2) Welcome! Mizore A ringed seal, Mizore (male, born April 1, 2021), arrived from Kaiyukan, Osaka, Japan in November 2023. Only three aquariums (Kaiyukan, Kamogawa Sea World, and Otaru Aquarium) keep ringed seals in Japan. (Belonging to the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums) Mizore came to Otaru Aquarium from Kaiyukan with the idea of cooperating with other aquariums in breeding ringed seals in order to pass the baton of life of ringed seals to the future. This kind of cooperative loan of animals for breeding between aquariums and zoos is called a breeding loan. The staff will make every effort to ensure that Mizore grows up healthy and well so that he can participate in breeding.
