How’s the white oxidation dust problem affecting your Padauk pieces? I see some in the creases. I just received the Shera Series Staunton from ChessBazaar in a lacquer finish to avoid the dust problem.
Thoroughly enjoyed that, including the music. Wonderful photography and specs are important also. IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER! Congratulations. In a sea of RUclips mediocrity, it was very pleasant to see perfection!
I got here by watching the 2018 World Championship Match... the chess set is a masterpiece, but what really impressed me was the music... excellent choice...!
This is so beautifully photographed and edited, very professional. The camera work is excellent. I, for one, can appreciate some latitude with the design of all the pieces. I think they're gorgeous. I ordered a very similar set, in padauk and boxwood from the chessstore that I anxiously await the arrival. They're not as pricey as some might think, listed for $700, but do look for discounts in the usual places. I saved quite a bit. These are so elegant I'll have to display them, as well as enjoy some games.

adsoargento yes I rcvd it and it's an amazing set. I got it from India (Chessbazaar.com) it's listed there as the Indian-American luxury set. I got it on sale for approx. $295. They ship via FedEx & DHL so it arrives less than a week. Also you can get the set lacquered for a reasonable price which I would recommend. The hand buffed Paduk-Rosewood pieces will oxidize requiring frequent hand buffing which is a bit of a pain. Lacquer seals the pieces so they stay shiny and prevents oxidation. The pieces are nice and heavy and just feel great when you move them.
They’re not too bad. Check out Staunton Castle and the chess empire. I got mine for close to US$300 pieces and US $425 the board and it’s like this set. Mines the Columbian set with 4.5” king made of African Paudouk and boxwood. They’re stunning!

I can see tiny white spots in some of the Red figures, and it's not the first one I have checked that problem. Is it usual in the padauk wood over time? I purchased a similar set (Imperial) but in gold palisander, and after a couple of years of intense use, still looks perfect

this is amazingly beautiful! Could you say more about the process of polishing lacquer? My chess pieces are very dull, opaque, and tried to use beeswax but the result was not the same.

Actually I think the board is just right for this size of pieces. Don't want to over crowd yout board. Not to thrilled with that King's head, but very nice.

2.5” squares board is perfect for a 1.875” King base diameter. Conversion factor I use is .765, so 1.875” / .765 = 2.45”. Love all the pieces, but can’t find this exact design anymore. Great music and photography.

What Monstrousity on earth is this??? The knights are having a bad hair day, they look like me after I wake up from a weekend in Vegas, or Tijuana.. The king's head is too bulbous and finial (cross) is way oversized & ornamental, the bishop's deep cut looks like he's trying too hard to stand out from the crowd (a poor artist's choice in my opinion. A medium sized, more diagonal cut would've done it. Sometimes less is more.) The rest of the pieces look proper. Dark pieces look amazing in that wood type. I don't like black squares in a board but in this case in contrasts well with the rich dark red. Actually, I'm sure I'd get comfortable with the set once I played a few games with it. And perhaps I would even become fond of it. So congratulations, I envy you.

buy some fine brushes and the problem is always solved for me - personally I keep the pieces in a wooden chess box :)
Yes, I clean mine with a toothbrush every 2 weeks, all my sets are displayed in a glass curio cabinet.

How is the padauk color now? is it still as red as in the vid?
This set is now 5 years old and to be honest the padauk color changed more into dark brown, but it looks still pretty actually for me.
Owh... is it closer to rosewood color now?
