- Matt Wilson was born and raised in Greenville, SC, and attended studio arts classes at the Fine Arts Center of Greenville and Winthrop University, where he worked on an arts degree in drawing and painting. Upon moving to Charleston, SC he became interested in metal sculpture. While interviewing for a welding position, Wilson landed a unique opportunity as the resident artist at Detyens Shipyards. Wilson's primary job is to build metal models of the ships that are serviced in the shipyard, which are given to the ship owners as a "thank you” for their business. Utilizing found and recycled objects, his work has been exhibited at many venues.

This guy and Alan Williams are probably my 2 biggest inspirations! Especially once I realized hes a local around my way, blew my mind.
Reminds me of the irony in "kill two birds with one stone" as a metaphor for recycling and eating food.
Can't believe how few views this has, this guy is extremely talented. I am just getting into making found object sculpture and hope one day I can make stuff like this.
Hi, Jimmy. I appreciate the comment and love. Please help and share this with your community. Keep at it and explore everything like a kid...don't give up. That is the key. All the best.
