make a silly bogey. And Hole 17 was an experiment. And the second round was crazy because of the storm. But he's hitting more fairways off the tee, so overall his game is improving in spite of what he says.
Ive done all of the grips nnd the advantage to that is that all of them feel comfortable now. you can change for whatever shot you are about to hit :) you should also stretch your wrists alot. usually people that have weaker grips have very flexible wrists. so they can turn it down no Matter what.
Thank you for the content Ben, I am going through a swing change myself where I am having to correct an overly shallow back swing and I feel like I cant make a good swing to safe my life :(
Have you tried looking into playing bigger grips? Personally, I could not just use a weak/neutral grip on a standard grip. Built up to midsize +4 and it felt so much more secure. Good luck on your journey through the swing changes tho!
Love the series Ben! Would you ever consider doing some swing coaching? I’d happily pay for your thoughts on my swing via video review. One thing i struggle with is weight distribution at setup, do you feel like your weight kind of sits in your glutes? That’s what it looks like at least from an amateur watching you.
Hey Ben, in case you didn’t know. I love your videos and aspire to collab with you in a 1v1, one day when I’m better. You continue to remind me to keep grinding and getting better. Definitely my favorite YT channel/golfer.

I’m bad at golf but I always play better when I just focus on the target and don’t think too much about the grip and swing and just do a comfortable natural motion
My grip for wedges through 8 iron is weaker than 7-4 iron. I have to close the face a hair on the weaker grip because my shots tend to leak a little right but distance control is much better.

Every golfer out there has been in that situation after a really bad hole great job to step away and refocus so hard to do and easy to just let it go.

i’m been making the same swing change too. trust me it’s worth sticking with it

Besides hole 17 on the first round, you left a lot of birdies in the plate. I know you’re focusing on the grip change, but don’t forget putting.

Have you thought about going with the larger grips like the Jumbomax? They do help a lot especially people that tend to hit a hook left.
ben, it just takes time. It is not about holding it inside your house it is the months of being at the range with the new grip; at least it was for me

Sticking with you during the good times and the bad times . . .

I cannot believe they had you playing in that weather. That is insane.
Way to go dude 😎
I’ve made the same change in the last 12 months and my scores have dropped, I will say that I do go back to the strong grip occasionally for similar situations

I’m not a golf guru. But one Bryson D. tip he continues to share in his training videos is that if a change doesn’t work right away ditch it. Just throwing that out there.
Hello little brother, your doing the grind, hang in there my man . . . . .⛳🏌♂⛳

hope youre staying safe with the Hurricanes in the florida region

Appreciate the support man, that week was tough!
