Jonas was originally broadcast in February 1975, but in 1992 it was repeated as part of Radio 4's 'Christmas Spirits' season of ghost plays. Christmas Spirits wasn't just a load of repeats, however, and included a number of new productions which I hope to get round to on the channel soon - including a radio adaptation of Don Taylor's 'The Exorcism'. That play is best known as an episode of the TV series Dead of Night, and starred Anna Cropper. Cropper also appears in 'Jonas', the tale of a Ouija Board that turns out ot be cursed (aren't they all?)
MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure: / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn
If you're interested to know more about the century-long history of ghost and horror stories broadcast at Christmas on British television and radio, you might like to check out HOLLY WRAITHS (and its companion volume HOLLY TERRORS), an A-Z guide available in paperback and ebook from Amazon and Lulu.com.
Excellent .! Intriguing intelligent entertainment .
ie. The sort of thing long vanished from TV and
becoming increasingly rare on radio .! ( not diverse
enough and doesn't tick whichever boxes are trendiest )
Very enjoyable. Thanks. Well worth a listen.
Cracking story,thanks👍
Don’t normally enjoy supernatural tales. This one’s excellent! Btw I usually don’t like supernatural stories because many are boring.
Different. Intriguing ending.
"We've plenty of time for another rubber" 🤔
How could any woman refuse to…..😂😂
Why are these plays so damn bourgeois
Well that one is cos it's made in 1975 by Radio 4. I know what you mean, though.
Taking into account prevailing alpha male attitude of the times, I still hear it today and THAT'S what I find scary! X😁🎄
Darling, she was buggering up the Bridge game after all!
WTF
i prefer ghost stories about ordinary people not university professors and clerics
You may also like The Exorcism - again, it's about a small group of ordinary people rather than Jamesian academics...
@@mysteriousmagpie The Exorcism is amazing (both radio and TV versions). I saw it as a kid and it left its mark.
Agreed its brilliant. I've heard it loads of times and never get bored @jwsuicides8095
Great story but the constant arguing in the dialogue is very annoying 😕
