@TFCollector I'm so disappointed, what's the point of a Superior that's 40% one bot and 50% accessories? That's not a Combiner that's Armada Optimus Super Mode with 4 very large Mini-cons. I know CW wasn't ideal but really again? That only fits Menasor (and maybe Bruticus)
It's certainly not a combiner per se. However, I don't know, I can't quite hate this method, at least for Menasor. If it was for any of the other Scramble City Combiners, I would definitely balk as much. Maybe this mechanism is tickling the wannabe Megazord engineer in me. This screams like a great mechanism for an Ultrazord or something. Also, it all came about as a result of trying to be SUPER toon accurate...which was going to be a big problem in of itself. However, like with Kingdom Rodimus' battlestation to emulate the G1 toy, I take the same stance with Menasor: EXCELLENT execution of a not-so-great idea. A tooning Menasor done VERY well. Do I still wish they had the engineered option for the leg cars to be in front and still be a cohesive figure? YES! Do I wish they at least gave the option of stickers a la GS Cyclonus and Galvatron for those who want to replicate the old toy's car undersides having tons of colored detail? That would at least been the bare minimum. But I find there is an interesting lore idea to doing this system. Perhaps the Cons' attempt at designing an upgrade that would be an early form of Super Ginrai or Star Saber's own mechanisms. But I really understand your feelings on how, especially on the legs, this doesn't feel like a Combiner. Like what you said about Blitzwing, it's more of a toon-leaning action figure than being a Transformer, or in this case, a combiner. Unlike Blitzwing, though, the lore on this one can be finagled better as a cope.
The old team definitely has more style. But Legacy has them beat in stability, accuracy, and poseability. Also, gotta give props to Dragstrip for being such a great lead into the team.
In all I love the Combiners War Menasor because he has a certain originality to him but the legacy Menasor redeemed combiner wars Menasor because of sculpture and G1 look. Got them and love them both.
I actually like the new set up as they look more toon then toy & im always for that! Also def get the DNA upgrade kit! As it makes him taller & a better sword also has a chest that’s more toy looking!
Epic review TF Collector!! I cannot decide which version of Menasor is the better version, since the CW Stunticons have the scramble city gestalt transformation, and as you said they are bulkier figures then Legacy Menasor. lol Keep on being amazing..
I’m all about toon accuracy so not sweating the lack of authenticity when it comes to combining feature. I’m gonna display this in Menasor form and prob never think about it again. Plus the upgrade kit will only make this an even sweeter looking bot. Also, vehicle legs were never in front so not sure why people would request that. Legacy figures are all about replicating the animated models not adding incorrect or unnecessary features.
The big glaring difficulty in comparing the two is: motormaster went from a voyager to a commander - and on top of that - they simplified the transformations by making the limbs car armor - so the sum effect is more budget with less for that budget to accomplish - of course legacy is going to work better. In terms of my preferences, I prefer the execution of legacy but the idea of combiner wars. Overall, I have to side with legacy because the cw alt mode not working properly makes it the loser between the two to me. If the combined mode of cw were very solid, I would prefer it because copying g1 cartoon look is super boring to me. Whether it's scramble city or not is secondary to whether it's solidly functional. Because of the budget being higher and the goal being easier on legacy, it's difficult for me to say one is actually better.
I totally agree about the execution versus concept. I just wish they had invested resources on executing the old concept better this time around. I'm even ok with the idea of a Leader or Commander Motormaster that uses the trailer to beef up the combined mode. I think it could have been done while still keeping the Combiner Wars system intact.
Im a fan of the g1 aesthetics, so I’m going for the legacy Menasor. I just hope Hasbro makes more Motor Masters because now they’re going for more than double the original price on eBay.
The only reason why I decided to pick up the Legacy Menasor was because I was only able to get the G2 Menasor from Combiner Wars. I ended up finding Offroad in the secondary market. For the Legacy Menasor, I got the size appropriate weapons from Larkin.
I suppose one question raised by the new one is if you feel the addition of the stunticons is worth increasing the price from Commander to Titan? 4 $25 figures put the completed Menasor at $180 US, and if you want to give him upgrade kits or toyhaxing, it gets even more expensive.
You can open the tower and clip it on Menasor's back as "wings" and he can't hold the gun via one of the handles. I think, overall, my Takara-Tomy version, with PE upgrade parts, is the vest version though. As for Volcanicus and Pirranahcon, they were floppy messes. Pirranahcon couldn't even really stand up properly due to the weak joints. My Skalor can't even stand up in beast mode.
I like Legacy Menasor more, but it's a miss that he lost the chance to be customized like the combiners in CW. Great review. I was looking forward to this one.
I agree, it's a great looking robot but it has nothing to do with a combiner, it's purely an "attacher". I hope Hasbro chooses the combing aspect again if they decide to do other teams.
Imagine if they made legacy optimus Maximus and just remolded legacy menasor. They would just have smokescreen as wildrider since off road got abandoned.
That was more due to a limited budget than engineering necessity. John Warden talked about Combiner Wars basically being a proving ground to corporate to convince them to invest more in the brand than they were at the time. They had to really made a limited mold selection stretch.
Im a fan of getting things that are new rather than trying to be accurate, so i find cw better in my opinion. Just in terms of playability, and even color wise, cw is so much more fun. Not to say legacy is bad, its just my tastes lean toward cw
Great Reviews. Ultimately I understand why Hasbro/TT remade the Stunticons so soon after CW. But I don't think we need to do all the teams over again as some want. There are still other combiners such as Road Caesar, Landcross etc ( A proper full size Dinoking, not the core class one that is highly speculated) . I want those combiners we don't have modern takes on before they fully dive back into what was done back in 2015 etc.
I think the idea of using the molds more than once ruined the combiner wars version of Menasor. So, I would have liked to see Hasbro continue on the combiner war route only with better joints and other improvements. Awesome comparison!
I like it... But hate the legs... I wish the legs had some more details. Like showing the detail from the underside from each car. I'm still waiting on my Legacy Breakdown from BBTS...
I'm glad people are getting a Stunticon team closer to what they want. For me, I prefer the playability and customization of the CW team. Their combined mode isn't the best, kind of monstrous (I headcanon it as they're actually not a team that works well together or likes each other very much, therefore their combined mode doesn't get all the way there.) and the individual bots have a lot of personality. Still love CW Dragstrip's headsculpt.
I agree with what you mentioned within your video. I honestly feel cheated with the new Menasor , it just doesn't feel earned like the CW Menasor. For what is worth I have been always fan of the flaws the CW had, not perfect but I enjoy it every single time, there is something about doing all the limbs that is so satisfactory. Hasbro had something special back in 2015!
If you want your mix and match combiners, you have combiner wars, if you want hyper cartoon accurate, you have Legacy, if you want both, mix and match and hyper accurate? then you are asking for something nearly impossible from a toy engineering perspective.
It's only impossible if you want hyper accuracy to the cartoon because that design has its own transformation scheme that this figure matches near perfectly. I prefer the more toy based designs for the gestalts, complete with universal limbs. It's all just a matter of preference.
I never liked the fact that one couldn't interchange the limbs, it takes back the replayability a combiner has. I'm not a fan on sticking vehicles on a larger robot more like accesories. That was lazy, but it works. Never liked Motormaster's trailer being too short & they could solved better the transformation without leaving extra parts laying around. All the budget went to Motormaster & Dragstrip. The other 3 stunticons were more of a letdown. The only Stunticon I like is Dragstrip. Sadly for me Menasor is a pass. The prices they are charging nowdays are making collecting more difficult.
I prefer the Legacy Menasor, though i do miss the combiner wars interchangeable of limbs and body. CW poses like shit and has horrible articulation, so you can't really play with it after combining it. This Menasor is stable and I can play with it, and it looks better IMO. but Legacy breakdown is total garbage, lazy and cheap
Stunticon Legace was a better aproach. Retooling is a good thing. If you want perfection you pay for MP or 3rd party are available but Genertions offers the best imperfection for you dollar. YoungToys crushes Takara Hasbro Transfomers on quality but your not you don't chase after them. MP quality should be sold at generations prices but they aren't. The problem is not egineering it os big box stores. Toys were a)owed to sit on the shelves until the 90s. Credit card intrest was Defuctable until 1986. So impulse toy purchases were easy.

I prefer the Legacy ones only because they aren't remolds of previous figures like how most of the combiners in CW were, except Devastator and Predaking who were hands down the best ones out of the bunch.
