I feel like I kinda agree with deryck and cone..if the bass is higher it kinda gets mixed in with the guitars and you can't tell there's any bass sometimes lol. it's not great when it's too repetitive, but cone just changed the octave so it's not really changing much. It'd be cool if they used both those parts. But seriously Idk why all the comments are about this and him being selfish..I'm sure it happens with every band. They just wanted what was best for the song, that's what creates a better song anyways. I thought this vid was interesting ✌
I agree with Cone. As a bassist, i hate playing that same note progression or following the guitar in every song. So i like going high or doing a walk sometimes too just to add something different. Thats why guys like Matt Freeman or Mike dirnt are some of my favorite in punk rock/pop punk
All these comments about Deryck being selfish etc. When he does 90% of the work, don't you think he is entitled to do this? Any one of you with any sense would do the exact same. Deryck is the major reason the band is famous. Let him do his thing.
Especially when you look at the album booklet the only song on the record that Deryck didn't write by himself was the title track. He wrote 99% of the record by himself and produced it. He's completely entitled
I think that Deryck was right. I'm a bassist myself, and also play guitar, and also a songwriter and I see what he was going for and it really wouldnt have been as powerful if he had gone higher, done what he wanted to do.
Sum 41 is excellent in making repetitive songs on one album. In my opinion, Chuck is the most versatile album they made. Underclass Hero has got some cool tracks, but after listening to the first 3 tracks, you don't need to really listen to everything to get the impression of the album (except for King of the Contradiction).
I like how the band which are saying they’re trying to push boundaries, start arguing about the bass player wondering up the dusty part of the neck because it’s too un-bass-like 🤣 Well done boys...
hmmz its good that cone wanted the octave thing...cause underclass hero has alot of that catchy g,d,em,c chord progressions... but...how deryck it wanted was better..it fits the song more..
Cone's bass cant even be heard on most Sum 41 songs! Deryck should of let him do it, when deryck said its not a bass going up there? What does he think they made a 19th fret for?
I’m gonna take a wicked shot in the dark here, correct me if I’m wrong but, I THINK there’s a song called “Underclass Hero” on the album Underclass Hero. I could be wrong tho, that song might’ve been on Enema of the State or maybe Sum 41’s latest album, Dude Ranch. Idk man I’m just guessing here.
I know it sounds like he's conceited in this video talking about himself a lot but he is the guitar player, they write almost to all of the songs for his band. That's why he talks about himself a lot writing.
i agree with you people, Cone should have to decide a little bit more ? Cause he is actually the bass player? Its he´s instrument and deryck should listen to him ? cause he is the one who can the instrument most. I like cone, i like deryck, but there is three in the band, not only one. BUt i guess they solve everything so its cool.
i know its obviously good to listen and to try out other things but if you are dead set on something YOU have written by yourself then its hard to change it i guess =/
You'd assume that for Good Charlotte's father as well. Maybe he just doesn't want to be part of Deryck's life. It sucks, but it's life. Some people are dicks.
i can understand where both dyreck and cone are coming from arguing over that bass part, but dyreck wrote the song and thats what HE wants it to be and its fucking annoying when someone in your band doesnt play it the way it is written
Kieren Alder Deryck was being very nice, but lots of people are too controlling in bands. When parts are changed by other people in their own way, magic happens.
Às much as im gonna get ripped for this, i think deryck was right. the base is the core of the song, and if that goes out of repitition the song will sound wierd. however, they could have had everyone go down and octube or just one guitar...
He's being a tool here, the bass sounds way better going an octave higher. Mark Hoppus does it a lot in Blink and it adds to the songs, like in Carousel. It sounds wayyyyyy better It makes a generic chord progression a bit more interesting
Basically Deryck hates the bass, he wants it to all be about guitars and bass cant just be boring all the time, Cone's way would of worked so much better
MM that's true, but it's kinda stupid if a bandmate can take the song in a new direction that actually sounds better. Always be open for improvement, instead of being stuck up your own arse is probably the moral of this comment :P
yea, its like he gets bass to do what he wants it to do, then he has all the time in the world to do whatever parts he wants when no one else there. its bullshit imo
I feel like I kinda agree with deryck and cone..if the bass is higher it kinda gets mixed in with the guitars and you can't tell there's any bass sometimes lol. it's not great when it's too repetitive, but cone just changed the octave so it's not really changing much. Haha the arguing in the band is so classic
Just throwing this out there; I have the same shoes as Deryck.
what are those? Now i got curious :D
MinGamingKanal T.U.K Creepers. The model is A6155. :)
Haha, thx
Matt Hayes I have the same shoes as Albus Dumbledore but I'm not complaining!
+MinGamingKanal you predicted the future. WHAT ARE THOOOOOSE
Cone-"it's alright to tell me, what you think about me"
Deryck-"I won't try to argue, or hold it, against you"
Ironic it's the same chord progression 2:19
@@Grey-sq7dy chord prog is a lil different last chord isn’t the same
@hairy hippo testicles Its the same just in B instead of C
I agree with Cone. As a bassist, i hate playing that same note progression or following the guitar in every song. So i like going high or doing a walk sometimes too just to add something different. Thats why guys like Matt Freeman or Mike dirnt are some of my favorite in punk rock/pop punk
Mark hoppus has some fun bass lines
fucking perfect album
hahah wish i could say the same but i am a huge fan of Sum 41..i think i just came across them one day on youtube and fell in love with there music
How can Deryck take such a generic riff so serious?
lol deffs sounds better when he goes to the higher octave on bass.
I'm quite fond of Deryck, but he needs to accept that this is not only his project.
As much as I like Deryck the most, he definitely was a dictator
they arguing over if they should do one octave higher or not lmao
I wanna see "Making of Screaming Bloody Murder" ^^
All these comments about Deryck being selfish etc. When he does 90% of the work, don't you think he is entitled to do this? Any one of you with any sense would do the exact same. Deryck is the major reason the band is famous.

Travis A.
EXACTLEY! Deryck is a genius
a band is a unit, not a dictatorship
and i'm pretty sure what he was singing in the video was the exact thing in the album
The bass is not the center of the song. The bass is there to add depth to the rhythm and harmony.
I think that Deryck was right. I'm a bassist myself, and also play guitar, and also a songwriter and I see what he was going for and it really wouldnt have been as powerful if he had gone higher, done what he wanted to do.
thank you so much!!!
nice
What mic is he singing into at 3:00 and out?
But you do listen to every song cus there all pretty cool :D
The most Canadian argument ever

The ending of Pull The Curtain
@deadman66654 yeah thats wat the song Dear Father is about
I like how the band which are saying they’re trying to push boundaries, start arguing about the bass player wondering up the dusty part of the neck because it’s too un-bass-like 🤣
Well done boys...
Looking at this Cone wanted to try playing a bassline different give him credit
well deryck said he wanted an album that means alot to him so in a way I kinda get why he wants to change Cone's ideas.. but still i agree with you
If Dave had been there, they were not discussing:L
hmmz its good that cone wanted the octave thing...cause underclass hero has alot of that catchy g,d,em,c chord progressions...
but...how deryck it wanted was better..it fits the song more..

ive never seen cones 41 tattoo
what is deryck talking about?
@Regited Well maybe his parents got drunk or something and never even learned eachothers name? Or soomething like that
the end part that no one ever talks about in pull the curtain is perfect
what song did they make in the underclass hero album., ?
I’m gonna take a wicked shot in the dark here, correct me if I’m wrong but, I THINK there’s a song called “Underclass Hero” on the album Underclass Hero. I could be wrong tho, that song might’ve been on Enema of the State or maybe Sum 41’s latest album, Dude Ranch. Idk man I’m just guessing here.
i agree with you =) i guess its just down to personal preference so whatever =)
then the last part of pull the curtain at 3:00
I know it sounds like he's conceited in this video talking about himself a lot but he is the guitar player, they write almost to all of the songs for his band. That's why he talks about himself a lot writing.
can anyone please tell me what song he is playing at 5:42-5:52?
Probably Best of Me.
Yes, I’m 9 years late, but somehow this popped up. See ya
whats the song that deryck sings at 2:51 to 2.58?
Pull the curtain
Poor Deryck. He looks sooooo old!!!
what was the song at 3:10?
Pull the curtain
@deadman66654 not allegedly
i agree with you people, Cone should have to decide a little bit more ? Cause he is actually the bass player? p.s i meant deryck.. i cant spell =P
yeah2x, they are making Confusion and Frustration in modern times at first.,
Poor Cone it must be boring for him, although it sounds great so ...
But in the new album we can hear bass better so it's cool
Lol, I wouldn't go that far. I think Cone should get to write his parts though, since he plays it.
STEVO 32!!
@offspringgta I know what you. Sometimes, it can drive someone insane to be a songwrtier
I WANNA SEE STEVO 32 WITH LONG HAIR!
Mau ChilaquilZombie watch the pain for pleasure video. I guess that’s as close as you can get :)
i know its obviously good to listen and to try out other things but if you are dead set on something YOU have written by yourself then its hard to change it i guess =/

coolio

Why is Deryck jocking on Cone?
*octibe
Hmm, think dyreck was right..
Boy, his band mates look bored.
They already lost one member of the band
they are literally ripping off dammit by blink 182 at the beginning...
some guy it’s just the same chord progression. That’s not ripping off...
yea, its like he gets bass to do what he wants it to do, then he has all the time in the world to do whatever parts he wants when no one else there. its bullshit imo
this is why dave left because deruck is very selfish artisticly
