Head pressure increases as the tank level increases. Hey, call a service heating guy, he knows the ins and outs, and the safety aspect of it.

The 275 tank I’ve got came with the house built in 1947 still in fine shape made out of much heavier steel than the new ones today. You should’ve just bought a used one for $50-$100 put it on the outside of the house and if you have to change it it’s a piece of cake. You would have more room in the basement and could take a nice vacation to Hawaii for $3100 that you spent for the new tank.

Here in NY, new tank is $800 at Home Depot. Find a guy to build concrete slab for the tank, drill hole in house, reroute pipes etc. it’s a wash! Plus who wants an ugly tank in your back yard? A used one? I had one of those! Also I worked for the airlines, Hawaii….yawn!

Thank You very much. Good info. I'm getting same job done mine is on order. 275 gallon Granby tank. Looks the same. $3500 here in Connecticut. Tank coming out 37 years old. Leaky tanks are risky if you ever get contamination could get expensive.

Water in the diesel fuel settling at the bottom. A Teflon coated tank would be nice. They should filter the oil going into the tank too.

U said u replaced your furnace 3 yrs ago. Who did u use? I’m going to eventually need to find another plumber to check out my boiler later this year and also service my water heater. I just had a new boiler installed last Nov…went the cheap route and used the Chinese plumber my mother has used for a long time…it works, but alot of times all we hear in our baseboard radiator pipes is water running sounds…I mean really loud. Like a faucet running water. I’ve had him come back a few times already to try to fix it…but it still makes the sounds. Has something to do with too much air getting into the system. So I’m just going to bite the bullet and find someone else.
