Hello, Ken when walking in the streets always walk from your right hand side. That way you can see oncoming traffic. Also, for Sri Lankan juices try woodapple juice and Kirala juice. Both are native fruits and very delicious. And as for hoppers I like to eat plain and egg hoppers with lunu miris. It's a spicy condiment like coconut sambal minus coconut. Also if you have any free time during the stay I would really like to invite for a day out. We can take you to bath in a river
Watching from India. The people of Sri Lanka are very kind and hospitable. I have spent a lot of time in beautiful Sri Lanka. Every minute and every day was very special and memorable
And special thanka tp kan doing great jab in you tube sri lanka tourists board doing nothing and present government has screwed up the country .Not only the present past government as well. Such a beautiful country politicians has fucked up
Try to walk on the Righthand side of the roads, whenever you are on foot. At least you can be prewarned of the oncoming crazy drivers hurling at you. Yes, that bridge that was built after the Tsunami gave away a few days ago due to neglected maintenance.
You should walk against the traffic, in Sri Lanka, on the right side of the road, so that you can see the traffic in front of you. If the traffic is behind you, you are not safe.
Hi Ken, Matara is my home town. You can go to Polhena beach. Just 5 km away from matara town. You can bath there safely. Wish you to have a wonderful journey ahead.
01:41 always walk on the side of the on coming traffic (like you did at 04:07), so that you can see the approaching vehicles and position yourself easily....
Love your videos! I was actually born in Bonn, Germany, though I'm Sri Lankan. I love how you react to everything around you. Hope you keep coming back for the rest of your life! We love having you here!
There are several hoppers available in Sri Lanka. Hoppers, Egg hopper, Honey hoppers, Jaggery Hoppers, Milk hoppers and String hoppers. All the hoppers except String hoppers are made similar way like normal hoppers but the taste is varying. String hoppers cannot eat with out any gravy or sambol, but other hoppers can be eaten without any gravy or sambol.
What a lovely beach to enjoy the cool breeze and an ice cream. Too bad that the bridge leading to the temple is destroyed/ damaged. No mango lassi as there's no electricity to use a blender to blend the drink...😀 Anyway, at least, you still can try Lassi. Haha...no healthy day for you as both the drink and ice cream are sweet... it's ok once in a while. Egg hopper is quite similar to our "appam" in Malaysia. The appam here has a sweet and coconutty flavour. Great video, thanks as always, Ken.
@@KenAbroad You Re walk ing on ythe wrong side of the road. Here pedestrians hvmi must wa1k on the roght aside of the road. Then you meed not 1ook back every time
Hi Ken…. I’m interesting your videos in Sri Lanka. Waiting to watch what’s the next video everyday since we love to see how you are enjoying our lovely country. Actually you don’t find a pavement on the sides of each roads there but I would say the pedestrians should walk on the right side of the road not the left since vehicles drive on the left side. So you are safe because you see the vehicles comes toward you. Next…. The power cut is scheduled to happen everywhere in Sri Lanka these days due to lack of rain to generate electricity and the fuel issues. So sorry about the inconvenience. Next….. the bridge to the Paravi Dúpatha( dove island) is broken few days ago. I need you to try our country’s very own fruit Divul juice( wood Apple) and also original Kiri Peni( Curd with Kithul Treakle) you can easily find those two at Matara or at Hambanthota (southern province). Pure domestic products. I’m also from down south but living abroad now. Visit Deniyaya if you can. Enjoy your tour ♥️
Hi Ken, it's sad to say whole Sri Lanka having this power cut issue. They say no fuel to power supply. People have to wait hours & hours in the queues at fuel stations even for the vehicles. Sorry even you have to suffer because of the power cut in this hot whether.
hello ken nice to see you you are doing fine in coastal areas. i had some difficulties in my personal life so i wasn't in a good mood to comment in your previous videos still i watched and liked those videos. yes ken there's a special chili based sambol to eat with hoppers. we call it as "Lunu Miris" (katta sambol) Lunu=salt Miris=chilis with some maldives fish flakes and raw onions. it is super spicy (traditionally) but very delicious with Hoppers. you can also dip in a fish or chicken curry as well. ketchup is not a good match. really enjoying your content ken glad to see you are interacting with sri lankan subscribers. be well....
A simple advice When you walk on a road in any country ensure to walk on the side where traffic is moving towards you. This ensures you can see the vehicles approaching you rather face to face rather to your rear In Sri Lanka you always walk on the right side of the road
When you habe a drone with you on this travel, then a view of the whole landscape from above should be very wonderful ....... A very interesting video-serie about Shri-Lanka. Good job, Ken ! 👍👍👍
First thing is if you walk anywhere in srilanka please follow the rule of walk your right hand side of the way for your safety. Second thing is the reason of huge powercut there is not received rain to upcountry hill side huge lakes which is made electricity by huge turbines rotating by water power. You can travel upcountry once again please visit to see and explore those dams(ex: victoria dam, kothmale dam, randenigala dam and laxapana dam and many more )
Always nice to see our "Hero" making new friends and enjoying the hospitality of Sri Lanka. I must admit that I've never seen someone "just do it" so well that they blow the Nike swoosh right off their shirt.
Best to walk in the direction of the oncoming traffic. Less risky. Off the beaten path on foot. Always a nice feeling to bump into a subscribers. Stay safe, be vigilant, take care mate.
Please walk on the Right side of the road when you are walking on a main road. Otherwise it's very dangerous. In Sri Lanka we are all supposed to walk on the Right side. Thanks.
Heading to Matara in a couple of days! I experienced some power cuts as well but fortunately they only lasted no more than 30mins. I was in Sigirya and Kandy
There a few types of hoppers. Egg hoppers eaten with sambal. Then there Paal Hoppers with sweet coconut milk poured at the centre and sweet hoppers served either with jaggery or palm sugar.
Oh gosh, it looks quite dangerous walking along that road as there isn't a pedestrian lane for pedestrians. Very helpful of that subscriber to offer you a lift on his bike. Your lucky day, Ken 😄 An awesome view from that stupa...am loving it. Thanks for that walk about and showing us random stuff that come along the way.
Believe, the entrance for the temple on the road @03:48 could have directed to the mountain part of the temple which you were looking for. The white wall starting @02:45 is a general indication that inside is a temple though it may not be always true.
Good to meet your subscriber, very kind of him to give you a lift to the beach. They don't have pavement for pedestrian to walk along the side of the road, maybe the locals use their own transport to move from one place to another, even for short distance. Lassi is delicious, tried a few times. The egg hoppers is similar to our Malaysian apam balik. In Malaysia, there are also varieties with fillings such as sweet corn, banana, peanut butter, ect.
Yes. Here in SL there are no pavements and other constructions supposed to be. The reason is the shocking, currupted politicians here. They have a big commission over a project and also keep ( steal ) a huge part of the cost that has been reserved for the particular construction. So every project here results in a terrible outcome, a considerable money (more than 3/4) in the relative politician's pocket. So its not suprising to see such poor constructions here :D
Greetings from Simmo on my lunch break in 🏴 That looked like a very interesting walk. You should always walk with the opposing traffic coming towards you where possible 😏 Again, you met amazing, friendly, helpful people. That's so good to see. Stay safe and well my friend 👍🏴🇱🇰🙏
There are other quieter roads you are on the busy main road. If you are still there check out the old Dutch fort, the little Dutch church, also the pretty university campus. And watch out for the crocodiles! (Only kidding a little). The island is called Taprobane island. There is also a big rock on the beach which is a landmark called Dondra Head.
In Malaysia we are advised to walk facing d incoming traffic so that it is easier to see d traffic coming our way ... I believe in Sri Lanka too .... O ya that lassi and d egg hopper looked delicious ....
Ken, I would eat the hopper with Lunu Mieris, a spicy, tangy type of raw onion sambol. Others may prefer Seeni Sambol, also made with onions and spices and sugar (seeni), but it is cooked. Many also add a curry as well (i.e. fish, chicken)
Here's a tips on when walking on the side of the road. Walk on the opposite side, facing the incoming traffic. That way you can be ready if there is a vehicle moving dangerously close to the side of the road. If you walk along with the direction of the traffic flow, you can't see incoming vehicle behind you.
Power cut is a scheduled one and its happening in across the country. Sri Lanka is currently running behind fuel and water that are used to generate electricity.
Normally you can eat it plain, yr one was bit too fried and normally they sprinkle salt and pepper powder on the top of the egg. You can just fold the crusty area of on to the top of the egg area and just fold it and eat holding it with yr hand and plain hoppers you can dip in any type of red curry - chicken, beef, fish or sini sambol which is made with onions, maldivefish, chilly powder - super tasty, or you can it with a plantain or with lunumiris sambol which is bit smarting. After that drink a got cup of tea.
