I enjoyed that. I remember watching Ignatieff when he appeared on TV in the UK. I don't think any leading British politicians would take part in such a light hearted TV appearance.
0:40 That's what I like about Canadian politics. There's a separation between political and private life. You can disagree with someone politically while still respecting them personally.
Good Day! Bob Rae dropping Iggy's TV ..too funny, eh! "No,...I want you to be the 3rd person to sign the guest book"! "Think of me, ...when you use this boxspring!" lol...
Did anyone notice the condo? Sparsely furnished, very few books or personal items. So, I wonder if Iggy finally sold the digs in the U.S. now that we Canadians have provided him with a home? Obviously, they were keeping their options open in case we don't make him PM, then he can just go home.
Mr Ignatieff lived in the US for 30 years. How many of us know Michael? I'm upset that we have another drone, non-spirited folk running for leadership. At least Stephane Dion put out a few smiles.
@saosonic actually harper summoned Dion, Duceppe and Layton to 24 Sussex to talk about the new session of Parliament, and all three came out saying to the press we won't support this government, so I would find that a good enough reason to say, we dont have the support of Parliament. Why wait for a confidence vote?
@oodnac First of all, the PM is not the leader of the federal party with the most MPs. The PM, constitutionally, can be any member of the House or Senate who can maintain the confidence of the House of Commons. The leader of the party with the most seats is simply the obvious choice to maintain confidence. For example, in 1985 the Ontario Liberals formed the government with 48 seats compared to the PC 52, because they were better able to maintain the support of the NDP.
Ignatieff is moving from his condo. When he leaves it, it will be empty. I guess the Mercer Report expects viewers to be aware of this piece of general knowledge.
I think they have much in common. I'm in the middle of reading Obama's first book and was very impressed with his wisdom and character shown in the second. Maybe when he comes to Canada he can give Ignantieff tips on fund raising through book sales. Ignatieff has won enough awards for his writing already. Intimidating resume indeed, but so very romantic reading in Russian to his wife (-:
You're counting the last 4 years (2005-2009) he's spent in Canada as a politician. So he was really around 24 yrs old when he left. So basically he has just spent his youth and his university days here. Actual adulthood I referred to is a bit more than getting a licence to drive or being able to participate in pub crawls at school. Most of his work productive, tax paying years were spent abroad.
It matters. He's lived his entire adult life outside of Canada. What events shaped his outlook? His experience wasn't our experience. It wasn't Meech Lake, not Mulroney years, not free trade talks, GST, our hockey wins... He's already made some gaffes (like Quebec issue ) because deep down he doesn't really get it. Good at foreign policy? That's a small part of his job, domestic policy is more important. Anyway, do we know that? I travelled a lot, still not good at foreign policy, ha, ha
@oodnac Thus, why I was responding to SC33's comment that if Parliament wishes to give confidence to another individual as PM it is not violating any votes, as we do not elect the Prime Minister directly. The Prime Minister is appointed by the GG, and his authority derives from the support of the majority within the House.
I think that only in Canada can we witness these kinds of videos.I am no fan of Iggy,I believe when he said he made the offer, 2 Harper, and I respect him for it.Throwing in Rae to the equation only made it better, brief as his part was... Canadian politicians have it right,be like real people, read Mercer@Harper's,and it is all great! I love this country.Iggy's wife and the shoe closet, classic!
@Bobzeedo fair enough, but it's completely stupid and ungrounded to hate him just because he is an academia, when all that means is that they've had a lot of schooling and are smart enough to go that far in their education
I was fortunate enough to take a university class taught by Michael. I may not agree with all of his policies, but goodness, he is a brilliant scholar and an entertaining professor, too. I'm glad he decided to stay with academia.
@oodnac No, I'm afraid you misread my comment oodnac. The Prime Minister is not directly elected; I voted for my MP in my riding, and you voted for whoever you voted for in your riding. The only people who directly elected Harper are his constituents in Calgary. That is how Parliamentary democracy functions.
@Eliterate i did not know that, if thats the case after the next election im leaving ontario or the country lol. its gettin to a point where i cant afford to fuel my camaro :(
if he is Ielected please assist those in the public housing system and the terminally ill who have to fight with health canada to get their medicinal cannabis papers
This is the first time in years since I saw this and I can't stop laughing, especially Bob Rae.
Ignatieff has the voice that can be used to make great science videos on RUclips.
I swear after seeing this it just confirms to me how Bob Rae's facial expression always looks like he's done something guilty XD
"This is the peoples beer!"
"Well no actually it's my beer I bought it."
That was the best part!
He is a genius, he really is, he was just a terrible politician.
I’m not sure about genius. Well, red. Yes.
I love it when Rick and Bob are taking out the television! Bob Rae running away is so funny!
"I feel like a real estate agent from those tacky real estate shows" OMG Rick xDD
Ignatieff kind of looks like Mr Rogers here...
I enjoyed that. I remember watching Ignatieff when he appeared on TV in the UK. I don't think any leading British politicians would take part in such a light hearted TV appearance.

Rick, you make television worth turning on. Love the Bob cameo.
"JUST VISITING" - was exactly the right campaign! LOL
Good Day!
Bob Rae dropping Iggy's TV ..too funny, eh!
"No,...I want you to be the 3rd person to sign the guest book"!
"Think of me, ...when you use this boxspring!" lol...
"some" time? Ha, ha, Except for the time he was at university here. he lived his entire adult life outside Canada
"I will get in the car, and go find the movers and zsusahna, and what'll you do, you'll sit here and lead?"
LMAO
Mercer is the greatest person alive. He needs to run for PM. He would totally get elected.
Sky ricohets in flight, after noon delight, skyricohets in flight.
(Sky rocket)
That's your theme song.
LMFAOOO Bob Rae just pops out from nowhere LMAO.

That is probably the first and ONLY time Iggy has been in Stornoway
if 3:33 made you laugh then you know your a true Canadian
Why did he have to move? Did his lease run out in the USA?
Why did he have to move? Did his lease run out in the USA? I do have new respect for Ignatieff after watching this though. He's pretty personable.
Mr Ignatieff lived in the US for 30 years. How many of us know Michael? I'm upset that we have another drone, non-spirited folk running for leadership. At least Stephane Dion put out a few smiles.
Well done, Michael! Well done, Rick! It looks like Bob Rae is also becoming a Rick Mercer sidekick! Funny stuff...
@saosonic actually harper summoned Dion, Duceppe and Layton to 24 Sussex to talk about the new session of Parliament, and all three came out saying to the press we won't support this government, so I would find that a good enough reason to say, we dont have the support of Parliament. but this is whats so great about them! they can be serious AND joke around :P

Haha, Bob Rae is renowned for that time he skinny-dipped with Rick on the Mercer Report. =D
Very funny sketch Rick ...as usual
I met Mike in London ...he probably remembers ...very nice man Rick
@Aetheilas well we kinda do need to replace our over 30 year old jets for jets that can operate better in the arctic.
Spit out your coke moment starts at 3:27. Hilarious!
Nicely done.

Needs a lot of closet space for all those skeletons.
@BlackMaven
Blue door then right?
That's the longest rick has spent with an American guest :)
hahaha Bob Rae moving stuff with rick! priceless!
@LakeErieFising Plant???
What embassy is the one at 0:38
I can't help but imagin Ignatieff suddenly tearing off his mask and revealing that he is actually Steven Harper in disguise.
@Eliterate agreed thats what i like about the american system the people get to choose their party leaders.
Canada's 23rd Prime Minister right here!!
IGGY! IGGY! IGGY!
3:30 as far as bob rae goes, it seems the TV was symbolic of ontario!
PIVOT! PIVOT! PIVOT!
Don't even know what this means, but he spends plenty of time there.
I think Ignatieff has put Obama in the shade when it comes to breadth of knowledge, learning, writing, and being involved.
LOL, Bob ran away
Ignatieff and his wife are absolutely adorable
I think that only in Canada can we witness these kinds of videos.I am no fan of Iggy,I believe when he said he made the offer, 2 Harper, and I respect him for it.Throwing in Rae to the equation only made it better, brief as his part was... "Mr. Big, you shouldn't have!"
Poor man, let me buy you tims and tell you everything will be OK.
@Bobzeedo fair enough, but it's completely stupid and ungrounded to hate him just because he is an academia, when all that means is that they've had a lot of schooling and are smart enough to go that far in their education
Haha... Bob Rae is such a good sport, in more ways than one.
@NineteenNinetyFork If you look at recent polls NDP are higher than the liberals, 28% NDP, 23% Liberal, 33% Conservatives.
who is the 2nd guy in the suit that helps rick. brake ignatieff's t.v
Who is that guy at 3:30?
I mean who is the guy at 3:33?
LMAO BOB RAE RUNS AWAY!!!
That's Bob Rae, also a Liberal. Used to be the Premier of Ontario but he was NDP then.
Chretien and Trudeau, the greatest PM's ever! Iggy I wish would join this rank!
I was fortunate enough to take a university class taught by Michael. I may not agree with all of his policies, but goodness, he is a brilliant scholar and an entertaining professor, too. I'm glad he decided to stay with academia.
There's a difference between working with people and threatening them with elections, exploiting their opponents' financial vulnerability.
Mr.Big hahahha atta guy ignatieff!
Old Iggy, he scratched his bum
He said "Harper lad, thee's had thee fun"
My Liberals will win the day
O'er the hills and far away.
HAHAA that TV piece was amazing! so funny

Hahaha!! 2 men & a boy!!

@oodnac No, I'm afraid you misread my comment oodnac. The Prime Minister is not directly elected; I voted for my MP in my riding, and you voted for whoever you voted for in your riding. Pathetic? I rather well-read, loyal, intelligent or free.
It's okay. Iggy would be better off never watching TV again.
Iggy looks like Mr. Rogers
if he is Ielected please assist those in the public housing system and the terminally ill who have to fight with health canada to get their medicinal cannabis papers
I LOVE YOU, IGGY
I love Ignatieff and his wife! So proud to be a Liberal...
