@@dougcargill6730 Rich people doing rich people things, with hundreds of times the environmental footprint of the average person. It looks nice, is creative, is on one of the best sites money can buy, and is outfitted in some of the most lavish furnishings anyone's ever seen. This isn't beauty, it's wealth run amok. Why do we celebrate the wealthy's ability to so rapidly destroy our planet, all so they can live a life so far beyond 'the good life'? I can assure everyone here, the money accumulated to build such a lavish retreat was generated from a lot of hard working peons who left money on the table so they wouldn't starve just so one family could accumulate so much wealth. Great Seattle family... code for "rich beyond our wildest dreams".
Part of the beauty of the design. Being 'inside the earth' will provide a basic 55 degree temp, much like a cave. Of course, the glass gives part of that effect away. But it still would be easier to heat and easier to cool than a normal house sitting up above the ground.
DPE ? Prix? faut-il déclarer construction vue qu'elle est partiellement enterrée ? Si réponse négative , cela permet de construire sur terrain non constructible, bien moins cher!
Great question! As for the current market value of The Pierre, such unique properties are rarely listed for sale publicly. You could reach out directly to the office that designed it at olsonkundig.com. But I believe that if it ever does go on sale, it will definitely be a masterpiece with an exclusive price tag! 😍
if it has an underground bunker underneath filled with provisions than kudos and would buy that for a dollar, the above ground part can be boobytrapped or blasted away to look abandoned in case shtf
It's like a madman and street sweeper designer-wanna-be teamed up to create this worthless interior design, that throws names left and right, uses good material and workmanship and results in this mess. No insult to street sweepers intended, I'm sure most of them can do much better job, with a space otherwise filled with potential, especially when the owners had a budget for real artwork
That "sink" is awful! Looks better from the outside. It is incomplete in my opinion. Concrete for a floor sounds painful. I have worked in a warehouse and concrete is a horrible floor for your feet and back.
I mean, the house is awesome!!!!! But it must have cost a fortune. Why build on top and adapt to the rock if you can force it into submission. Human big, human strong, human arrogant... before long human extinct.

Saw that silly comment, knew I had to see what this looked like inside. Stunning, it looks like it would just be another one of those awful sterile generic minimal interiors when you see the exterior. But it has so much personality and almost of reverence to the individual pieces that are placed within the home. It feels like you're actually peering into the beliefs and values of the owner. Amazing interior. It feels warm and elegant, not something you see typically these days
@@billh8173 I 100% agree with what you said here. This looks like a generational home. There is care and craftsmanship. Its not just the current thing trend. Also most minimalist design nowadays isn't done right at all. It looks like Ikea. Thought and care was placed into this.
How sad they felt it necessary to force their will onto the ancient rock, then fill the hole they created with concrete. All in all, an arrogant and grotesque creation.
Wherever I look , people have forgotten about soft and gentle, careful, tender, sensitive and similar qualities. I would like to live far far away from everything.

Beautiful and eclectic 😍
Stunning.
Beautiful home fantastic design
Beautiful!!! Would love to call this home 🏠 ❤️
It's always exciting to see what can be done when someone is not restricted to stucco and drywall.
And has millions of dollars, and doesn't care about the environmental impact
Very cool ❤
I poured the concrete foundation for a similarly designed house (on a lake) in Hubley, Nova Scotia... Embedded in the surrounding bedrock formations.
stupenda casa, incastonata nella natura
Дом красив, надеюсь, что он стоит близко от термальных источников воды и отопление ими помещений постройки в зимнее время не проблема.
Are those weep holes in the concrete wall or to regulate temperature inside based on outside?
It is a wonderful place ,I just couldn’t figure out where you stand in the bathroom sink ,marvelous view !

This house in on one of the San Juan Islands in Washington State. The owner is an heiress of a great Seattle family.
It's on Lopez Island. I was the inspector for the county building dept. It was an amazing build.

Nice. But what are the thermal effects of that rock? Is it cooler than the rest of the inside and therefore attracts moisture?
I believe they likely took special care with waterproofing 😉

In this type of circumstance, is there a higher chance of problematic radon?
They should monitor radon levels, and besides, the house is well-ventilated 😉
I love the design of the house, although some of the details are a bit over-the-top. The decorator's taste, however, is NOT mine.

The sky tube is very James Turrell
A hint of Ando and Barragon.
What's up with the traditional furnishings? Such conventional furnishings for such an unconventional and special building.
beautiful but all i can think of are the snakes
It would have even better if they had used rammed earth for the walls instead of concrete.

It’s beautiful but so cold and claustrophobic to me. So much metal art inside this little fortress!
to be honest :
after four minutes I had
enough of it . . . .
Outside fire..complete waste of time. Great location and......... yeah..great location. Ok. Nice windows for that great view.
Obviously you have never roasted marshmallows on an open fire
I think the outdoor fireplace is a wonderful idea, glass of wine under the stars without freezing…fire is romantic inside and out,in my opinion !

Ruined by the interior design. It doesn‘t go with the house design. But that‘s just my opinion, maybe the owner likes it like that.
Trying too hard to be an art piece.
succeeded
I was searching for the words and you found them. Trying too hard. That’s it!
So etwas schrecklich disharmonisch schreckliches kann nur ein seltsamer Architekt planen
Way too cluttered and pretentious looking inside sadly.
Look forward to seeing yours
